Sorry, if I've missed this on the main thread, but with respect to the new multiport on the new MacAirs, it seems as if one can get a splitter so you can use external appliances while you are charging...maybe?

And, with all this talk about thinness, I haven't yet seen anything about weight. If the 12 inch is similar in weight to the 11 in non-Retina version, I might be more inclined to go for the latter; for portability, weight matters more to me, I have to say. I realize that makes me NO FUN AT ALL during new product day!

It weighs 2 pounds so is lighter then the 11" Air.

They couldn't be bothered with improving the 15" battery life or giving it the new haptic trackpad?????

Why update the 15" MBP's to only update it again a few months down the line when quad core Broadwells are available? Makes no sense.

What are people's thoughts regarding the 13" MBPr spec bump? Will there be another bump coming later this year, or is this it? I'm particularly surprised that 128 GB is the standard SSD and not 256.

I'd like to upgrade soon, as I'm using a late 2008 MB (aluminum), but I want to make sure I'm getting both the latest technology and most bang for my buck.

Thank you, Olly. Now for a side-by-side comparison, when it comes in to my local store. That will help with final decision-making, though I'm currently edging toward the 11" - the port issue is more annoying than I thought it would be. I still don't live an entirely wireless life.

Too bad I just bought a new retina macbook pro eight days ago. Kind of glad I didn't get the force touch trackpad though. Sounded kind of weird to me.

Return it and try out the Force Touch Trackpad. Spec bumps and 1 more hour of battery is worth a trip.

Presently surprised

I did not think Apple would include anything other than Apple Watch in this mornings event. Nice to see they remembered the rest of us who don't have cash for a $349+ wrist tricket.

Single Port

Charging and USB all in one is nice but seems like it would get annoying quick. I do a lot with my Macbook while my phone, etc. is plugged in.

I did read the thread. Did I say anything about processors? NO.

They point is that battery life improvements come, in large part, from new CPUs. New CPUs don't exist yet.

Why update the iMac to add an iSight only to switch its entire CPU architecture three months later?

For ****s sake, Shiller, you rotund shirt tucker. You had one job. ONE GOD DAMNED JOB. Put a retina display in the existing MacBook Airs. That's all you had to do. Instead, you managed to do everything else but that.

Why do I want a Macbook with weird port connectivity that is somehow underpowered vs my current 2013 Macbook Air? Why do I want do give myself a CPU and speed bump on my current Macbook Air when every other device you put out at that size has retina? What the hell is your problem?! Aaaaaaarrrggghhhhh

No 15" update.......the smell of death.

Didn't they update the 15" when they did not update the 13"? No one smells death, or death doesn't smell like you think it smells. Either or.

The only "complaint" on the 13" Retina MBP is I think space grey would have been cool. The lack of ability for the MacBook to use an external monitor is a no-go for me. The 13" remains my favorite year after year.

My 2011 15" MBP will live another day.

From my mouth to Cook's ears, please oh please give me a retina matte screen on a 15" MBP. :)

...

Advice, please...

I've been ready to pull the trigger on a decked out 15" and was waiting for this day with hopes that there would be some kind of upgrade, knowing that the processors aren't ready.

So, for those of you who are more used to this kind of dilemma than I am, would you...

1.) Take the gamble waiting for a new 15" version, knowing that it might not even happen at all this year... the processors are supposed to be ready by end of July, but nobody knows for sure.

2.) Get one of the new 13" versions, fully decked out and save myself a few hundred bucks.

3.) Just buy a fully decked out 15" that is available now and forget today ever happened.

Any advice would be fantastic... thanks!

RIP 15" rMBP. If Apple actually updates the 15", I don't expect discrete graphics to be an option since they are ALL OVER miniaturization....

But I do get that there are no quad-core Broadwell chips for the 15" yet. Still, I feel like Apple's very slowly leaving their pro lineup (starting with the 17") for dead.

Little much "Death of the 15" MBP", eh? The 17" were retired due to poor sales.
:apple: makes what sells, nothing more, nothing less;)
