Tell your relative to buy it from Amazon.com and not pay any tax.

That's the way to go; however, it might not be possible if his relative is just visiting the USA and doesn't have a valid US address and/or US-based payment credentials.

I think an updated MacBook air, lion and some details about iLife and iWork updates are a given, but i do not think thAt a new mbp will be updates, April is a little too soon

She does not live in the USA. She is visiting a friend ,who lives there, so if they are together ,then they will be able to purchase from Amazon, right?:)

Amazon is making discount on the 15' i7 2,66ghz MBP, its only 2050$ ,not 2200$... :D
If you order it in the next 5 hours :D

There may be some updates on 20th...

Tell your relative to find a college student and buy from a college store. Will save you $100-$200 depending on the model.

correct. People who aren't used to ordering from them may not realize that.

What does that mean?

Are there college stores,or what? Isn't it enough if a college student just goes to a normal store?

Hey guys ! I'm back.
I'd like to clear something about Amazon.. :)

So if I order a MBP from amazon (to an American address), will i be charged with the local sales tax. ?

What does that mean?

It means that B&H Photo is closed every Saturday as well as major Jewish holidays. Online store as well as brick & mortar in New York.

Yes, and yes. Degrees of proof of being a student may vary; especially if you go to a university store and aren't a student at that university.

I'm guessing you can't view Amazon's US site, else you'd have looked this up yourself.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468512

"Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax."

So items shipped to Florida would likely avoid sales tax.

That term never specifies "sales tax", just "tax". I'm in Massachusetts, which isn't on that list, and I paid sales tax with online shopping. So did someone I know in Virginia, who's also not on that list.

Interesting. I've never paid sales tax from Amazon to Georgia, so I googled for that link.

Do you have any links giving better info for the states in which Amazon charges sales tax?

Thanks guys! But.. I'd have another question:eek: :D

So...I will order an MBP from Amazon.
Is it a problem if the Shipping Address is different from my Billing Address(on my credit card)?
Because I live in Hungary and I would like to have it shipped to my relative in Florida,so the 2 addresses are not the same.
Will it work,or I should send it as a gift?Or what should I do?

P.S what will happen to the bill? it will be sent to my billing address, or shipping address?

Those states are only if your ordering from amazon not from a third party. Policies differ depending what company you order from on amazon.

Okay, and any suggestions about my question about Amazon?

What does that mean?

Most US stores are open on Saturdays, B&H is not; so someone may expect to be able to order from them, or visit their store in NY, on a Saturday and find they are closed. Someone visiting the US and planning to order from them needs to be aware of that and plan accordingly.

I can highly recommend them; I've bought camera gear from them and they have great prices and services.

They, like Chick-Fil-A, follow their religious beliefs and close on the Sabbath and major holidays, a practice I find commendable and respect them for.

Yes and Yes - most schools have a bookstore that sells computers; Apple sells at the educational price in their stores and Best Buy will match the Apple educational price (at least at the BB I've bought stuff at.)

Hey guys!
For my question I will need some of you who live in the USA.Or Some of you who know a lot about taxes ;)

I live in Europe, but one of my relatives is now in Florida, and she offered me that she would buy me a macbook pro.And I've looked them up in "apple.com",but I was told that the price does not contain TAX.

I know that "sales tax" in Florida is 6%, but websites are talking about something more, which is called "surtax",but I do not kow what it is...
So I would really like to know how much the full tax % is in Flordia for a Macbook Pro.

Because it is not the same if I have to multiply the amount by 6% or 9%.

Another quieston is the following:
The Macbook pro 15' 2,4ghz i5 is 1799$
The Macbook pro 15' 2,66ghz i7 (more hard drive, and 512mb video card ram) is 2199$

The difference is 400$. Is it worth it?

I need everyone who can help me :)

Thank you!

Thank you!
I don't know about Florida, but if you have a friend in the Boston area, you can get your MBP TAX FREE in New Hampshire. There are 2 Apple stores on the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border. While we live in New York (a tax death pit), we often drive to Maine and as such, when I decided to buy my first Mac, I didn't want to pay the HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN SALES TAX. So we drove just 3 miles out of our way and bought the MBP, Apple Care, iWorks, and Apple One-to-One TAX FREE!!

I certainly think that your saving $400 is worth it. 3 states with Apple stores have no sales tax—New Hampshire, Delaware and Oregon. I hope you can find someone near these states who can help you.

—————

The other states with no sales tax are Montana and Alaska. So with those 2 states, along with the 3 states mentioned above, if you know someone who can go to any electronics store in those 5 sales tax free states that sells MPB, you'll be in luck!

B&H's service is awful if you want to buy a laptop. I wasn't sure which laptop I wanted to buy so I went to B&H and found that whatever sales people were on the floor totally ignored me. They were chatting amongst themselves. So much for the strategy of going to B&H during what I thought would be a quiet time in the store with plenty of sales help. Sure it was quiet; so the employees did nothing to assist. Maybe they're good in the camera department but in the high ticket areas, forget about it. Service is something you WON'T find at B&H if you're looking to buy a PC or a Mac. They wouldn't even let you use the laptops on display. At least you can at Best Buy. But I thought that B&H would offer the service you can't find at a chain electronics store. Not the case at all.

Avoid B&H unless you're there solely for the sales they have on cameras, TVs, etc. Then just get what you want and leave. But to go for service? Yeah, that's like visiting New York for the sole purpose of swimming in the crystal-clean East River. :D

Those of you who are shocked that B&H closes early on winter Fridays and is closed on Saturdays, what, you've never shopped in an Orthodox Jewish family-owned business before?? A bit surprising....
