how long do they take to do the repair?

I walked to the shop, dropped the computer off, and got on a bus to Uni (~30 mins away). By the time I'd got in, I got a phone call to tell me it was fixed and ready to pick up. It doesn't take long. At least in my experience.

I took mine to the apple store . They noticed the cracks ( I was there for help with replacing a hard drive..) They offered to reseat my hard drive , install the original OS,replace the rubber inside the hard drive compartment, replace keyboard and top plastic and something to do with my screen flicker... All free! apple rocks

I went because my hard drive started playing up, they also noticed the cracked plastic on the top, and they quoted my over 200 quid (when it wasn't in warranty) to replace the hard drive, reinstall the OS and replace the plastic. So I took it to a different apple store, and because it was the last thing on a sunday night, they took it and replaced all that for FREE and put a new battery in, because they noticed mine didn't hold charge long.
I love :apple: I always say to people, you pay a lot, but you get great customer care with your computer.

I went to get mine fixed today. I was told it shouldn't take long and should only be a few hours so i walked about the city until they called me. 3 hours and I went back up to the genius bar and asked if it had been fixed. The girl went off to check and then came back to tell me that their system has been down so they can't process any repairs and they couldn't tell me when it would be fixed.

So I need to venture into the city again whenever they call me. Pretty annoyed as I was told on the phone it would only take an hour or so and I should have it the same day.

im looking to purchase this used early model (purchased in may 06) 2006 macbook 2.0ghz duo 2gb ram, white macbook with cracked palmrest, and a small scratch on screen for $300. since its an early model of 06 and i read the above post that apple will only fix it when out of warranty for up to 3 years, i will assume they will not fix the one im looking at, correct? just want to make sure its worth the buy.

I think it sounds like a decent deal if you can live with the scuffs.

i dont mind the scuffs, just that the palmrest has the typical cracked and chipped off about an inch to an inch and half. just want to know if apple will even service it. original owner bought it in may 06.

Why don't u just take it in to an Apple Store and see if they replace it. Lots of people who got their Macs in 2006 got theirs relacesd. (See Page 13 of this thread)... I am in the same boat as ur. Got mine in May '06 in US and there are cracks all over. I am in India right now and won't be back in the US till mid-august. Hope Apple replaces it.

If you do go to the Apple store... Plz do let me know if they fixed it or not...

Here are some pics of my macbook:

Apparently Apple redesigned the bezel and released a new version a couple of weeks ago, according to the genius in the london Brent Cross store. So it seems that it is still an ongoing issue with these MacBooks.

I was told that the bezel was the likely cause of the crack in the bottom case on the corner where the screen comes to rest however they didn't want to fix it as: "It is cosmetic" and/or "The case isn't covered under the warranty" Of course if it isn't covered why are you telling me it is only cosmetic?

After a little insistence they are fixing it.

Oh wow, I didn't know Apple replaced these for free. My early 2008 Macbook has had a cracked palm rest for well over a year. It's pretty obnoxious as I breathe the laptop makes a plastic creaking noise as it moves up and down on my stomach. I will need to see where the closest Apple store is.
