Out of interest what does that do ? turn off FontSmoothing or such ?

It changes the degree of font smoothing, the higher the number, generally the easier it is to read. But it also gets thicker, can be pretty ugly at 3 and 4.

2 is generally assumed to be the ideal setting for flat panels.

Well, We will see what happens when my amazon order comes in.

It will be number 3 - I had samsung ssd in the first two.. samsung display then lg display...

I just know the penalty for being indecisive will be the unreturnable LG Toshiba combo.

However, it's also a bridge machine and under a grand.. so I'm fine with it.

3 11 inchers from amazon here and all 3 came with LG panels.

Seriously, it's not a big deal. If nobody said something, nobody would have noticed. It was like back in the day when the HDDVD vs BLU RAY... and look which won, streaming, lol

I think the LG panel is better than the Samsung.

I compared an 11" LG with a 13" Samsung and the LG was definitely brighter and seemed sharper to me.

anyone else with experiences on both? is crosstalk noticeable in everyday use? browsing? movie viewing etc?

I have flashing / crosstalk like crazy on my 2010 and 2011 MBAs. I've never noticed it until these threads came up with the test links. It is a non-issue.

I experienced flickering of backgrounds while browsing. Googled, found this thread and it verified the issue (crosstalk). Given I was unhappy already with the poor vertical viewing angles this was the final nail in the coffin.

Just got my air 2 days ago and immediately noticed something odd with the screen -- I got dizzy after using it a bit -- seems to be somekind of subtle flickering going on. Tested with the crosstalks test and got the usual #1 and #2 failure. Yeah, I got the LG monitor.

Then today I noticed that weird ghosting effects on the screen when I move my window around. Was very pissed and called Apple support. After following through their dance to check that and this I gave up and straight up told them to come and get it back.

The support guy told me frankly that I have 2 options. First is to bring it down to their nearby service center for checkup and if confirm defective unit, they will give me a refurbished unit. That's right, refurbished unit. WTF!

Second option is to wait for new replacement unit but will arrive between 2-3 weeks time. Seriously.

Call again, be polite (not saying that you were not, just a piece of advice), tell your problem, ask for a replacement. Since you are in the 14 days return period you should be able to return it and get a new one. 2-3 weeks sounds odd, so maybe another support person will be more helpful.

Well yeah I wasn't really polite but not rude. Anyway, the support guy really got my pissed off when he suggest I reinstall Lion. I mean, reinstall Lion?!! For a moment I thought I am dealing with Windows 98 all over again.

Anyway, called and confirmed the 2-3 weeks wait time. Average turn around is 2 weeks but may go up to 3 weeks max. It's ok, I am not in a hurry, I still have my MBP.

Your screen really seems to be faulty so returning it is the only solution.
Waiting for two weeks is better than getting a refurbished model.

I have a LG panel, and I stumbled upon a website that causes flickering on the display. The header image of that website is green and causes a headache.

I made a copy of it arrayed for maximum flickering

I viewed this image on a couple of other LCD monitors and saw no flickering whatsoever, so I think it's a problem with the LG panel. I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow to see what they can do about it.

I have absolutely no idea what this means for me, but it flickers on my screen and I have an 11" LG screen.

Otherwise, it seems like a good screen to me.

I have an iMac and certain websites would cause a bit of flickering while scrolling as well.

I thought it was just normal.

For everyone with the LG screen - does it just fail on #2 of the crosstalk test?

I just got a 13" LG panel and it fails on the first 3 - quite spectacularly actually.

Has anyone tried http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.php - ? How much flickering do you see?

13" LG here. They are all flickering when scrolling but only 3 is flickering constantly, the others don't flicker when standing still.

From the release notes of Lion 10.7.1, which just came out today:

"Resolve an issue causing intermittent display flickering on Macbook Air"

Has anyone with an LG display happened to check if this improves anything? It's possible they managed to do a software fix for this issue.

Quick test to see if it's been fixed:

No, didn't change anything to that flickering...

So I went back with my new MBA to Apple today. Showed them the green test and they were shocked at how bad it looked. They pulled out a new one, I fired her up and it had the same problem. I decided to go with a MBP instead and frankly the display looks much better to me. A LOT easier to read small text etc...

Thanks to everyone on the board.

PS - Naturally the guys at the Genius bar claimed they had not had one complaint about the MBA displays....which I find a little hard to believe.

I've had both screens. Who give a sh** about whether either one flickers on a single carefully developed screen pattern on a single site. This is not a common issue at all - it is only an issue for the typical Apple OCD crowd.

I have the LG screen and didn't even notice that something was "wrong" with it until reading the forums and this post in particular. My screen flickers slightly when scrolling down that green image. I am now on my iMac and it did not flicker once. Not sure if that is a big deal or not but my macbook is still perfect in my eyes. The screen looks crisp and flawless. I think we should all stop worrying and just enjoy our products for once.

+1

Completely agree. Unfortunately, OCD rules on this forum (myself included ;-). It is a shame - you almost have to avoid macrumors to enjoy your new mac.

Much as I try to avoid macrumors, I just keep coming back!! My OCD with keeping up to date on forum threads is feeding my MBA OCD!!! HELP!!!!:eek::eek::apple:
