I love mine, but the contrast on the MB screen leaves much to be desired. The blacks are very washed out still...looks like Apple tanked the screen to make the MBP's look that much nicer.

This is particularly noticible when you set the desktop to Aurora or the 2/3 earth picture.

Oh well...its like LIGHTNING compared to my 800mhz iBook. (I got the 2.0ghz model BTW)

You can vastly improve the contrast by calibrating the monitor. The default setting is horrendously washed out! That said, my 1 year old MBP display is still better but I'm still loving this machine (2.4 ghz MB).

I just bought a 2.0 MB, and I'm loving it! Its perfectly fast, and the loss of a backlight keyboard w/ the addition of $300 in my pocket is NBD because I am a touch typist.

I just received my 2.4 MB Alu today! This is my first Mac product besides my original iPhone, and I love it so far! I am excited to finally test for myself the quality of Macs that everyone talks about. It's so pretty!

Picked up my 2.0 Macbook 14 hours ago. So far its great, it's my first mac and i'm still trying to get used to the new OS, but works fine. Had a little trouble with the iSight camera, but after some reboots it worked again.

Overall it's a great machine, i love the design :D

My trackpad doesn't look like what you're describing... it's perfectly centered on the wrist rest area and I'd say there's about a 1mm consistent gap around the entire trackpad where it meets with the aluminum.

Mine actually looks centered now, so I'm guessing that it can "rest" in a state that is slightly off-kilter based on the last action. There's actually a 1mm gap around the trackpad, just like you said. :)

I'm terrible. I upgraded my desktop a few days ago to the 24" 2.8 iMac and then today also picked up the new 2.4 MB.

To think that I only switched to Mac last September! Now I have these two Macs, as well as the 3G iPhone and a 160GB :apple:TV ( I had an MBA for a short while and sold that to buy a Cervelo)

I shouldn't be lusting after this stuff at 53 :)

That was the first thing I did after letting the screen warm up for a few hours. It made a little bit of difference, but still washed out'ish...oh well, still better than my iBook is/was :p

Lust at any age is great! :p

I did that same thing last year. First I bought an iMac 20, then a few weeks later a white MacBook, then a MacBook Air (sold in June), and now the new 2.4 MacBook.

The only thing I didn't buy was an Apple TV. ;)

I just got mine today. I got the 2.0GHz and I like it, and at 1st I didn't like it that much. I got the my other macbook 3 months ago, so I gave it to my wife (converted her to the dark side haa haa).

OK, I got all my data transferred from my old MacBook. I did it all manually and it took me about five to six hours, but it went pretty smoothly. :)

I just posted this in another thread:

BTW, I have the MB and MB Alu right here next to one another in a quiet hotel room in Austin, TX and the MacBook is at least twice as loud!

It's that brick construction, I tell you! :p

yeah
i could totally hear that OLD mb from 9th st
hehe

new convert.. don't wanna go back :)

Here's another happy new convert. I have to say i'm impressed so far. The simplicity and ease of use is amazing. Even installing/uninstalling programs blows me away! :) Can you tell i'm excited?
I was considering installin VMWare Fusion to run XP or Vista, but after a couple of days, i'm not so sure anymore if I even want to mess with Windows more than at work. The only thing holding me back right now is not being able to get my Outlook 2007 .pst file transferred to Entourage... So i'll have to see.
But all in all, I'm not regretting switching over, especially with the new macbooks that are more beautiful than ever (in my humble opinion as an observer for the past couple of years).
Next are the IPhone and :apple: TV! I think i'm already hooked :)

Welcome to the club! :) If you want to move your PST e-mail files to the Mac, here's a nice little program, called O2M, that can help you: http://www.littlemachines.com/.

Enjoy!

Thanks UBERCOOL i will give that a shot on Monday when i install Office for Mac. That might just save me the hassle of having to have XP on there as well.

I only use XP when Microsoft Word or Excel files do not behave well in Pages and Numbers. Also, I'm still reliant on Quicken on the PC side, because I'm waiting for the next update of the Mac version. But other than that, I don't use Fusion very much. ;)

Oh I forgot, I also like to play Spider Solitaire on the Windows side. :p

I just pulled the trigger on the 2.4

Truth be told I still think apple's hardware is overpriced. I am also not too fond of their blatant disregard for their userbase wants/needs. The lack of firewire doesn't bother me but the requirement to have adapters for external displays and whatnot sucks badly (I do understand that the firewire issue is a concern for some).

That being said, I will be running vmware and it will be nice to run all the OSs I need on one laptop... apple's, microsoft's, and many different flavors of *nix. In addition, I really do like the footprint and design (including the mbp).

I think apple's market share will continue to grow and I have no problems recommending them to customers. On the flip side of that, I have no problems pointing out apple's weaknesses (where they can improve) or pointing out the pros of using a pc.

Computers are first and foremost tools and all flavors have their pros and cons. In my line of work, I am required to be familiar with (use and support) lots of different platforms.

I think as apple's market share grows we will start to see more objective opinions instead of the overwhelming blind "fanboyism" that has existed. My hopes are that apple responds accordingly. :)

Hopefully my post won't make anyone angry, I really am looking forward to the new macbook.

bootcamp

i know i will be yelled at for just for saying windows on a mac. but i would like to know if the new mb will have the drivers for 64 bit xp.

Nah, even the fanboys realize that Apple is quite deaf when it comes to hearing user needs, the FireWire port and adapters needed for the Displayport are just a few issues in a long list of things Apple needs to address. And don't get me started on the iPhone...

Luckily, the user experience makes up for most of the Mac's, and iPhone's, shortcomings. In fact, I consider the Alu MacBook one of the best-designed laptops of all time. :)

ubercool,
now that you mentioned it, Solitaire would be something i would want to have. This might be a stupid question, but since i'm new to Mac and all, how does running XP in Fusion affect the performance of the whole system?

Hi altair7, can you elaborate on how you calibrated your monitor? Care to post your settings? A few others have mentioned the same thing in the MacBook forum and I think it would be helpful for others to follow your guidelines. :)

The MacBook will run hotter at times with the fan blowing on start-up or during some processor-intensive cycles. But I play it on the plane for hours at a time with no discernible performance hit, so no complaints! :)

I consider the iphone to be the best smartphone available today...and I've used A LOT of smartphones, I have no less than 5 of them (even recent ones) sitting in my desk drawer

however, I'm with you, there are a couple MAJOR problems with it, even though I'm living with them...the part that is frustrating is they are problems that could have been addressed easily, i.e. replaceable battery...that is the single most ridiculous thing on the iphone for me...the battery life is horrid...and that is to be expected with such a great multi-purpose device (read, power hog) which is why not having an easy replaceable battery is such a huge glaring error...heck they even had a chance to address/correct it, but they ignored their userbase...anyway sorry for the rant, it is way off topic

...bring on my new macbook!

Hey everyone- just got back from the Apple Store after selling my old Macbook (2006 C2D).

Also, this is the Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz 2GB's of Ram, 160GB HDD model. My 4GB kit should be here soon from Newegg.

And now, pictures! :D

two items

OK so first of all, i dont know about you guys but i find myself not using that CLICK feature of the pad as much. I have 1 finger tap to click and Dragging features selected and two finger secondary click set. I guess this is just a matter of personal preference and what you're used to before... I still LOVE the fact that you can CLICK anywhere on the trackpad but i just realized i dont use it as much. What is everyone else's preference?
Also, i'm getting 95F HD temp and 145F CPU A temp with fans running at right around 2000rpm, while Itunes firefox and safari are on.
I'm curious what others are running.

I just enabled the single tap as a click feature and I love it! :) I'm also totally smitten with the four-finger Expose/Desktop/application switching feature. Never thought I would appreciate a multi-touch trackpad as much as I do now.

That temp of yours sounds high. I just opened all three apps and the fan stays at 2000rpm while my temp is only 37 degrees. Of course, I'm not playing anything in iTunes because I have yet to transfer my music folder. :p
