I'll take a retina display over battery life any day. Retina gives more screen real estate, a 24" equivalent screen in your lap is just plain useful.
Geekbench only tests the CPU portion of the die. You'll have to wait for synthetic 3D and gaming benchmarks. I know I am.

Q: Is this new SSD architecture fast enough to lessen the need for a lot of RAM? In other words, is page-in and page-out becoming so fast that it doesn't hold up the computer?

This bus speed is 800 Mbps.
Thunderbolt 2 has a bus speed of 20 Gbps.
So does it then figure that we will see external RAM soon ?
That's pretty fast. The 2014-15 Airs will be faster than the unupgradable 2013 Mac pros lol.
But the Flash in the Mac Pros IS upgradable.
