Hello All,

I need a bit of advise. I have a MacBook Pro 2017. I want to use my iMac 2015 as a monitor for my MacBook Pro. Can anyone tell me which cable I will need.

So far from my research I have worked out that I can purchase this "USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter" link below, but I don't know what type of USB cable I will need to go into the iMac. So I think I will need 2 cables the "USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter" and another standard USB cable. If it can be done with one cable please let me know. If you know of a cheap or easy way of doing this then please help?

Thank you.

Not an answer to your question but it would be easier just to buy a similar monitor as they're pretty cheap now. I looked to do the same thing but why would you want to boot up a computer to an operating system just to use as a display?

Its for someone close to me, and for some silly reason this is what she wants to do. Thanks for responding.

I think you need Target Display Mode and the 2015 iMac does not support it.

Yes, the 2015 iMac is too new...
Target Display mode is supported on mid-2014 iMacs, but none newer. The mode was dropped when Apple released the retina displays on iMacs.
