And so the absolute disgraceful launch tactics of Apple continue. Produce minimum stock, announce, delay delivery by 2 weeks on the first day and build up demand.

Happens with every single product they have launched since Angela started.

So what you're saying is Apple should've delayed the laptops even more. The laptops I've heard nothing but complaints about for months because they took a long time to refresh? That's your solution? No thanks.

It apparently seems to work, except to completely piss off all the customers who didn't manage to order within the first hour..... Well done Apple.

Just another fine reason to lose more customers. it is amazing.

So in your world everyone who wants one has to wait so we can all buy together on day 1 without delays? Why? Why can't some people get them earlier than others? Why should everyone wait?

Specs are the means, user experience is the end.

The primary reason why I invest in Apple products is because while they may cost more upfront, I find that they more than pay for themselves in the form of greater productivity and fewer problems overall.

It doesn't matter if the competition uses the latest hardware if they aren't able to put them together into a cohesive package which appeals to me. And the latest offerings by Microsoft simply don't resonate with me, much as I will agree that they appear to be engineering marvels.

I have been with Apple long enough to own equipment although still working is now outdated and no longer supported by Apple. We are talking hardware that is only five or six years old. What good is longevity when you cant use it? The current trend to prevent user mods and upgrades while offering hardware that is not current only accelerates obsolescence. With inferior specs comes a faster end. So to speak.

I need to buy my 2 kids (13 and 14) new laptops...my oldest kid (16) has a 2015 13" MBP with an I7 and 16gb and all 3 kids share a 2015 27" 5K Imac. I want to buy the new touchbar models announced yesterday (thinking the base specs with I5 processor but with 16gb). As for your comment on slashing process by "mid-cycle", I'm not very informed about the pricing cycles. Can you - or anyone tell me when is 'typically' the best time to buy? These 2 new laptops are not Christmas presents but rather just gifts for them to use for school. I mentioned the laptop I bought for my daughter (LY) in hopes that some may comment as to if I should consider duplicating that purchase...It looks as if I can purchase (refurb) 2015 models of the 16gb I7 2015 MBP for the same price as the 16gb I5 2016 touchbar models...in fact I can purchase the base model 15" 2015 MBP for the same price as well). Thanks.

I used somewhat of a hyperbole on the prices; however, stores will certainly be offering various discounts/deals as early as Christmas and later. In December, 2013, I can recall getting ~$300 off a late-2013 15" MBP from BestBuy. I learned Apple Store would have matched that ... or at least would now.

You'll get the best value buying in time for them to get the most use. And the MacBooks will last awhile. Check your credit cards if they offer price protection: in that event, you can save some money if there's any applicable discounts within a certain time period. When I was a kid, I'd spend the next 12 months mowing lawns or whatever else to cover the difference if I wanted to sell and upgrade.

Also, depending on use and the kid (and what kind of bag they carry), the 12" MacBook offers a compelling solution given size and portability. I've been using one for about 4 months since selling a 15" MBP in anticipation of this latest release. It's been much better than expected.

You clearly have zero understanding of how a company, shareholders, board members, and distribution chain works and have instead bought into an inane conspiracy theory. Do you understand if supply does not meet demand that shareholders and board members will beat up the officers as to why that is the case? Do you understand that when supply does not meed demand that actually equates to lost sales? Do you understand that Apple has never stated that they have been sold out (to create artificial demand?) Do you understand that they usually deliver pretty close to their estimated delivery dates, but it's always better to under-promise and deliver early than over-promise and deliver late? The answer is obviously no to all of those questions.

Granted Apple is popular. However, the impression stock is limited is a great way to generate buzz and a "got to have it now" mentality. I can't count the number of times a new product was released and I had to visit several Apple stores and electronics stores trying to find the product in stock. I was told by Best Buy on several occasions Apple limits their stock when a new product is released. I once visited a Best Buy store that was initially given a total of 6 phones for sale.

Thanks for the reply. I think we've decided on the 13" (touch bar model) with base processor (2.9 ghz) and upgrading to 16GB of ram. Most folks tell me going to the I7 is a waste of our money. My kids (all 3) actually started working early. Each of them has national and world titles in martial arts so they earn quite a bit doing demos and teaching...my son also has a tractor and does bush hog work to earn more cash...but this is one purchase I'm going to foot the entire bill - they ar good kids and straight A kids, so to me it's worth 4-5K (depending if I go I5 or I7). Thanks again for the reply.
