It never ceases to amaze me what people will do to keep Apple in the "news".

Flippin absurd. The next thing will be getting the bookies in Vegas involved.

It's getting embarrassing to be a Mac user.

And to think the masses here actually think this is cool.

How about losers being Mac users who are hoping for BLU-RAY????
Why get into personal insults just because you don't agree with other people? I think its Apple's loss not to put one of those blu-ray drive in their macbook lineup, download is not ready just yet and physical media is still not dead just yet.

Just picked one up...still has stickers in the box... :)

We have purchased three macbook pros in 4 years and we have gotten stickers in each box.

I do too...very nice machine. I haven't touched a Mac since 2003 though - the OS feels very weird after using nothing but Windows for the last 8 years. My fingers keep wanting to click buttons that aren't there... :)

LOL! I am having a few issues getting used to NO buttons after having a single button. I need to stop using my thumb. But when I work on site I want my track pad and two finger context menus back.

Perfect Blend of New & Old Ports (if true)

I am all for the new I/O port but it will take time for peripherals to transition. So if this "rumor" is true then we have the best of both worlds!!! :D

I'm glad the rumors worked out exactly like they did. The new processors are great. The same old unibody case is spactacular and needs no change. The OS on SSD/HDD rumor sounded like a techy fanboy's (wet) dream but also sounds like a potential, complicated mess. Everything on one drive of my choice is still the preferred way to go. Simple is good.

Yeah for keeping the optical drive. I use mine a couple of times a week. The WD 750GB 7K Black drive in my MBP is plenty big.

The Light Peak rumors turned out correct except that the new name sounds really stupid but it doesn't screw up anything else on the unit while we're all waiting for TB external boxes.

I could have personally done without the optical drive but it's fine that it was included in my purchase. All my professional level software is maintained by subscription over the internet and I have everything I need on my NAS. I

You know who the real winner was? This guy.

I think I will name this one the ThunderBook.

While mine hasn't arrived in the mail yet (BTO hi-res and SSD), I did get to play with one at Best Buy today, and let me tell you, they are BEASTLY machines. iTunes, AppStore, Mail, Safari, iPhoto, and Pages all opened in 1-2 seconds. I know some of you high-end iMac and Mac Pro owners are probably used to this by now, but I was blown away, and this system didn't even have an SSD and mine will!

I gotta admit, the rumor mill was annoying until about a week ago and then it was super-exciting to follow, though all of the news from places like CNET was fun too. Fun refresh to follow. I'm hoping we'll see some equally interesting developments with the iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook refreshes.

Random thought: I wonder when thunderbolt will replace USB on the MBPs and instead of having one thunderbolt and two USB ports, there are three thunderbolt ports?

True

I got a 17" today at best buy, so i guess Best Buy is not a reliable source. So far so good and I didn't have to pay $1 for the face time app. I know this might be out of topic, but since this is my first mac I'm going to ask anyways. Should I use Bootcamp, parallels, or vm fusion (don't know with is better, I need to install Ubuntu Server for my Linux class). Thanks.

I still think the Intel mockup would really rock.

If the updated specs would have come with that design I would be typing on a newly released high end 15'' now, not on a 2006 MBP CD : ).

i predict next gen macbook pros will be redesigned, will use an ssd (either for os or a big one, dunno), retina display (yes that's right, retina), will be thinner (A LOT thinner if they dump odd, which i dont think they will just yet). aaand thats all folks. and a well-made driver for intel HD3000 so it can outperform 320m easily. (the 13" wont get a discrete gpu until they drop the odd, y know that already...)

well if you consider the new 13" costs the same as the old 13" and only has a different cpu (well, gpu too, they go together :/) and a thunderbolt port, it must cost a lot :p but we'll some day see a macbook with 3 TB ports , or at least i hope.

I think the SSD rumour was anti-Apple PR. When I heard that rumour, I was really excited about the possibilities it offered - fast boot, fast operation, low energy use = extended battery life. A proper new technology and step change, not just slightly improved specs.

When I saw the actual specs, my first emotion was disappointment. Had I never read the SSD rumour, my first emotion would have been some sort of warm fuzzy feeling. First impressions are critical. I'm still going to get one, because the wife's laptop is ancient, but I think there will be many who decided "yes if it has the SSD I'll get it" who will now take a pass.

Don't get me wrong. i am going to buy an alienware or Vaio laptop because apple wont do blu-ray.

so... apple wont get my $$$$

Many presumed the Pro would fall in line w/ the Air (by having SSD) since Steve Jobs claimed the MacBook Air would be 'The future of laptops'.
