Isn't that a beauty or what?

Hopefully one day I can possess one of those... :D

Cheers! :apple:

Wow, there is no doubt about it, that is a truly sexy machine. I haven't seen beauty like this in a computer since the Cube (which still wins my vote, however).

It's too bad this little laptop is so overpiced. I can't imagine what is inside it that makes it cost $1799... its own personal RDF generator??!

-Clive

The 12 inch AlBook cost the same amount at launch.

I'll happily sacrifice the 2 measely pounds, .5", and back-lit keyboard for a cheaper, more powerful notebook, thanks. Why? Because I have common fiscal sense, and I'm not a wimp.

Wait, then why don't you buy a desktop?

It gives more power per $ than any laptop. If that's what matters you should be buying an iMac.

Well when you compare it to other overpriced things it looks like a steal... but price vs performance, the only theft taking place is in the pocketbooks of its new owners.

Wait, are we actually still having this argument? I'm tired of snapping my fingers in the faces of brain-washed RDF victims.

So, conversely, MBA air owners have no fiscal common sense and are whimps? Personally I don't think the MBA is right for me at the moment (but could be in the future) since I just don't feel the need for a lighter notebook. Even aesthically speaking I don't think MB's or MBP's are particularly ugly. Therefore I don't see the point.

However, each to their own and I wouldn't make a blanket statement like you have.

THE TRUE FANBOY, WHEN PRESENTED WITH GOOD NEWS ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT, WILL, INSTEAD OF PRAISING IT, ATTACK OTHERS.
Ask yourself, are YOU a fanboy

You: Hey, the iPhone is pretty cool!
Fanboy Me: Your mom smells funny!

 Er...what?

"Others" as in other competing products and those people who own / support them. So the example you'd want is:

LEOPARD GETS RAVE REVIEWS
Person 1: Leopard's great.
Person 2: I love Leopard's new features.
Person 3: It's great to see Apple have improved on Tiger in so many ways.
Fanboy: Windoze users are p4wnd again! Keep buying Micro$oft's out of date joke products you sheep and don't forget your POS Dells to run them on. Bunch of morons - if I was a Windoze user I'd kill myself out of embarrassment.

Does that make sense now? :)

For what it is worth I agree with Clive at Five, especially with the slew of half baked and delayed releases, but more seriously what version of OS 10.5 is it supplied with? I used to be an over excited early adopter of everything Apple, but lately when Steve says gee whizz look at what we are bringing out next - I say what ever.

Poor people shouldn't comment on new technology, cause they can never afford it and do nothing but complain.

With your purchase concept above you wouldn't mind an iPhone that weighed an extra pound and was an inch larger in every direction for half the price? Oh, but they'll put a faster processor in it.

I think the Air is stinkin' gorgeous regardless of what's in it. Pretty impressive.

I know quite a few colleagues that will never use a 15" notebook, let alone a 13" because of the screen real estate. No matter how you explain, you can't convince them to "waste" money on it. It's just a preference.

So go find another laptop to buy. Nobody cares about your opinion on the macbook air. People want to see photos and get first impressions. You don't even have one so your post adds nothing.

If you're so brawny, why don't you just lug a macpro and a monitor around...

For the Denver, CO Mac Dorks

I called both Aspen Grove & Cherry Creek Apple Stores, and they are expecting them "within a couple of days."

I'd say tomorrow is sounding pretty good.
The weekend seems almost certain.

So why not go buy an 8-core Mac Pro, bolt a flat screen onto the side and then mount it on top of a small generator and carry that around instead?

I mean... you're not a wimp, right? So the 50lbs (not including fuel) shouldn't be an issue? Right?

Get over it... just because it doesn't meet your specific needs doesn't mean it sucks... it just means it's not for you. Why does that make you feel so uncomfortable?

That's like saying a $1000 size 0 dress is a waste of money because it won't fit your burly ass.

Right there is where you drop the ball.

It's not price versus performance. It's price versus SIZE/WEIGHT and performance.

And of course those aren't important to you. But they are to others - the extra money is worth the smaller dimensions. And compared to other notebooks of similar size, it's NOT overpriced.

We get it. You're not the market for the air. So why do you need to keep beating that dead horse?

Wait, are we actually still having this argument? I'm tired of snapping my fingers in the faces of brain-washed RDF victims.

And I'm tired of explaining to people that design is a feature, and one that you pay handsomely for when buying anything from clothes to a car to a house. Maybe it's a feature you're not interested in, but it is a feature, and it does cost a great deal to achieve what the MBA has achieved. So it's not for you; big deal. Get over the idea that every product is designed with you in mind.

And I didn't buy one of those either.

At least that had features comparable to the PowerBook of the day.

No, no it didn't. Lower RAM capacity, no backlit keys, smaller HD, slower processor, no card slot, no FW 800, far worse graphics, etc. The 12" powerbook was never anything but a slightly thinner, aluminum ibook.

This thing has soldered RAM and no optical drive, for the love of Trogdor.

Here is an idea.... if you think that the machine is too expensive.... DON'T BUY ONE!

The reason why this thing is the price it is, is NOT beacuse of it's specs, but because you need to CRAM all those specs into a SMALLER CASE!

I repeat it again, cause you've argued your point like 5 times. When you make computer parts smaller, its more expensive. Not because they are better, but they are smaller.

If you don't like that? Just keep walking past the laptop asle and onto the iMac table.

End of story.

That's great. Now can you give an example of a microsoft fanboy?
Oh....nevermind.

I like how they're tethered to the tables via some sort of USB cable. Maybe you can buy those somewhere...
