What are the real-world benefits of the MacBook Air speed increases? What are people doing with their MacBook Air's that are going to benefit from such speed increases?

I'm stupid, please help.

There are quite a few benefits one might see with the new Airs.

1) The new SSDs are going to be even faster at booting, opening apps and performing file operations.

2) Haswell processors are more efficient at doing things now. By some estimates, they are 10% faster while using 25% less

Modern electronics/ CPUs have several low power states that consume very little electricity. By performing tasks faster, whether its calculations on the CPU, opening apps or file operations, the chips can quickly get back to a low power state.

The end consumer benefit is that you have small performance gains, but huge gains in battery life.
 
The best looking user interface Apple have put out in a long time, cool bits and pieces that I'll actually use in Mavericks, this insanely fast Macbook Air, the new Mac Pro... damn, WWDC was good.

Web browsing takes a lot of CPU and caching. Any performance benefit that effects web browsing speed is going to be appreciated by anyone using a computer. Not to mention many people use their macbook airs for their work, so obviously any professional is going to benefit from any speed increase as well.
 
Not to rain on the parade but with the fantastic speeds but it is the random IOs that make SSDs feel so much faster and snappier in everyday use.

For my work flow, I'd trade sequential performance for random IO performance any day of the week. I rarely have to transfer large chunks of sequential data but this can be important to some.

Q: Is this new SSD architecture fast enough to lessen the need for a lot of RAM? In other words, is page-in and page-out becoming so fast that it doesn't hold up the computer?

It will be better, but paging will still be orders of magnitude slower than not paging.

Another thing that lots of RAM gives you is more caching of files and file metadata. That helps make everything snappier.

So before they announced this you predicted that they would exceed the speed of SATA 3 by bypassing that technology as a market first in laptop... wow can you also tell me the what stocks i should bye - because that is 1 amazing gift M8

And close to 800 mb/ sek is not fast enough for you ? when is that not enough ? when you are downloading with 1GB/ sek ? even google Fiber only have around 700 mb/ sek and that is of-course if you can find a source that can throw data at you at that rate.

or is it when you are useing your 700X Cd drive to rip your CD collection ?

or when you DONT WANT TO WAIT LESS THAN whole 3 fracking minutes to fill up the entire drive with data ... 2.7 minutes to fill 128 gb disk....

Memory bandwidth on a Xeon is 30 GBps to 60 GBps (240 Gbps to 480 Gbps).

No, you won't be seeing useful external RAM soon.

Where does Apple say that you can upgrade the PCIe SSD in the Apple proprietary socket?

There's lots of history that just because something in an Apple is socketed doesn't mean that it can be upgraded. (cite graphics cards for a prime example)
