One thing youll notice about our friend there is that he will pick up and use others peoples views if they are "proven" enough to him. No offense to him, it shows open mindedness, but unfortunatly it also leads to him sometimes repeatedly buying into things and supporting them as fact.

I believe he got the idea in the brick thread. Someone mentioned that the brick could represent 16:9 so he took it and ran with it.

Sometimes though it is good to come up with your own thoughts/ideas or others will peg you as a mindless robot who just repeats things.

If they make a 16",, chances are it would be 1920x1080 since dell's display in their upcoming 16x9 notebook is that size

I would need to see it in person, but I think the 1600 x 900 might be better - at least on my eyes - for reading/writing text. Wouldn't 1920 x 1080 shrink the pixel pitch to such an extent that it would make reading/writing text for a long period of time uncomfortable?

I have my reasons.
I will laugh at you guys who doubt/dislike 16:9 ratio when the new 16:9 ratio Macs will come.

Dude, you're pretty invested in 16:9, without that particular ratio having any tangible functional advantages for the user the MBP is targeted at.

I will laugh at you tonight while I'm drinking delicious whiskey, and thinking about how much better whiskey is than aspect-ratios.

This thing looks super thin. Using photoshop and some quick ratios, I came up with this (note: rough numbers):

macbookthickness.jpg

Then again, will it be tapered like the air?

It will then be a wedge and not a brick... :)

Okay I'll post real pics when I ever get a good source (like my friend's cousin who works at Apple in Cupertino that works on the OS X gui doing the drop down menus and what not. I know he is not lying.). But this pic doesn't bode very well with the rumors of an all aluminum brick. It's not a single piece.

the mbp looks to be much thinner then the current one. Looking at that pic, the envy, and the current mbp. I kinda get the feeling it is going to be in between the air and the envy in thickness. If thats the case those things you see that looks like speakers may be air holes.

So.

From the picture (right to left) there appears to be a headphone jack, a mic jack?, a what? Firewire port? 2 usb's and a suspiciously square port. Modem? then a really large rectangular hole. DVI? Almost looks too wide to be a NIC port yet probably too small for a DVI. Power? Nah.

Interesting. It looks more stamped. If you look at the new keyboards, they look stamped. Stamped would be cheaper than machining as you could do all the holes in one plain at the same time.

So, if this is a new MacBook Pro, then people who hate the new keyboard should run out and snap up the MacBook Pros that are left, if any...

I'm not fond of the new keyboard but have gotten used to it after my original one died...

Why no number pad and inverted 'T' on the wireless version? Interesting. I know people that would but a wired version that had the same layout as the wireless version. They'd use it on a peecee but hey, crossover is good, right?

Could be, but the grilles look to be too wide for a standard MB in any case. Airholes, or speaker holes, I'd sat it's an MBP case.

Does anyone else feel like we're all sitting around UFO spotting? "..no... the lights were PROPULSION SYSTEMS, not TELEPORTERS!!!"

Joining this board has been seriously destructive to my mental health :D

I vote for post of the day! :D

I'm curious, since no-one seems to bring it up (or at least infrequently), is there ANY real appetite for the existing machines? Quite literally the only reason that I'm on this forum, and not in front of a new MBP getting work done, is the issue with the nVidia 8600. It would seem to me that anyone that's done 5 minutes of research would be extremely wary...

The nVidia 8600 is what's keeping me hostage to the release of the updated machine... anyone else?

Um, definitely not a modem. Internal modems haven't been included since G4's.

Thus the idea of "brick" or more solid pieces and fewer screws. Should help the weight out a bit as well since they're using fewer screws.

I have an 8600 Penryn and i've had problems as of late. I am hoping to get a replacement when the new ones come out. If you're going to have major problems like that, they have a high incidence of happening within that first 3 years. I encourage anyone with an 8600 to buy applecare.

Why don't they ever take a photo of the whole thing?
And in most photos like these they always seem to take the photo with a bad camera phone... i wonder why that is?
It dose look promising though, and i am wondering if they will have a keynote to introduce these new macbook's? or they will announce them some other time or they will just release them and advertise them on their website?
Its only 5 more nights until tuesday the 14th and Apple hasn't said one word!

So..compare pictures? Smaller holes, easier to keep clean looks much better. New one does seem a bit wider, unless is just an illusion. 16:9 anyone? You can definitely see the seam on the current MBP vs the new one. New one is one piece.

The edge of the last keys aligns to the gap for the hinge on both
model.

It's funny looking at the current model and how tiny the track pad seems.

I couldn't agree more - 16:9 is useful for one thing: movies. ...

Who gives a crap about minor letterboxing on a laptop screen? Some people, obviously, but I can't fathom why.

Right - since BD/DVD movies are almost always wider than 16:9, you'll still have letter-boxing on a 16:9 display.

To 16:9 dislikers, what are you going to do when the new Macs are 16:9 ratio?

Buy Dell/Lenovo/Sony/Toshiba/HP and other laptops which are designed for function, not style. The Lord God Jobs' obsession with thinness and style are causing serious compromises in the usability and usefulness of Apple laptops.

Make him stop!

9to5 mac just took down a post that stated the pics were a fake

Good - 16:10 is saved.

New Macbook Photos...

Ok... this is my first post (althought I have been watching for a year!) but I did find something of interest that is definately not the macbook pro posted earlier (notice the lack of the large MBP speakers). This is also definitely not the current macbook (note the different orientation of the symbols that indicate the headphone and mic jack).

I think this is the new macbook for sure and the other pictures everyone has been commenting about is the new MBP. I sure hope I am right on this one... Let me know your thoughts!

Also...

Also, note that the ports are different. I really think this is the new macbook. Maybe this guy stole the case? Now we see the other side and the full top at least!

:)
