For handbrake, do you just use a USB DVD drive or just using another drive over your network?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just got ours a couple days ago. It's mostly for my fiance. She wants to start writing stories and likes using a laptop more than a desktop. I want to start learning to code iOS apps and I like to play Starcraft 2 (even if the settings are set to low).

Network.

funny scary story, I have never NEVER had my macbook air freeze any of them, right now as I was reading this thread and clicked on the guys attached picture it completely froze and I had to hold the power button and restart lol

Anyhow, I use it for Windows in VMWare for car dealership paperwork software, Internet use, pictures, email, imessage, skype, facetime and really thats about it. Pretty good job. I love my air my so much I try to get everyone to have one lol

I was using mine as an email surfing machine backup to my Retina MacBook pro. Now that the Macbook Pro has had to be shipped out for repairs I am using the base air all the time while I wait for the return of the pro. The Air is such a nice machine. :)

I use my macbook air for browsing. school work, regular work, and just to bring with me on vacations and such..

for "fun" stuff and as a music-player i have a home-built windows desktop. its aimed at high end gaming. surround speakers and big monitor ect.

I dont have word or any other "work"-related program installed on it though. thats all on my mac :)

Lounging around on the couch right now, browsing the web, checking my email, while watching a movie on TV in the living room. This tiny machine is great for that, nice and light.

I bring it with me when I fly, or whenever I go over to my siblings place. It's really a great get up and go device. Ultraportable. Love my Sena folio case, it's the perfect match.

Aperture, Diablo 3 every now and then, downloading, watching anime, encoding and decoding movies, blogging, word documents, excel spreadsheets, power point presentations, outlook (yes all of ms office), print server (when docked at home to the thunderbolt display), salesforce.com, managing a sales team through california, etc.

I actually interchange between my Air and my Mini at home. The Air is the more powerful machine so if I need to do some heavy duty stuff such as encoding or decoding, I use the Air. If I'm leavin the house and need a computer on for a large download and to have the print server running, I switch to the Air. Or if it's a week or two that I go on a long trip I also take the Air.

I sometimes interchange between an iPad LTE and the Air as well. Most of my day to day tasks when I'm on the go can be done with my iPad LTE with the logitech ultrathin keyboard since I mainly need access to SalesForce, reviewing documents and spreadsheets, and sending emails. I am actually considering selling the 2012 Air 11" i7 since I will be upgrading to an SSD drive and 16GB RAM on the Mini. And if I need to access my computer from home, Splashtop running on the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the iPad work great. It just sucks when you sometimes run into rare situations when you wish you had a laptop when you're out and about to do a complex task such as PhotoShop or putting together a large presentation from scratch!

Mine is an iPad replacement. I just replaced my iPad 4G 64 with a 64 GB 11" MBA.

Why? I really just surf and socialize online with it, and the virtual KB was just too frustrating to use.

The 2012 MacBook Air could very well be "The Best Laptop" currently out. :) Apple certainly doesn't have much competition. Both the Asus ZenBook and HP Folio Ultra Book SUCK, and don't have anything on the MacBook Air.

11" 2011 MBA at home for work and for queuing up video conversions on.

11" 2012 MBA in my bag for whatever life throws my way.

I had an early 2011 MBP 13", but I got over carting it around everywhere.

It's my main home computer now. Use it for listening to music, browsing the web, and most of all, work which includes lots of Google Adwords Editor/Chrome/Safari. I am very happy so far with my purchase. This is my first mac.

Desktop replacement. My Air is my main computer so I have to use it for everything. I have two external hard drives and I'm using Bootcamp for some Windows-only programs. Short list:

-Photo editing in iPhoto and GIMP
-Editing HD video in Sony Vegas on Bootcamp
-Playing Flight Sim X (also Bootcamp)
-Watching movies and shows
-I also travel so now I will be able to take my Air instead of my old laptop which was so heavy that I just checked it.

People greatly underestimate what a modern ultraportable can do. But all of these tasks are possible on a much slower computer and downright easy on a 1.8GHz i5.

I use my MBA for work stuff. E-mail, Office, a bit of designing and of course web browsing. It's a great machine, if you only do some basic stuff :)

It's my main computer.

I had Steam, Football Manager 2012, iTunes, Safari and Chrome all running at once last night. My 2012 MBA 8gb RAM handled it with ease and i was able to switch through each program with great speed. Oh i also had the Twitter app running to keep my followers updated on my Mac adventure.

My 2011 Sony Vaio would have crashed with just Steam and iTunes! It also took my Sony around 5mins to on iTunes. My MBA opens iTunes in under 2 seconds!!!;)

So glad i made the switch.

Your rMBP needs repairs already?! What's wrong with it?

I do that with my Air all the time. It was great during the Olympics. I was posting sarky comments on another forum about the opening ceremony as it was on (it was a live discussion thread).

Ah, once you go Mac, you'll never go back ;) That's why I chose my username. I was going to have the full phrase but it was too long. The original username I wanted was taken and the username I use on another forum wouldn't really suit this one.

Well, a couple of things. One my wall paper won't stay on the one I select. Say I select the stock and reboot it goes back to just a gray color. Tried reinstalling OS and didn't help. Had periodic freezes and also my screen would go dark. When it froze I had to do a hard shut down. Lastly, it had the image retention issue but that was not why I took it in but I did mention it to them. I suggested they give me a new one but they said no. I called a few days later to see why the repair status had not changed and the person on the phone said that they should have given me a new one:) Oh well.

That doesn't sound too good, especially for a new computer.
