If you are looking for cases, I would personally recommend Alex from Picasolab. http://www.ebay.com/sch/picasolab/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 I got his case for my macbook air and its truly very beautiful and I definitely treasure my case :). It is well constructed and definitely keeps my macbook air safe. I plan to get one for my wife soon too.

If budget is a concern, I would recommend the the Vatuka cases from ebay; as that was the other case I was looking at. Those look nice as well.

sl33py, Thanks much for sharing your recommendations. I like the picasolab, especially after read and watching info on it. Unsure which color to choose.

Is the mac air fully enclosed in the full size models? It pretty much looks so.

The Vatuka case also looks nice, Like the full zipper enclosure.

Leaning towards the picasolab one for now.

lol, lots and lots of reccomendations!
Well I finally decided to buy the second one,
the leather sleeve. I really like the slim look of it.

just have to ask the posters that said 'naked' - how are you calm with that? i mean, i know to maintain my expensive gadgets very well, yet i just cant imagine letting this beautiful aluminium unibody be exposed to scratching. maybe im just a paranoid 8)

I use all my Apple products naked at home. I love to touch them. When I take one out I always use a case.

I like leather... mainly due to the fact it has some qualities of preventing some initial moisture from getting in. Also, the padding is perfect, sleek but still provides safety.

Like the look too. These are the only cases/sleeves I buy for the past 4yrs...

It's an int'l order though from US...

I'm looking for the most minimalistic sleeve out there. It shouldn't add much weight or space to the MBA 13" and it should be a slim and light material with pretty much a "skinny" fit. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Hey Onno how is that case holding up?
My leather one is somewhat similar but
its a bit of a more thicker leather.
How is the wear and tear on it?

I went with the stm grip hardshell case for my mac air

http://www.amazon.com/STM-Hardshell-Minimalist-13-Inch-122-010M-01/dp/B008RJU1QE

It has microsuede lining on the inside, so its not like the plastic is touching the mac air directly for the bottom and lid. This was the main reason why I bought it. I did not want plastic brushing against my mac air directly since a previous cell phone of mine was scratched badly from the dust that got in.

The outside is not flat/smooth, but grooved. You can look at the picture more closely to see what I mean. I personally like the feel of it.

Three cons on the top of my head are that 1) it can be difficult to take off the case since the plastic sides that clip onto the mac are very tight 2) this isnt a con to me, but it covers the apple light on the lid. I actually like that since ppl wont really know that I am using a mac from looking at the back side. And lastly 3) the case piece for the lid can be heavy enough to make the mac either open up or close depending on the angle. If you open the lid too much, but before it reaches max angle, the lid may fall back to the max angle. If you have the mac air at like an angle smaller than 30 degrees, the mac air will close itself.

It's very good! My wife has one too, she bought it a couple of years ago and mine looks almost the same :)

Cheap copies?

Hey guys,

Just joined. Bought a bran new MBA 13. I'm speechless. What a machine! Been with PCs over 20 years, good god, why I waited that long to taste a Mac? Wow!

I'm one of the many still asking myself if I should buy a skin/case or not. Specks is real nice but also does seem to have so-so reviews about cracking and all. I don't mind buying a 50$ if it lasts. Hard to know also if people placed their computer during several hours under a Florida-Sun fully shiny day.

In the other end, protective cases are not rocket science too. So..... I looked for ... (Hope I will not be flamed), cheap copies

Amazon

This one looks damn 99% identical to Specks. Only issue is that it does not fit 2013 models. Again, no rocket science here too, what about drilling a hole for the 2nd mic? I mean, come on, not that so big a deal right? We are talking about 10$, shipping included.

So, am I the only one looking for cheap version? I feel like the guy buying a Kraft dinner at the store... anyway.

Any1 with such experiences?

Hey, congratulations on your new MacBook Air. Like you, I switched from PC's (15 years), and this is the best computer I've used.

Have you tried the Kuzy case? It fits the 2013 MacBook Air, and is about CDN$ 30 on Amazon. I have been using it, and it works very nicely, and also makes the MacBook look very sleek.

I'm probably gonna go with a Joli textured sleeve!

So glad you posted that link! I fell in love with the look, and just ordered one for my new MBA and then went back and ordered one for my iPad mini. Very excited to get them both.

Ain't it grand? I wasted 20+ years with windows, and finally made the jump to Macs in December with an iMac - that one and now my new Air are just amazing to me. I'm trying very hard not to be a fangirl, but these computers and the OS are such a dream to use.

I can advice the ones from Joli originals (http://jolioriginals.com) I received mine about two weeks ago, it's light, slim and awesome.

I posted some pictures here last week: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=17651201#post17651201

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I love cruising these threads - I've found great products I would have never known existed.

I had a hard time deciding, but went with the textured black with aqua for both. I'll put up some pictures when they get here :)

Brown and Orange for me, that was available only textured that I preferred anyways. They said they did it yesterday (!!), and will ship it today! Yay :D

Same here and tracking shows for delivery tomorrow - I'm impressed with their great customer service and quick shipping!

I almost went for the brown, but I really wanted that aqua lining, so chose the black one instead :)

Hey can anyone send me a link
to a post about sleeve etc reviews?
I haven't found something like that in Macrumors

We adore the TwelveSouth BookBook for our laptops. Incredible quality.

I'm a fan of these, too.

My old MBA used to simply travel in my briefcase, sometimes in a padded A4 envelope, - and survived unscathed.

However, for some time, I had been keeping an eye out for a good quality, elegant, leather case.

Thus, more recently, I have bought a few cases from the Twelve South company, their BookBook products (which were recommended on this very forum).

The BookBook sleeves are designed to look like a somewhat battered, old style leather covered book, and are actually made of leather. They look terrific, and offer excellent protection. I got one for my iPad mini, and have been very impressed by it, and so, have bought others as well, for my MBA.
