MacBook Pro Late 2016 EU shipping

Okay, I thought it would be fun to compute the number of options! We have four base SKUs (13" base, upgraded; 15" base, upgraded). From there, there are loads of combinations. Here is the maths for just what is available on the UK store:
  • 13" 1: 2 colours, 3 processors, 2 RAM, 1 storage, 19 keyboards, 2 Final Cut, 2 Logic Pro = 2 x 3 x 2 x 1 x 19 x 2 x 2 = 912
  • 13" 2: 2 colours, 3 processors, 2 RAM, 2 storage, 19 keyboards, 2 Final Cut, 2 Logic Pro = 2 x 3 x 2 x 2 x 19 x 2 x 2 = 1824
  • 15" 1: 2 colours, 2 processors, 1 RAM, 4 storage, 2 graphics, 19 keyboards, 2 Final Cut, 2 Logic Pro = 2 x 2 x 1 x 4 x 2 x 19 x 2 x 2 = 2432
  • 15" 2: 2 colours, 2 processors, 1 RAM, 3 storage, 2 graphics, 19 keyboards, 2 Final Cut, 2 Logic Pro = 2 x 2 x 1 x 3 x 2 x 19 x 2 x 2 = 1824
Which is a grand total of 6992 combinations!!!

Yeah, they're coming from China! Unless they were built to order, and then shipped here without us knowing.

(Disclaimer: it's late and I'm not very good at maths. If I have made a catastrophic error in this calculation please let me know! :p )
In the 15" configs there are some that are overlapping between the two though...

Well I'm in the 3-4wk tranche so still at Processing, but am delighted that the 2-3wk folk now look like they have traction on their orders. I'm also kinda hoping that this may mean the 2nd tranche will follow quite quickly, rather than waiting nearly 2 weeks as there wouldn't be a ton of logic in waiting for 1 or 2 weeks before 'releasing' the next batch.

Could be wishful thinking but hey

Interestingly when you choose the same spec starting with the base and with the upgraded, they are different part numbers! So same product, but different SKU.

I'm not sure: is the software (FCP/LP) preinstalled or appstore download? That would make /4.

PREPARING FOR SHIPPING

Looking at how fast it went in the US, I might start hoping for a delivery this week!

I was hoping someone would have a go at calculating the number - good work :) although I think the software install bit isn't valid, as will be MAS download most probably.

Hadn't thought about the keyboards, but is it that unlikely that they would produce some of each permutation for each keyboard? Taking out the software this is probably closer to 1500 permutations, sounds a big number but if they know they definitely get a certain number of orders for each keyboard then why not? They must know from past sales data what ratio they sell the various keyboards layouts in, then multiply that by there projected '1st batch' sales & they have a forecast for each BTO option per keyboard. If they predict wrong they just sit there until someone next buys that exact config, but I'm guessing they're pretty good at forecasting demand.

Just seems that producing tens of thousands of laptops from a standing start post-keynote is not very efficient.

Guess we'll never know - but cool thought exercise. Thanks for adding some actual calculations to the mix, much more interesting :)

UK 13" BTO preparing for dispatch. Ordered within an hour of keynote, charged friday, and "Delivers 17 Nov - 24 Nov by Standard Shipping"

Anyone think there's any chance them coming on the 16th the U.K.? Assuming @davidjearly DHL delivery is the MacBook (not a dongle) then I guess it's possible? Could get from Germany to U.K. Easily in this time... Its possible orders don't get "dispatched" until the morning they arrive...??

Wouldn't that be nice! However my local UPS and DHL often have 'out for delivery' scans as early as 5AM so they've got three hours if that is the case.

I still don't know what to make of @davidjearly's DHL notification.
