If it doesn't come with IPS retina display, I'll buy an older model with that discounted price when a new model is launched.

I'm just waiting for the day when we can all afford a 512GB non-spinny disk!

I can sell you one for $10. Used to be a spinning disk but it doesn't work anymore. :(

How could they possibly offer 500+ GB SSD's in the new Air's and keep similar price points (never mind cheap RAM)? OWC wants $759.99 for a 480 3G blade replacement. I'd love to upgrade my 2010 128GB Air with that bad boy but have a hard time justifying the expense. Maybe that's why I'm typing this on my MBP

Apple bought a company whose business it is to get more capacity out of equivalent SSD hardware. Or they made a deal with a manufacturer where they invest tons of money and buy tons of flash drives really cheap. Or both.

why does everyone call flash storage SSD? I thought there was quite a big difference here?

SSD = Solid State Drive. In principle, any persistent storage device without moving parts is an SSD. Flash storage is one technology to build SSDs. In five years time, there might be some completely different technology in use, but as long as there are no moving parts, it is still an SSD. In the 80's, you could buy Megabyte SSDs built using bubble memory.

Any guesses as to what the expected battery life will be on the new models?

I'm REALLY hoping the rumor of 512GB SSD in the 13" is true. FINALLY some decent storage in an Air. I know many would be glad to utilize this. My iTunes library alone is around 150GB. Add to that pictures, videos, and apps, and that eats up quite a bit - easily consuming most of a 256GB.

Just over 2hrs until we find out if this is real or not!

Thats an expensive itunes library on SSD.

Good to see 4GB RAM as standard. Still disappointed to see 64GB SSD in the base-model, the $1000 machine should at least have 128GB storage.

IMO its time for 8GB standard. The cost difference is negligible...but it wont happen :(

SSD prices have actually plumitted hugely over the last 60 days. You can pick up a 256GB SSD in the UK for around £130 now (approx. $200 USD). 2 months ago it would have cost around £250. The 512GB ones are taking a little longer to drop, but give it another 3 months and we'll have them at around £180.

If there's no upgrade to the display I may seriously consider an asus zenbook.

If it wasnt for the OSX, I would be all over the Asus Zenbook *IF* there's no upgrade to the display. Unfortunately, there's no way I'll go back to Windows after having gotten used to OSX.

I just wish the ram was user upgradable, it's just so ridiculous paying "Apple tax" on stuff (Ram/SSD) that 3rd party options outperform for cheaper. I can just imagine what the Apple tax will be for their 512GB SSD

Anything about a larger battery/longer battery life?

At least be happy that 4GB is now standard across all models:rolleyes:

My wife is perfectly happy with her 11.6/64GB Air. Not everyone needs that much space especially with 'cloud' becoming very much the norm.

I'm going down to a 128GB this cycle. My 256GB is practically empty.

My point was that 64GB storage is very less for a machine that costs $1000.

Dropped the ball on the tower

Wow, the laptops are big improvement but they totally dropped the ball on the Mac Pro, WTF.
