Hows the performance with the 13" hooked up to an external display. For example a 22" or 24"?
Tried that, full 1920x1200 on ACD 24" - normal App usage, no problem. I'd say fast actually.

I just said the same thing in another thread!
Greetings Macusers...
So far I've had a 1998 Wallstreet (hated the black keyboard, couldn't see a thing), a 2000 Blueberry iBook (at least the keyboard was a light color... and loved that "blueberry" Turquoise... wish Apple would go back to TROPICAL COLORED laptops and get away from the gawd-awful-boring black and/or white scheme), and in 2006 got this current White iBook which is either 14 or 15-inch, can't remember, but either way, screen is too smallfor me.
Thankfully, I don't lug my laptops anywhere... I do all computing from bed, so laptops are the only way to go (no more sitting at desks, ugh, did that for a lifetime).
So if/when I get another laptop, I'm definitely moving up to the 17-inch baby... I want more screen real estate (so TIRED of moving things around to be able to see what's behind... that dang dock is always in the way, as are my few stickies which won't go "behind" your current webpage unless you MOVE IT, etc.) ...
Though the 17-inch may be too big for my beloved $7-wire-"stackable"-rack from Walmart that acts as my "laptop desk" and is a perfect size for this White iBook... just enough room for the ibook and a mousepad next to it (I never use the trackpad... just too old fashioned, I guess)

I was disheartened to see in the photos that these 17" MBP's have BLACK KEYBOARDS! UGH! How does anyone SEE the keys when they are all black? Does the "backlight" under the keyboard really make a difference? Does it help? Please do tell... as the last thing I would want to end up with is a total black keyboard like the former Wallstreet (no light underneath in the WS) which I could never see the keys I was hitting. It was miserable. I had bought a mini laptop gooseneck light to use with it, which hung over the keyboard, and that never helped much either.
My 2 cents is that whoever-at-apple back at the drawing board is NOT thinking straight when they choose BLACK for the keyboards, light or no light underneath.
But then again, I would throw out ALL black/white products and go back to COLOR COLOR COLOR!

As for batteries, since I use my laptop at home, I'm always plugged in, so don't even need the batteries. I preferred the way the former Blueberry iBook was designed, which let you just take OUT the battery, but this White iBook, the battery is PART OF the bottom of the laptop, so you MUST leave it in at all times, even though I have never used it in three years since I am always plugged in to the A/C adapter.
And from what I'm reading, these MBP's are designed the same as this White iBook as far as the battery goes?

The last thing I am wondering, is what REALLY makes a computer GO FASTER on the internet? (since that's about all I do).
Is it the RAM?
or the HD?
or your ISP speed?
This 2006 White iBook has 1.5GB RAM, and a 60GB HD (which is down to 18GB and 6GB respectiviely = partitioned). And we just moved up to comcast 16mb+/2mb+ fiber optic high speed internet, and I tell you, this forum's pages still take FOREVER to load in.
So will the 17-inch with its 500GB-HD and 4GB RAM "GO FASTER" on the internet?
Many thanks for any tips!

Why aren't you considering the 13"+ACD then? Just curious, as I'm probably going to be moving to that setup in the near future, over a 17".

you remind me of the crazy "dog lady" at the dog park that thinks she can speak to all the animals.....I think it's the obsession with color!![]()
What's everyone's experiences with the 13" screens vs. 15" screens?
I just imagine a 13" being too small because I'm so used to a 15". I find it amazing how many Mac users like the 13" screen. Why is that? Just wondering.
