Update on my 6/11 order
Finally shipped. Got an email from Apple Saturday morning at 10ish central time. Missed FedEx cutoff and finally hit the air today. Estimated delivery July 6th by 10:30am.
2.6/8/512 ordered at 8:15 PM Central.(Minneapolis)
Went to preparing on 6/25.
Ship notification 6/30
Flew out of Shanghai 7/2/11 at 12:37AM.
Seems like the ultimates and stock 2.6 systems are the last to ship. Another reason I should have went with 16 GB.
At least its on the way.

I'm thinking it would be sent to LAX by plain. As stated before, I paid and never asked for a refund on expedited shipping that guarantees a 2-3 day delivery from the date it is sent out. I would be shocked if my package was put on a truck for a 1800 mile drive.
Almost immediately. Changed to "preparing" at 7pm, tracker shows it leaving the airport just after 9pm.
Yeah, definitely thinking that's the case. Curious why we both got economy shipping though. When did you order? I ordered the 23rd, so I think that it's people who ordered before a certain date all got priority shipping.
I'm sorta of the opposite, at least when it comes to actually doing the shipping. I find UPS to be more reliable and cheaper (domestic packages), and there's a reason for this. UPS is a consolidated company while FedEx is really an intricate network of subcontractors and franchises.
With that said, it's shaping up that mine may come a day early. It JUST landed at my local hub and it is scheduled for Tuesday delivery. The only thing that could delay it at this point is a mandatory you're-not-scheduled-for-delivery-today hold, which happens sometimes.

Mine departed Memphis at 4:40 pm on Friday and hasn't updated since. It's supposed to be delivered tomorrow by 10:30 am, but i'm getting a little nervous now.
Mine now says "Preparing for Shipment" (not Prepared)... Hoping it ships soon!

It never says prepared. Look at the list of possible "states" and explanations for each given on the order status page. The next stage is shipped.
Yes, even I ordered the same configuration and on the same date... On education store! Still says processing
I orded mine on the same date as well, still processing ;( apple should've stocked more I'm to impatient.
I need some sympathy. I dropped by a local Apple store after a show this afternoon and the guy at the door said that he hasn't seen the rMBP 2.7 w/ 16GB RAM - so I roamed the store and then was purchasing the MagSafe convertor. I noticed the guy ringing me up was a manger so I asked him about the same computer. He did some checking and then came back to tell me that they had one unit they sold an hour ago! I am so bummed - if I had stopped at the store on my way to the theatre I would be a proud owner and canceling my online order. Lesson learned - don't believe the guy at the door! Now I keep watching my online order! :-( July 9 can't come soon enough!
