I really hope that similar upgrades in a Haswell-based Retina MacBook Pro come out soon. The MBAs are setting a higher expectation for what the rMBPs should be capable of.

I was really hoping that the MBAs and MBPs would be simultaneously announced.

I'm surprised they didn't talk this up more in the presentation. It would dispel a lot of the "Apple didn't do anything but replace the CPU" criticism. This is actually pretty significant.

I currently got the 2011 13'' Air and I think it's still really fast, dunno what could be faster to be honest. Apps open almost instantly, booting happens in 15 sec. and everything else is still snappy.

Maybe this is handy for video editing?

Btw, I get the feeling it wont be as fast when I update to the new OS Mavericks. Could this be true? -> Apple doing something so it runs slower on ''older'' machines and kinda pushing you to buy a new one.

I had this happen on my iPad (1st gen), it went from being normal to slow with the 5.1.1 and the device was just 2 damn years old then

That is SMOKIN' fast. Wow.
Not seen the +2000 megabytes per second PCI-E units? Mind you, cheap is the last thing I'd call those.

Though 800 megs per sec is still damn good speed in a lightweight machine; now I just wonder what its random I/O is - as thats still the big true-performance determining factor.

Think i might order one now. Anyone know if the HD5000 is comparable to a AMD 6750m or not?

Okk I think it can get so fast that I don't even see a need for it anymore, I am happy with my rMBP flash & blahh wow sometimes there are really techie guys who get happy about SSD speed improvements, sorry but lol what you doing all day, transferring 300gb files from one folder to another o_O ohh you do? Me too ~.~
Talking about non developers, I know devs & designers do some pretty big stuff ;)

As an example, the clock speeds were lowered to further extend battery life - keeping Geekbench performance roughly on par with last year's machines rather than providing the standard 20% improvement.

The awesome thing is, it isn't like these are existing architectures with lowered speeds either, these are brand new designs with primary emphasis on low power usage.

On another note, it does have HD5000 graphics now which is always a bonus!

That's pretty fast. The 2014-15 Airs will be faster than the unupgradable 2013 Mac pros lol.

Wrong on both accounts. The MP is both faster, and (word from the WWDC floor) upgradable. But you know that, right? :)

Also, since when was the MacBook Air upgradable.

Still, those figures are very impressive.

Can't wait for Haswell specs and PCIe flash in MBPr. Is there a consensus that they'll be announced one way or another in the fall?

My partner purchased a 2012 macbook air on May 9th and it arrived on May 17th. I called Apple last night to explore our options. They agreed to allow for a full refund of her 2012 machine even though we were just over their 30 day return policy. We just ordered a brand new one. We've already received the return shipping label for the old air. We'll wait for the new one to arrive, import the data, wipe the old one and send it back. All in all (with our custom build) it will cost us just $20.00. Needless to say, we're very happy! Thanks Apple.

To me, this seemed like one of the highlights of yesterdays presentation. The advancements in the MBA's is impressive. Might have to get one soon. :)

I'm really trying to convince myself that I don't need this upgrade from my 2012 MacBook but the battery life and now this!

Go ahead. Treat yourself. You deserve this. You work hard everyday and to what end???

You ARE worth it!!

(Is this helping you to make the purchase?)

That's seems to be a nice occasion to replace my Late 2010 Air. And I finally get the Airplay feature as well :D
