MacBook Air vs. MacBook Pro

I am torn between getting the new M2 MBA vs the MacBook Pro 14".

Currently, I have a 2019 MacBook Pro and I use it for general Office Applications, browsing with multiple tabs, have it connected to two monitors using a $50 USB-C hub, no special apps, no gaming or editing. And the usage will continue to be the same.

The draw towards the M2 MBA is the new silicon chip, new form factor, and midnight color, and ok with using the same dongle to connect with the external monitors.

And the appeal of the MacBook Pro is the powerful chip and the no need for a USB-C hub.

Certainly leaning toward the MBA but wondering if there are any other considerations?

The M2 MBA supports only 1 external monitor. The Pro supports 2 (M1 Pro) or up to 4 (M1 Max).

And that's why I was mentioning I was going to use the USB-C Hub. Even use the 2019 MacBook Pro with the hub.

I was torn to. There some issues for me on the M2 air that might or might not materialize but was enough to push me to the 14. I was worried about portability. Playing with one at bestbuy took that away for me. I also vainly and for me silly to choose Macbook air for the color Midnight

Please understand there is not enough info so this was more of a gut issue. First after I upgrade ram and ssd its pretty close and i was able with discounts to buy one 1695.

The heat issue that some testing had on m2 pro 13 and they blamed it on a 1 fan instead of 2 worried me what it be like on a no fan. I strap a laptop to my drivers side desk so its in a truck 8-10 hrs a day.

The test showing one ssd chip instead of Two
Which made it half the speed.

Which after testing weight of the 14 i was really just buying for color “Midnight” which for me seemed silly and vain.

The better screen and sound will be nice also for my overnight trips

Makes sense that you did it on pure practical applications! And you are going to be happy with it for years to come. Enjoy!

Unless it is a DisplayLink hub it still won’t support 2 displays on a MacBook Air. DisplayLink uses USB and separate drivers to support displays that aren’t connected to the MacBook’s internal display controller. DisplayLink works but has issues with things like DRM protected videos.
