i will seriously shoot :apple: if they continue with those F******* combo drives. I mean COME ON!!!!! ITS 2008 why do they still include no DVD BURNER??? dvd burners were something new and only expensive computers had them...in 2003? its 2008 apple, get with the times. Honestly there is no excuse if the 899$ model has no dvd burner:mad: its just pure stupidity. heck why not put an external floppy drive while ur at it:mad::mad::mad:

I completely agree. This laptop, even though it is an Acer is a great computer spec. wise and just goes to show that Apple needs to get their sh** together if they want to stay competitive. DVD Burners are cheap, cheap, cheap, and no one thinks of them as a "premium" feature. You can get CD/DVD burners in $399 laptops now. None the less, I'm so stoked for tomorrow:)

I totally agree. Users have a right to be angry if Apple continues to put combo drives in ANY of their notebook machines. It is not possible to find a single current HP laptop with just a combo drive.

this is fun. i'm almost looking more forward to the rumor roundup after the release than to the release itself. let's see who was right and who was completely off.

Education Model

The K model could be for the educational market. The M models are for retail and business sales.

I think the prices will be $799 to $ 1499 for the MacBooks and 1799 to 2,999 for the MacBook Air's and the Macbook Pro's.

The Tablet and new iMac's will probably land in January.

If these model numbers are legitimate, The K model letter definitely stands out. If I had to guess I would say that the K is going to be the only plastic laptop.

K might stand for black--it often does in part numbers for cameras or stereo equipment that come in both Black (K) and Silver (S) finishes. The lack of "S" part numbers (I suppose they'd be "A," actually, for Aluminum) argues against this idea, but at least it's based in real-world product-number grammar. And if it's the only non-aluminum product, maybe it got a new category name.

Do you know with 100% certainty what is contained in that $1999 Macbook Pro?

It may not be as bad as you think, but we won't know for sure until some point on Tuesday. ;)

obviously no one knows for sure right now and clearly it's just my opinion. I maintain my belief that $1999 for a notebook wtih no bluray drive is overpriced and simply out of respect to their fanbase they should either lower their price or offer more features. I think $1599 is fair for a mbp with no bluray drive.

There's no confirmation of a combo drive or a super drive. Complain tomorrow if they still have one. Not now when you might look like a giant douche tomorrow. Why the **** rag on a poor decision that hasn't even been made!

Interesting..

Really piques my interest in regards to the earlier mentioned price gap. That and the seemingly stable price point of the MacBook Pro models.

Fully understood, and awesome points!

The difference is way to big... then again we have a $1299 iMac, and a $1599 iMac. $899 is too expensive for a netbook, and to be honest it would be a fatal mistake if that's true.

If Apple releases a (current base model spec'd) Macbook for $899, that's going to be a huge kick in the ass for me. But thats life. :(

Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day!

A $1799 is not even close to competitive. It is overpriced by $300 if they put anything close to what might be expected (see one of my previous posts for the recommended specs for an Apple $1500 MBP notebook).
Basically, Apple needs to lower their prices of their "high-end" Macs by $500 at least and more "up to date" specs.

true but it's better than $1999, the fact is apple has users by the balls. Either you get a watered down macbook or you pay the premium for the mbp

Yeah, they'd better drop prices on everything. I'm hoping for $100 price drops on all MacBooks and an additional $100 drop for the blackbook (that totals $200 people), $200 off the the low-end Air, , $200 off the low-end Pro, $300 off the other Pro models, and at least $100 off the high-end Air.

I'm saying in general, not based on what's out tomorrow, but even in laptops that were released earlier in the year that still contained a DVD writer as a "premium" feature. It's not. And I'm sure Apple will indeed rectify that tomorrow. I was just pointing out that the Acer laptop I linked to is only $1299 with a Centrino 2, 4GB of Ram, 320GB HD, and a Blu-Ray reader. Hopefully we'll see some real competition from Apple tomorrow.
