Also check out this post. Craig replied to my email directly. #59 :)

I doubt that it is him. I think they have one public account that assistants read and then one internal account.

In all the screenshots of Craig emails his signature has a typo small 'c'. His real email account probably has no typo and has full signature. Small 'c' probably means assistant is answering.

Wrong, 12.1 did bring 120Hz Promotion scrolling for Safari and all 3rd party apps (Chrome, Firefox, etc). Just use Quartz debug or the 240fps slomo camera of your iPhone to measure it.

The 12.2 update might reduce some lag on some websites but it’s definitely not a “new” thing now.
I just used the slomo camera on my iPhone. It clearly is not 120 Hz Promotion on my MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro.

What is ProMotion?

Motion with Pro attached. Apple thinks non-Pros do not deserve 'the good motion'.

Dynamically updating refresh rate, from 10-120 Hz refresh rate is what they call ProMotion. On Macs, the lower figure is higher.

Apple stay marketing their stuff like they want ahah.

this is why people going into the Apple Store have no idea about what they're getting when they get into upsell zone

I don’t think it was his assistant. Why would his assistant reply to my email about his system being shut down or put to sleep? Also, I did a little research for him. I’m 100% sure it’s him.

Well it eaither works or it doesn’t, and with 12.1 it didn’t work it was not smooth which pro motion is all about so I was right, there’s no in between either it’s smooth or it’s not

12.1 did have very subtle improvements, but was still pretty bad with a stutter/lag at the end of a scroll. Can confirm it's iPad Pro-like smoothness in the 12.2 beta. Night and day, even between 12.1 and 12.2.

After the update to 12.1 Safari seemed slightly better but still jittered when scrolling. Friend at work told me to disable Live Text in language settings as it was slowing down their Mac. After turning Live Text off Safari scrolling is smooth as butter with no lag and this is on 12.1

Hope Safari is smoother than this ridiculous convoluted self-aggrandizing thread.
Pretty sure it is. Just check this post out. Check out the video. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

anyone else have a bug where safari bugs out and only loads half the webpage, especially in google searches? this has been happening since big sur for me. back to chrome for me i guess

Emails to CEOs and VPs likely get filtered based on what you type so that emails with keywords like 'Safari scrolling bug' will probably go to an assistant in Safari department.

If you sent something important they email you back with 'craig' signature about it and sometimes that can be Federighi and sometimes it can be someone else. I can't imagine one VP seeing emails from the whole world every day.

Yeah, I'm also curious about that. Anyone have an idea?

To be honest, safari feels like the smoothest now. All browsers use 120hz promotion, but Safari feels the smoothest as of 12.2. In 12.1, chrome felt the smoothest to me.

It’s a problem with the Testufo website.

Testufo cannot recognise Safari running at 120Hz. It reports the same on iPhone 13 Pros & iPad Pro’s with ProMotion.

However, it USED to report the correct refresh rate in Safari on macOS. But not anymore.
When I used the "hack" from a couple weeks ago, the UFO site showed 120hz on safari. 12.2 doesn't feel any smoother than 12.1, I don't know what all the fuss is about. Still 100% not 120hz, no where near as smooth as on iPad Pro or phone 13 pro.

Anyone test this out with a non-M1 Mac connected to an external 120Hz display?
A big problem on non-M1 macs is that limited GPU VRAM constrains performance.
I have plenty of DRAM on my iMac Pro, but "only" 8GB of VRAM and if you have hundreds of Safari windows and tabs open, you are constantly operating at the edge of the VRAM being 100% occupied. You can tell when you go over -- oh boy can you tell! But even when you haven't quite gone over the cliff, with the absolute massive slowdown that engenders, close to the edge you give up all nice frills like smooth scrolling.
So if you are testing this, be careful that you test under conditions where VRAM is not extremely loaded.

This is one of those under-rated advantages of M1; by ending the distinction between VRAM and DRAM you avoid these cases where your machine feels slow simply because of lack of VRAM.

It is though. Also it wont ever be "as smooth" because the new macbooks have a ton of ghosting due to the response rate of the display.

And more bugs - Invert Colors does not invert! Says it has inverted but the display simply turns off True Tone and stays in regular color mode.
