ffs ive spent hours trying to decide which ram to go with for my late 2011 13 inch. in another thread ive read multiple reports of the corsair being faulty and people having alot of issues so im more or less made my mind up to wait untill the crucial is back in stock(even tho i badly need that 16gb for video editing).
but now im being told the 1.5v ram is better on this machine than 1.35? the crucial is 1.35 and the corsair is 1.5. ugh.....

can someone tell me definitively what voltage the ram that comes as standard with the late 2011 13inch mbp is?

I got Corsair Venegence 16GB kit for my 2012 MacBook Pro 15' and I started having all kinds of kernel panics and crashes. I knew it got to be the RAM so I bought Samsung 2x4GB 1.35v RAM from Newegg and so far no issues what so ever, no kernel panics, no worries about 1.5v ram.

Hi guys, if you have a baseline MBP late 2011 or early 2011 and you have the HD graphics 300, well if you upgrade your RAM to 8GB or 16GB you will go from intel HD graphics 3000 384MB to intel HD graphics 3000 512MB ! :)

Nice side benefit!

Ordered the gskill 16 gb kit from newegg just now for my late 2011 i7 17". The is listed by newegg as 1.5v. Thanks for this informative thread!

And it seems that there is a pricing curve for ram....new specs are only made by a couple of manufacturers and carry premium prices, everyone starts making it and the price drops, then everyone moves on to the next model and prices start to rise again. I think we're at the bottom of the bell curve for 1333mhz laptop ram.

16 gigs of ram? In a laptop? For under a hundred bucks? I'm afraid I'm going to wake up from a dream and it's going to be 1998!

I have Corsair Vengeance 2x8GBGB on my late 2011 13" baseline i5. This will work fine because the late 2011 MBP have 2nd Gen i5 and some of the early i5 and i7 chipset had the 1st Gen. So yeah Corsair is great, you can have a look on YouTube, many people like Lou from UnboxTherapy uses Corsair RAM. But I recommend the Corsair Vengeace @1600Mhz, you can't really see the difference but will boost up your performence for 3D use and it's better for Final Cut Pro. (I use it a lot).

That can't be possible because the Mid 2012 MBP use DDR3L and not DDR3. And also the mid 2012 MBP can only use 1.35V and not 1.5V.

Thomas, by any chance do you have Windows bootcamped? I'm curious to see if it's actually running at 1600 MHz or not. Or at least go deeper into the system report in Apple to see the speeds. Because the "About this Mac" is nothing more than an identifier I thought.

Yes I have windows bootcamped. And also do I use parralels for my MBP, but can't use it yet because Parallels 7 is not supported for Mountain Lion.

Using Parallels Desktop 7 build 7.0.15098 on Mountain Lion over here with no issues. I'm virtualizing windows 7(bootcamp partition) & 8 preview.

If you still have Applecare, keep the original chips to reinstall in case you have to bring it in for service. They won't even look at it if it's running aftermarket memory.

Not true, I just brought another machine in under Applecare and no issues w/aftermarket ram.

Got the gskill ram in from newegg, and installed it without a hitch. No issues thus far.

I know this has become an inside joke, but my God, Safari really, really does seem snappier! :D

Honestly, no fooling. This puppy seems to be loading pages as fast as my 2011 ultimate Air...and it had an SSD!

Hey guys,

I have a 09 Mid 17 Inch MBP that came with 4 GB of Ram. When I got it back almost 3 years ago, I bought G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-8GBSQ.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231294

( Granted I paid 150 bucks back in the day for it )

Well, my Mac was running all crazy so I brought it into apple and they did a hardware test on it and determined that one of the 4 GB sticks was bad. Of course since it wasn't theres, I had to go through G-Skill to get it replaced.

I put back in my original 4 and sent back the 8 to G-Skill.

They figured out it was bad as well and set me back a new 8 GB set of RAM. But they sent me a different type.

G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ

Will this work ok with my MBP or will it hurt it?

Thanks !

Has anyone tried CL11 1600MHz RAM in an Early 11 MBP and did it work or kernel panicked?

No, latency 11 is suppose to be to high for the 13" early MBP, the max it can handle is suppose to be CL10.

It will work just fine, exept the MBP will show in "About this Mac" 1333MHz but it will be most likely clocking it down to 1066MHz.

Using GEIL ram at 1600mhz without a problem.

Sorry just noticed your having an i5 and i am having an i7. Not sure that makes the difference.

Is that the early 2011 2Ghz 2630QM i7? I was under the impression it could not do 1600mhz ram

I want buy the new 15 inch macbook pro (late 2013)

8 or 16gb of ram? the 16gb ram feels? I can feel the difference? speed? performance? worth the money?

$150 is to much?

You should be pissed even if it does work. $150 for 16GB is at least $51 too much!

I've go 1600MHz at work, I'll test it tomorrow in my 13" i5.

I know this is old, but thats the exact reason I need to ask this question. You said 16GB for $150 is $51 to much in 2012. It's now the end 2013 I'm getting ready to buy 16GB for my early 2011 13" MBP. $150 is all I can find it for.. I've checked Amazon and some various sites. Where would I possibly find it cheaper?

I ordered the gskill from newegg As well waiting for it to arrive. But honestly until we get some major updates I think 16gb is necessary, my computer is constantly laggy and using way more power/battery than it use to with mavericks. I have 8gb ram now from owc on ML it was blazing fast now this thing seems like old technology, it's just the os, the memory management isn't working for me they need to fix it or go back to the old way .

Now if I have safari, notes, messages, preview, and finder open I am like maxed out if I open another application it's like they take forever or I have to force quit. It's crazy
