$1800 is way too much. I'd like to see $1500 MBP similar to this with the following BTO options:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz)
15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
2 GB RAM
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Wireless N w/ Bluetooth
Total: $1,424.99

Surely Apple can make one of those for $1500.

Note: it's 1.3 inches thick. Just think of what Apple could do with a extra 0.3 inches of thickness.

That works for me

( I am on my work computer, so no beefs about IE here )

If I compare to current prices.

Me thinks.....

$899 - Base line with combo. just to increase sales.
$1299 - what the baseline black was.
$1599 - Blu-ray?

One other thought?

that "k" does stand out as a lone fish.....

$899 is new device - beefed up netbook, or entry level low end net/tablet/touch thingy? - not a tablet, but a beefy netbook with a swivel touchscreen?

Base line eliminated (current $1099 combo drive model).
$1299 What the black was.
$1599 - blu ray, 4gb memory standard...

then your tablet/macpad with the imac doc comes out at MWSF.

=======================

or?

$899 current baseline with combo.
$1299 - what the black was.
$1599 - really beefed up with touchscreen.

also, the current macbooks don't have multi-touch like the pros do, so I see that coming...

ok - like mom used to say on Chrismas eve, you know if you go to bed now, tomorrow will come quicker.

if these prices are true it gonna be a midrange macbook for 1500-1600 (with upgrades) or a 2200-2500 MBP (with upgrades) for me. that sounds not like the expected price drop.:(
the components of these machines are better highest quality for these prices and the weight has to be low. if not i'm sure my PB G4 can do another 9 month.:D

Hmm...

Anyone else know for sure? Or how about at an Apple store, will a print out of my schedule work?

Are you staff or student at a university or college, if you are your good, all you have to do is enter your student/employee number. If you aren't a student and you want the discount anyway, be warned, that sounds illegal.

I bought mine online and got the education discount, I don't think there was any verification but that was 3 years ago! My girlfriend just bought a new Macbook in August (even though I told her to wait). But the lady at the store was nice enough to give her the discount, ipod touch, and free printer without her student ID because she left it at home. But we did provide an e-mail address linked to our University so maybe that helped?

$1999 sounds expensive for a macbook pro with no bluray drive, i don't see how they would keep that same pricing when it's egregiously overpriced

stop asking about how much things will cost and what kind of discount you will get. Geez who the hell knows you only have a few more hours to wait.

What is the harm of asking what the discount will be for a student. I am sure many people will need to know how much something will potentially cost so they can plan the purchase. I, for one, tend to get as much information as possible. The education discount should be a valid question as should the question of whether that discount works at Best Buy. Is a public forum like this limited to only speculation about things you like to talk about? ;)

Fit with what?

There's so much FUD, rampant speculation and shenanigans going on to tell. Especially over the last few years where anyone can set up a blog, make it look professional and get it hammered by some social networking site so it attracts thousands and thousands of unsuspecting internet users.

Try and filter through some of it.

Doesn't Fit with Apple's MO.
Exactly all the rampant speculation the one think we know is what Apple has done in the past, and pricing and price points are pretty structured. Price points in the low end are close they get larger as you go up the product tree.

Apple is not ready yet for a tablet. OSX is not ready and the technology is not ready. Apple will not release a tablet until the time is right. As much as I would like one Apple is not ready. Apple is a game changer and until the perfected it they will not release it.

A touch netbook on the other hand the time is right. They have the perfect OS for it and they have perfected the hardware. It's possible to have some sort of convertible touch netbook.

Why is OSX not ready? I have a wacom bamboo plugged into my macbook and it seem pretty darn ready to me.

i will seriously shoot :apple: if they continue with those F******* combo drives. I mean COME ON!!!!! ITS 2008 why do they still include no DVD BURNER??? dvd burners were something new and only expensive computers had them...in 2003? its 2008 apple, get with the times. Honestly there is no excuse if the 899$ model has no dvd burner:mad: its just pure stupidity. heck why not put an external floppy drive while ur at it:mad::mad::mad:

Do you know with 100% certainty what is contained in that $1999 Macbook Pro?

It may not be as bad as you think, but we won't know for sure until some point on Tuesday. ;)
