Well, yeah, it's too late now....How to scream I don't know Apple's market base.

Not sure if someone else answered it, but it would seem it was both the (then) base M4 Mac mini and the Walmart-special M1 MacBook Air.How was the sub $700 market even 2%? That had to be all refurbs. They’ve never sold a computer in that price range. Unless that was 100% base model Mac Minis from a few years ago?
Cannibalizing the other MacBook models.
Doubt they made any more money.
Yep, iPhone and iPads is where they make their money through the App Store. It's not about making money on the Macs anymore, it's about all the App Store/services revenues.
If 8GB were enough, then iPhones wouldn't come with 12 GB. 8 GB for a machine with a desktop OS is not enough.I have M1 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM. I think I have finally hit the limit of 8GB of RAM. It took Safari with 12+ tabs, ChatGPT, Notion, Codex and Xcode to do it. I think for basic needs, where Neo is aimed at, 8GB will be plenty for years to come.
It is not enough for some of us. Many millions of people simply browse the web, check email, use spreadsheets. It's plenty for them.If 8GB were enough, then iPhones wouldn't come with 12 GB. 8 GB for a machine with a desktop OS is not enough.
Yes but then the price would be close to base MBA territory, at which point its just better to buy the MBA, which I suppose is exactly what Apple would want you to do.If there was a 12 or 16GB RAM option it would be even more popular... at least one more (me) person popular.
Why would they be non-binned?
It sounds like you don't understand what binned chips are. The entire industry takes this approach.
Macs use magical iRAM which transcends all other RAM.8gb of ram lol, good luck in 3 years with it… damn
No, they don't. But Macs are very good at dynamically allocating memory to the various processes.Macs use magical iRAM which transcends all other RAM.
By all accounts, most of the Neo buyers are new to Apple computers. There will certainly be some cannibalization but there is a lot more new custom acquisition from this.Cannibalizing the other MacBook models.

That sub-$500 starting price with the education discount was one heck of a magic number. I came very close to buying one myself even though I have an M2 Pro MBP that's better in every way that I can use instead...

I think its more from new customers, with some cannibalisation of MBA sales as the MBA still shipped 900,000 units. Are these sales coming from cannibalizing MacBook Air sales or from new customers? How is the M5 MBA selling in comparison to previous versions at this point in the cycle?
