If its a macbook air with 4 gigs of ram, its most likely mine.

If its apple 27 inch cinema displays, two of them are most likely mine :D

Don't see how they would be able to put a Core i3 or better in the refreshed MBA's... the 13" MBP's didnt get it due to space right?

Either way, good to see that the MBA's aren't getting discontinued (for now!) after the iPad launch.

the only way i can see that if that is because the Air is a considered a more superior product than the 13" MB(not really a pro). This is how things were the the Air first came out. I miss those days. Well, it will command a price hike of course....Still, IMO i don't think that it will get the i3.
Very exciting, very exciting!:D

ok, the MacBook Air will never be use as a regular laptop as I use my Macbook Pro, So, it please put all the components of my iPad inside that machine, drop the price to $700 for the entry model, and I will buy 5 of them. As it is it will never be a great option. Do the math and you will get an iPad with OS X and a Keyboard WAAAAAYYY OVER priced. :D

The MacBook Air does everything I need a computer to do. I don't need the power of a MacBook Pro, and I will gladly pay extra for the extreme portability of the MacBook Air that is beautiful and the perfect portable Mac.

I hope I can give Apple about $3K this week for a fully loaded BTO MacBook Air.

How does it have extreme portability when it has the same footprint as the 13" MacBook Pro and 80% of its thickness? It is somewhat lighter though.

If you had ever used one then you would understand. It is much easier to pick and carry around than those specs imply

Not convinced Intel has a viable processor for AIR.

An update is due of course so it is likely to be more modest than some would like. For me though the whole concept needs to be refactored into something mote acceptable. So I'm actually hoping for new displays as I might be interested there.

i think this will be the deciding factor as whether or not to get a MBP or MBA update, i only ask Stevie for a few things ;)

- Intel Core i7 @ 2.53GHZ
- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- nVidia 330M with 512MB DDR3 VRAM
- 500GB 7200RPM HDD or 512 SSD
- 3 USB Ports, MiniDisplay Port, Headphone Jack (Standard 3.5)
- Über-Thin Glass Screen
- Glass Trackpad
- Liquid Cooling System

Am i asking for too much? :p ;) if Stevie did do this i would quite happily chuck £3000 his way for one of these beasts, although, thinking about it, has anyone thought about the possibility of a 15" MBA? As months ago, there were rumours about one surfacing :O :D or does it say somewhere in the model number that it is definitely a 13" device?

If you expect those specs, I predict you will not be happy.

Yawn. Who buys Airs other than pretentious people who think it looks good? Why would anyone spend more money for less power, less functionality and thickness that is 80% of the MacBook Pro at its thickest point, which is the critical benchmark.

Apple should yank the optical drive from the MacBook Pro 13, add another hard drive (large mechanical + smaller SSD is the way to go) and make it a bit thinner with an i5 or i7 and a bigger fan. Now I would pay a premium for that.

Not really going to be able to fit an i5/i7 and a bigger battery in there though, are you?

And in all respect, one can happily argue that spec-to-spec, people who buy macs are spending more money for less power (not taking the OS into account, of course).

If they made the Air into a 12" laptop (anything smaller than 13") and kept the same screen resolution and full size keyboard they'd have a winner. It would be bigger and more useful than a netbook but more portable and more distinct from the 13" MBP/MB line.

True. Just remembered that the MBA doesnt have an internal superdrive so that could possibly give them the upper hand in terms of space.

Guess we'll find out in the next few hours :D

Lets just hope this is a worthwhile update.
72

If its as worthwhile as their MB (Pro) 'update' (chuckle)then we are all gonna be very disappointed yet again as Apple fail to put any pro spec into anything these days.
Ah well alls news that makes news!

But I think according to Apple, anything under "12 is now Netbook territory and I do somewhat remember Mr. Jobs being proud of the MBA scren size at 13" at the intro keynote.

I don't know I'll have to watch it again myself.

Please keep it as it is and upgrade RAM to 4GB and I will keep on buying dozens of them (for the university) every year, just like I'm doing now.

lol :) i know not to expect anything even close to that, except perhaps the 4GB DDR3 RAM, i was just imagining what it would be like if Apple laptops had the same Hardware specs as the Sony Vaio Z to be honest it kind of got me excited then really disappointed as i know it's never going to happen :( still it could be a 15" MBA :D

Hmm, imo the MBA now seems to be in an odd place. It doesn't have as much I/O nor as powerful as a regular Macbook, yet is a lot more expensive than an iPad. The least Apple should do is put an SD card slot somewhere. The lone USB port is not good enough for a laptop, plus the fact the space is very tight. Also, use the same headphone/mic combo jack that supports the iPhone earbud with remote. 128GB SSD should be the standard by now in addition to 4GB RAM. I don't think Apple can do much on the processor.

your right about the I/O. You know actually, if Apple were ever able to squeeze at least one more USB port in there, I would trade up my 13" MBP in a heartbeat. My work demands 2 USB devices and I don't like the idea of carrying around USB hubs.

I remember my former boss bought one on launch day. He put it in a paper envelope (just like the ad) and took it to a meeting with a client to show off. What a Douche!

While I doubt that this question should be dignified by an answer, surely the reason for the Air is its weight, or lack of it. If you don't need the power of a MacBook Pro then why bunk around the extra weight. Surely that would be the most pretentious thing.

Doesn't exist. i7 only comes in 2.66 GHz. You're thinking i5.

- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- nVidia 330M with 512MB DDR3 VRAM

HAHAHA!!! Very funny.

- 500GB 7200RPM HDD or 512 SSD

Liquid cooling... In a Macbook Air... Genius! This is how I know you're joking.

Am i asking for too much? :p ;)

Although this helped.

The funniest thing is that SOMEWHERE... out there... SOMEONE is really hoping, and expecting something similar to this.

EDIT: I hate the Macbook Air, and want it to die. I believe it to be a worthless piece of underpowered, overpriced junk targeted at Arts students. This news does not please me.

Blast!

I've been holding out for a replacement laptop but when the Air wasn't updated with the new MacBook Pro's I broke down and got one of them instead. Oh well, guess I saved a bit of cash in the long run. Well I hope those still waiting get a worthy update.

Out of curiosity ...

How many of the Air haters have actually used one? My Rev A/64GB SSD has been an excellent and highly portable work-horse for the last two years, well worth the premium I paid for it at the time - and we'll get another couple of years out of it. The thinness and weight makes it considerably more portable than my previous 12" Powerbook in pretty much every scenario, and pretty competitive for portability with the netbooks I'm acquainted with, without sacrificing as much function.

Sure, you don't want to run Aperture or Xcode on it (but you can, if you're not in a rush), but for most stuff it's a very competent second machine.

Yup, you're an idiot. There's nothing wrong with the new Macbook Pros, they are fantastic. Unless you're talking about the 13" MBPs (which I care about only slightly more than the MBA) in which case you are correct.

And in all respect, one can happily argue that spec-to-spec, people who buy macs are spending more money for less power (not taking the OS into account, of course).

Disagree. In my opinion, the MBPs are so fantastic not because of the operating system (which is a win by itself, but shall be ignored for the time being) but because they are fantastically well rounded. They have fantastic CPUs (ignoring the Core 2's of course), pretty good GPUs, lots of storage, a sufficient number of ports, fantastic battery life, and still manage to be unbelievably sexy, while not being overly expensive. I am unaware of any computer that can beat a MBP in speed, weight/size, battery life and price.

While I doubt that this question should be dignified by an answer, surely the reason for the Air is its weight, or lack of it. If you don't need the power of a MacBook Pro then why bunk around the extra weight. Surely that would be the most pretentious thing.

So what's wrong with a Macbook? Or a 13" Macbook Pro?
