Yeah I know that, been using Fan Control 1.2 but decided to check how the MBP would behave without it, so uninstalled. Was just wondering if this behaviour is normal.

After I installed the last update...Itunes and something else, my fans work properly now. Once the Temp hits 76-78 degrees...the fans start to move higher..........i was watching videos over a long period of time and the fans got up to 4000 to keep the temp around 70-72 degrees. This was in bed....so, it was not a flat surface.

Why don't you guys try using fancontrol2 and setting default profiles to run the unit at?

That might definitely do the trick in solving the untouchable hot macs.

whats a safe fanspeed for my MBP?
recently ive noticed it being very loud and reaching over 3000rpm which has never happened before

I think you guys should re-do the thermal paste again. Apple's thermal paste hasn't been keen at all with the past systems and certainly not even right now with the newer systems.

I redid my thermal paste, properly this time and my temps never reach above 95 deg C. I constantly do "Folding@home" on this 17" macbook pro so having folding running nearly 24/7 for a week and the system never reaching above 95 deg C is amazing. Its not in a freezer either, its just in my room with very low air flow (hottest room in the house)
