It's always sick how situations like this expose how angry and miserable some Mac users can be. The guy didn't blame anyone, he was honest about his situation and shared it with us. But the way some people react then you'd think he came in here blaming Apple for throwing rocks at his computer and then proceeded to drop kick their grandmother.

As for the glass trackpad then I'm on the side that really doesn't get the reasoning (yet). The old trackpads worked just fine and adding gestures wasn't something specific to "only" a glass pad, so if they didn't add something neat like a screen under it then putting glass here is bound to cause problems for some people. Sure, we should all be careful but sometimes stuff happens.

why would a company pay to repair something that was damaged through no fault or cause of their own.

you will be paying for it out of pocket.

does applecare look after some of these things?

umm, yeah, so I'm now one of those tools that posts "ZOMG I JUST SPILLED COFFEE ON MY NEWWW MACBOOK!!!!1!!"

:-(

It was seriously a freak accident and definitely one of the most fail moments of my life. I baby this thing like it's my own child; apparently I need to get a bulletproof case for it, though.

I expect Apple to replace it free of charge because it was an accident, and not a result of abuse. If they want to charge me $300 I will cut a bitch.

Just need to take it in to find out...

This shall be remembered as "Bad Idea #2."

For reference to Bad Idea #1, please see the first post in this thread.

Hey i'm not mad at this guy. I've seriously been laughing for the past 10 minutes. Yeah, he was honest about the situation-the part where he was on his bed and something from above fell on top of the trackpad , probably damaging a little more than the glass. The truley funny thing is that he demands that Apple repair the damage on the grounds that "**** happens," utilizing a warrenty that covers factory defects only. The manufactuers limited warrenty is 1000x different than a full coverage warrenty that I currently enjoy and must pay a premium for.

And there I go, I can't stop laughing again.

Funniest thing I have read this year. You really think they should pay for something YOU broke. Maybe I can take my car into to get my windshield replaced for free if a rock hits it.

I think you missed the part where he said he expected Apple to replace his trackpad (which he broke) free of charge, or he'd "cut a bitch."

Yeah, so, not so much feeling sympathy for his lame plea to get his mistake fixed free. I think of it more like giving him a realistic heads up so he doesn't go down to the Apple store, get angry when they tell him to GTFO, and take it out on some employees trying to do their job.

I'd imagine it'd look something like this:

trackpad_fail.jpg

Whoever owns that doesn't look after it very well. It looks in such bad condition and can't be that old!!

The guy didn't blame anyone

Nah he's just gonna "cut a bitch" if Apple doesn't assume the responsiblity for his mistake.

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Affirmative.

if the trackpad is actual glass, why not have it clear? I think that would be the ****... off topic I know

There is a chance they will repair it, but I wouldn't count on that. Personally I think it would look cool to put one of those clear protective skins on the trackpad and have the crack exposed, at least that's what I'd do if I were in your shoes and Apple didn't repair it.

It doesn't mean you'd be able to see through whatever the glass trackpad sits on top of.

Why not?

Its glass so assuming its not frosted for some reason you would see whatever is under there.

The G3 iBooks' cases were clear plastic, painted on the inside, so when you stripped the paint you got to see all the cool computer guts.

Lol kinda bad example... most car insurance I have had does do free windshield replacement.

Um... I was pointing out that it was a bad example. Not entirely sure where I said it was insurance? I'm very well aware of what AppleCare is, but thanks for jumpin in there and clearin that up for everyone smart guy.

You mentioned car _insurance_ fixing a windshield for _free_.

The windshield example is a perfect example.

I feel for ya. Sorry. But if Apple covered accidents they'd be out of business. If you drop your computer, slip on the ice, knock it off the shelf, spill coffee all over it, that's not Apple's fault. They should not cover it. No one would cover that. If you knock your flatscreen tv off the shelf, Best Buy isn't going to cover it. I'd suggest going in with the expectation that it was your accident, not Apple's. But I seriously do feel your pain. I treat my powerbook like it's made of glass, and I'd be unhappy right now. They'll fix it. Hope it's not too painful financially. Good luck.

OK.... The poster I was referring to said sarcastically that if a rock hits your windshield then your car insurance should replace it for free. As in sarcasm, as in they would not do that for free. Thats what I got out of it anyways. All I said was that is a bad example because what they were referring to with sarcasm was actually true. Car insurance will replace your windshield for free, no deductible. Nowhere did I tie applecare into this, all I was doing was talking about his specific post. Sorry if this somehow got people confused. As stated on here by numerous other people... applecare is not insurance.
