There is an amazing amount of ill-informed supposition going on in this thread.

First off, you all should REALLY read the reviews of sandybridge done by Anandtech, in which they go into extreme detail regarding how the GPU on the same die as the CPU results in incredible performance advantages. In the area of gaming, the advantages begin to level out so that a sandybridge CPU/GPU performs similar to a 13 inch MBP, but the OTHER areas that take advantage of Intel's Quick Sync Transcoding (aka decoding/encoding) tech result in something like a quadrupling of speed over the MBP for video editing work (with more accurate results over CUDA transcoding), along with dramatically increased speed in 3D rendering and general computing. And this is all using a processor that takes less energy than the MBP and has incredible abilities at lasting on batteries.

Here are the links. The first shows the performance of the mobile CPU against other mobile platforms. The second explains Quick Sync, along with other awesome tech including in Sandybridge.

That totally sucks for those of us who took the initial leap.
Apple has a lot on their plate right now, seems unlikely to come out 6 months after the initial release of the product.

MacRumors is usually is on the cutting edge of hear say and innuendo, so I'm not going to get to upset at this point.

I wouldn't worry about it. You still have a great machine. Besides, there was no way to tell a refresh would be so soon (if rumors are true). I would have bought the MBA in October but I had just purchased a 13" MBP 3 months before the MBA launch. There was no way I could have endured another 3 months with my VAIO laptop. I can't stand PC's now that I switched to Mac. Now I need to get some use out of my MBP before I can justify the loss selling it so soon.

What for? 2GB are good enough, 4GB is better but 8GB is a waste of money. Seriously.

You obviously don't use RAM intensive applications. Trust me I have maxed out my 16GM RAM Mac Pro before. So 8GB is nothing. Seriously.

Sorry did you say Pro? Because I thought we were talking of the Air. Are you using Final Cut Pro on the Air?

It was to demonstrate that maxing out a machine with 8GB is easy if you run memory intensive apps.

Air vs MBP vs MP, makes no difference. I run graphics and image apps which suck RAM like a Audi R8 sucks up the autobahn with foot to the floor

June! I think June is too late. I would expect the air to get the new processor sooner rather than later as should the mini as core 2s have been tucked away in those things for far too long. On that note the ipad should be getting more memory and a faster processer soon to, all things it should have had from the start. Which is as good reason as any for not buying the current specced model pads and airs until they're upgraded. My 5 cents (cos we don't have 2 cents anymore).

While I wouldn't be surprised, it's quite a nasty way to screw their early adopters. There has become a trend of increasingly acerbic treatment of Apples loyal customers. Which in retrospect is actually not a problem. The fanboys don't mind getting slapped around, lord Steve can do whatever he wants with no consequences.

Guess the MBA will get Thunderbolt, and 8GB upgrade option possibly - that would rock! :D

Hello? Where have you been the last 3 decade's? -- S Jobs, is mac-God. What he says goes.  worshippers bend over, time after time. 's profits are testimony to this.

Not bad, I expect larger SSDs and faster processors, like i3 @ 2GHz

a 11" with
128GB SSD
i3 @ 2GHz or better
4GB RAM
SD card slot

priced @ ~1000-1100 EUR would make the deal. I'd definitely expect faster processors & larger storage in the update. 4GB RAM may be a BTO.

Any updates on when the new 11" air comes out?

I am in the market for the 11" Air but want backlit keyboard.

Anyone have updated info on when these will be released?

Thanks

New MBA? Wanna scren or no DVD drive in MBA 15...

We can all dream....

But I want the lightness of the MBA with the sturdiness of the screen of the 15 and 17 MBP

Why don't they just chuck out the superdrive on the MBP - I can't even remember the last time I used it.....

MBA with a 15" screen, 8GB ram option, and a bigger SSD - I'd cough up hard cash (and some blood) for that....

selling my 2007 MBP 15" and ordered a 27" BTO iMac
now I don't have a laptop anymore, so this can be my next laptop.

Good question. It seemed to me that they went and replaced the backlit keyboard with the audio speaker enhancements. Who knows? Maybe they'll compromise this time. I do have to admit, the current MBA has incredible built-in audio. In fact, by far, the best stereo spacial audio I've ever heard out of any laptop speakers, and you don't even see them.

Though I do still wonder why give such audio to the main laptops people would least use for built-in audio. You'd figure the main Air-specific audience would generally be traveling in such way that they'd prefer to be courteous and use headphones, mostly. I'd figure light above speaker quality, but maybe that's just me.

(I think someone in the hardware team, must've wanted to sneak-in stuff to turn the MBA into a minor gaming machine, that time. Hey, let's slip in that, better than average, laptop videocard into a ultra-portable and some kick butt speakers in the thing. They wont know what hit them. And by the time the smoke clears, I'll be playing Portal 2 full speed on this little rig. Uh oh, someone's coming. *Ahem* We really were just going for something that could be real snappy when running the OS. That's what we're shooting for.)

Good. Get away from those Core 2 Duos. Completely ridiculous using those chips and charging that price.

They are fantastic chips?

Agreed dated but the performance is optimal.

Don't blame Apple, blame their supplier, Intel.
