Uh oh, it is using a Samsung controller. The Mac Pro does too from one of the photos. I sense some confusion coming. :p

This is the sort of news I was waiting for in the last year. Apple and the tech mfgs. needed to step forward and get everything sped up, and now they are taking that major step. Computer tech. has lagged in these last years between development and market.

Though others will jump at upgrades, I'm sticking with my older Apple computers until at least late 2014 or 2015; usually every first that Apple puts out is just a guidepost to vast improvements in the following models.

Much faster Flash memory is the most interesting news. This and the advances in power management are great to hear. The superficial changes to the look of the OSs, both MacOSX and iOS, are boring wastes of resources. I am interested in Apple making significant improvements while maintaining, and improving, legacy support. When Apple merges OSX and iOS that will be very significant. When they re-support Classic/PPC/68K that will be dramatic and I'll upgrade all of our systems.

Nice update, more than a simple speed bumps. I hope they will adopt the same solutions with the whole Retina MBP series. The 13" rMBP would become a beast of a machine!
For now, I stick to my 11" 2011 MBA,still serving me well

That's pretty fast. The 2014-15 Airs will be faster than the unupgradable 2013 Mac pros lol.

unupgradable mac pro, sure. With thunderbolt 2, you can just put whatever you want behind. But it's not like you were judging a mac you only saw in pictures right ?

My mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro with its upgraded 16GB ram and 512 GB Samsung 840 SSD is starting to look slow. LOL!!!!! :p

Can you provide a link to some of these thunderbolt 2 accessories?

Even a thunderbolt 1 would be good.

Impressive stats... would have been nice to add retina display to that... will have to (try to) resist an upgrade... arrghhh

Impressive. Although, I'm one of those users that needs a much more powerful CPU and would prefer a retina display. Perhaps one day I'll get one of these.

wow. preview of the next rmbp. if it does get to 800mb read/write, wouldn't bother with 3rd party solution. awesome apple!!

Has any of the reviews mentioned anything about heat?
With a lower clock speed I guess the new Airs could be running cooler than the previous generation?

Haswell has a lower TDP, if memory serves, so clock for clock they should run cooler regardless.

I'll take 12hr battery life over a retina display any day. Retina makes things prettier, 12 hrs of battery is just plain useful. And the MBA has never been for the people who need that fastest CPU.

As an aside - 9to5mac anecdotally reports double the battery life on a 2008 MBP running Mavericks. Imagine combining those OS gains with the new Haswell machines!!!

Awesome — my early 2008 MBP is going to get 60 minutes of battery life instead of 30! :D Seriously, this is even more incentive to hang onto my old MBP, even though I bought a 2012 Mac mini earlier this year and had planned to sell the MBP. I didn't expect it to be able to run Mavericks. It might even be worth buying a new battery and a cheap SSD to replace the HDD.

I guess now may be the time...

I guess now may be the time to replace my 2006 MacBook 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, 500 GB serial ATA hard drive (a replacement) that has a flickering/freezing screen and 34% battery capacity. I know, I know, the Apple haters will say that I'm on the Apple treadmill and am wasting my money but don't all laptops last 7+ years?

Still trying to find out how many 11ac streams the new MacBook Air supports.

The 11ac AirPort Extreme specs say it is 3 stream, but it wouldn't surprise me too much if the MBA was only 1 or 2 streams to save battery life.

I think it's a shame they don't make the MBA in a range of colours like the iPod touch. I'm sure that would help to differentiate it from all the copycat machines out there and prove a big hit with consumers.

Help the Aged

Can someone enlighten me...

What are the real-world benefits of the MacBook Air speed increases? What are people doing with their MacBook Air's that are going to benefit from such speed increases?

I'm stupid, please help.

It looks good when people try to justify their purchases to others as they define themselves by the products they own.

SATA Express is standard next year. Get to be a special snow flake until the Intel 9 Series, today.
