Macworld.com.au claims that Apple's MacBook Air could see updates as early as this week. They cite a "well-placed source" who identifies the new product number as MC516LL/A K87 BETTER BTR-USA. This source was previously able to pinpoint the recent MacBook Pro updates a week prior to their release.

It seems it's not entirely certain that the product number necessarily represents a new MacBook Air. Macworld Australia speculates it could also represent a new Apple LCD. Either way, several thousand of these items are presently on their way to Australia which indicates a major product launch.

According to our Buyer's Guide, a revised MacBook Air is overdue for release. It was last updated in June 2009 and was not updated alongside the MacBooks and MacBook Pros last month.

This product has really got a battle on it's hands but I think it's important that Apple seek to keep it up to spec.

They will probably remove the trackpad button too, it's the only Apple laptop still to ship with a physical button below the trackpad.

Yawn. Who buys Airs other than pretentious people who think it looks good? Why would anyone spend more money for less power, less functionality and thickness that is 80% of the MacBook Pro at its thickest point, which is the critical benchmark.

Apple should yank the optical drive from the MacBook Pro 13, add another hard drive (large mechanical + smaller SSD is the way to go) and make it a bit thinner with an i5 or i7 and a bigger fan. Now I would pay a premium for that.

bring it on!! 4GB RAM and slightly more battery life due to more efficient CPU!

Sorry to disappoint, but you'll get another C2D and 4 GB of RAM, and probably a 160 GB SSD, and glass trackpad.

Hmm, imo the MBA now seems to be in an odd place. It doesn't have as much I/O nor as powerful as a regular Macbook, yet is a lot more expensive than an iPad. The least Apple should do is put an SD card slot somewhere. The lone USB port is not good enough for a laptop, plus the fact the space is very tight. Also, use the same headphone/mic combo jack that supports the iPhone earbud with remote. 128GB SSD should be the standard by now in addition to 4GB RAM. I don't think Apple can do much on the processor.

The MacBook Air does everything I need a computer to do. I don't need the power of a MacBook Pro, and I will gladly pay extra for the extreme portability of the MacBook Air that is beautiful and the perfect portable Mac.

I hope I can give Apple about $3K this week for a fully loaded BTO MacBook Air.

I would be happy with this. Obviously most us will expect more, but this should be the bare minimum for an update.

If this product number represents new ACDs I hope for two things: ACDs that aren't only glossy and an update to the Mac Pro. I think if they were going to update the Air why didn't they do it the day the MBPs were updated?

Don't see how they would be able to put a Core i3 or better in the refreshed MBA's... the 13" MBP's didnt get it due to space right?

Either way, good to see that the MBA's aren't getting discontinued (for now!) after the iPad launch.

It's time for an update. It's been 336 days since update and my first gen MBA is getting old.

RAM upgrade to 4 GB is the most needed feature, also the power consumption should be tweaked down as more battery life is needed.

i think this will be the deciding factor as whether or not to get a MBP or MBA update, i only ask Stevie for a few things ;)

- Intel Core i7 @ 2.53GHZ
- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- nVidia 330M with 512MB DDR3 VRAM
- 500GB 7200RPM HDD or 512 SSD
- 3 USB Ports, MiniDisplay Port, Headphone Jack (Standard 3.5)
- Über-Thin Glass Screen
- Glass Trackpad
- Liquid Cooling System

Am i asking for too much? :p ;) if Stevie did do this i would quite happily chuck £3000 his way for one of these beasts, although, thinking about it, has anyone thought about the possibility of a 15" MBA? As months ago, there were rumours about one surfacing :O :D or does it say somewhere in the model number that it is definitely a 13" device?
