If, in fact, the case is aluminum, I'm really interested to see if the case is carved out of a single billet of AL, or if the raw case is a casting that is then refined with the laser and/or waterjet. Carving a billet would leave a lot of waste, and while they could recycle, it seems to me that would not be the most economical way to go.

hrmm. thinking of the glass trackpads, and the iphone esque ideas, why not remove the built in track altogether, and leave it with an open slot as a docking station for either ipod or itouch?

ie: dock your phone where the trackpad would be, and use it for the touchpad when using the laptop. Built in mic/speakers work if recieving a call while computing...

also, abilty to remove the phone from the doc, and take your your laptops contact/dayplanner/other syncables with you on the road.

cool idea, ;)

As others have said I do not think this would fly due to the added expense of picking up an iPhone or touch but...

...if they could somehow make it a special release I would jump all over it. Dock my iPhone (or touch) so it could sync and charge while the screen becomes the track pad. Should I receive a phone call or text it displays in landscape view and I can either answer/reply or ignore and continue with my work on the notebook.

Probably a little too novelty at this point but I would jump all over an idea such as this.

I do agree with what you say.....HOWEVER...looking at it from a business perspective, Apple would benefit from this because most consumers are buying 16:9 TV's and believe that this is high-tech....it fits within the "media" side of APPLE....AND...fits with consumers when they compare models from the competition

The screen ratio in comparison to a TV that's bought doesn't matter, so long as the computer can output 16:9 resolutions over the video out to the TV.

Hey 16:9 vs 16:10 debate is part of the discussion about this new casing. Anyways, wth, you really think they're going to "carve/mill" an entire case out of a solid alu block? It was ridiculous when 9to5 posted it, and it's ridiculous now.

Sorry, I wasn't knocking the debate. I just can't see how a discussion about screen size relates to a photo which doesn't even include the screen. I am sure there is a good reason why everyone's talking about it, I'm just too tired to search for it ;)

I don't 'really think' they are going to 'carve/mill' an entire case out of a solid block, no. That's what I'm questioning. I thought this article was referring to that rumor, hence my point about this NOT appearing to bear this rumor out.

Anywho, I wasn't looking to fall out about it. I was just making an observation that possibly this discussion has diverted away from its original intent - to decide if this image is real, and if so if this 'brick' rumor us true :)

would be great if the new macbook pro looks quietly similar to this one :

(just forget the stupid screen-glass trackpad and the black bezel)

would look great but it seems like your palms would interfere with the bottom touch screen. Maybe instead of it taking up the entire bottom it would just be the size of the iPhone and iPod Touch screen. (also a lot cheaper to produce with a smaller second screen)

AGREED...but the average consumer...does not know that....or care...

so is this new process being used in apple supplier factories? must be, right? since apple doesn't seem to have its own facilities right now

I understood that Apple was doing this whole thing themselves. How could there be a reliable leak whne Apple is running the factories? Maybe I was mistaken.

I got the site up finally but I cannot find the thread with the pic. I did find some threads how ever linking to here.:D

And 1,000x better on battery life!!! lol
Is anyone else concerned about the battery life if a lit trackpad is incorporated? Especially if an internal battery becomes the norm..

My best guess is that new macbook is made in USA and assembled in China.

fAke. Fake. FAKE!

Actually, it looks like we'll get an ergonomically smooth front edge to rest our hands while typing. Everything sliding in from the bottom could make modifications easier (but then again we have the iPhone).

I think an important issue that hasn't been discussed here is BATTERY LIFE.

I kinda want more than 3-5 hours at a time. Why not 6-8? I believe it's possible with currently technology. Maybe 9 hours without airport/bluetooth.

As for 16:9 vs 16:10...I just sold my mac mini, which I used an HDTV as a monitor for...AND I LOVED IT. I love the 16:9 ratio. I get a better vibe from it than I do a 16:10...I've owned 3 apple laptops in 16:10! (wait. the PowerBook 12" was 4:3 wasnt it?) Ok, so 2.

I'm a video editor, graphic and web designer, and I think the overall 'feel' of 16:9 helps people in my field in a subconscious visual way.

I realize that many people are NOT graphic designers, but in the end a MacBook pro is meant to cater to our professional needs (e.g., Video and Audio and Photos). So it may be a good idea to keep the MacBook 16:10, but a 16:9 MacBook PRO is very welcomed by myself and many other professionals.

Most video editors I know or have heard of buy an HDTV to watch their footage on because their computer screens aren't the proper ratio. Of course there are many arguments against 16:9 that I do agree with, but there are not enough to make me change my mind about it now that I have experienced it for myself.

I vote 16:9.

Anybody give thought to the possibility that the "brick" form factor might be used to come out with swivel touch screens. Looks like the square form factor will make the screen sit flush with the body in tablet mode...

Congrats- you win!

+1, if they can squeeze more battery life out of ipods using the same power technology, I don't see why it can't be done for portables. They're using the same battery technology. Maybe they're afraid to move onto anything else since the bugs just got worked out of Li-Poly/Ion

Maybe?

Photo looks real enough for me to believe but I don't think that is a MBP I think that is the MB. It also looks like what ever it is it will have the current macbook keyboard (which I don't mind since it all I've known). I am looking forward to new MBP's because I would like to upgrade. I too am hoping for 16x9 or widescreen whichever you perfer to call it.

Can't wait!

That looks pretty neat, but ergonomically it doesnt make sense for the edges to go up like that. In fact, I think it would be silly, because the bottom would rock back and forth if you put your arm on the one side and off the other.

I agree, i think it looks more like a bigger screened MB than MBP, but tell me, lol (laughing at myself over this obsession to know), why do you prefer 16x9 ??
