Glad I ordered mine early in the day! Here's to hoping those estimates move up like they did for the Jet Black iPhone 7s.

And so the absolute disgraceful launch tactics of Apple continue. Produce minimum stock, announce, delay delivery by 2 weeks on the first day and build up demand.

Happens with every single product they have launched since Angela started.

It apparently seems to work, except to completely piss off all the customers who didn't manage to order within the first hour..... Well done Apple.

Just another fine reason to lose more customers. it is amazing.

Wait, so they are creating demand or losing customers?!?

All depends on how many units they planned to have available?

Its not uncommon for companies to restrict supply to create demand - make it look as though its popular.. so others get on the bandwagon.

Do you have examples of companies that have done so?

2 (4) USB-C ports and a headphone jack?? I was expecting no ports and wireless charging. But for 1,700 $ I'm happy to unearth my old dongles from the storage boxes in my garage. /NOT

Stating the obvious, production has not started yet. We don't know why, though. My idea, they want to see users' reaction and initial demand. They feared they would get burned with this new line of products, so they went conservative. Creating artificial demand could also be an explanation, which was definitely the reason for the long shipping times of iPhones.
I'm not sure it would be a good approach here, though. If someone wants to buy a MBP, they buy it. If not, they don't. You can't try and "seduce" a Mac user who is tossed, making him believe that the new computers are in high demand and therefore cool and necessary. A computer is a production tool, not a fashion gizmo.

Having said that, and going a bit off-topic.
1) On Wednesday, members were laughing at Surface Book's prices. Now that this abomination of MBP is out with the same price tag, I hear them saying "well, it is not that expensive at all, for what it offers". I will probably buy a Surface Book or a Razer Blade Stealth with the Razer Core dock, which, maxed out, costs the same as a 13" MBP with the toolbar.

2) The toolbar is a major mistake, IMHO. I would have rather gone for a "magic pad", with an integrated digitiser to use with the Apple Pencil. That would be a great way of implementing touch-screen functionalities without making the whole screen touchable. Ideal to take notes, sign documents, do minor adjustments, and do the same things that the touchbar is doing (previews, scroll...). I would have paid a premium for that.

3) The irrational choice of ports on is a major problems. As someone has already pointed out, there is not even compatibility between Apple products... TB3 is great, but at this point in time quite useless.

I get where you're coming from. Just feels like Apple aren't connected with their fan base anymore.

Possibly. Time will tell. Basically, it's just a separate, touch sensitive screen that's not integrated with the main screen. It presence pretty much invalidates any previous argument from Apple (and, by extension, their apologists/fanboys) that touch screens on laptops are a Bad Thing.
However, the main problem I see is that it is a feature that is only available on a minority of the laptops (and none of the PCs) from a company that is a minority player in the laptop market. Other than a few flagship applications from Apple (Xcode, FCP, GarageBand, etc.) I can't see many other companies going out of their way to embrace it. It would be nice to be proved wrong though.

15" BTO with Radeon Pro 460 was first 2-3 weeks in Europe (default config was directly at 3-4 weeks) and is now 3-4 weeks. At least some people want these - me included.

Whilst I was a little surprised (and disappointed) at the price point for the top end, specced up MBP (in my case £3,149.00), given that the £ is weak, it was still not going to put me off making a purchase. That said, the previous model at a similar level, minus the Radeon Pro 460 was £1,999.00 a few hours earlier...

Available 24 November.

Seems like I will keep using my MacBook Air 2011. Maybe just another battery replacement. Not upgrading is better for the environment anyways.

Agreed.

Because of all the hate, I almost feel embarrassed to admit that I ordered a TOTR i7, 16GB, 1TB New 13” MBP, last night. £2759 + Apple Care brings it to just under £3K.

However, I had a pick-up date of the 24th November and a delivers between the 17th - 24th November. So I went for deliver, as I usually get delivery in London at the early end of schedules, most likely because of the higher volume of delivery infrastructure here.

Did you get that option?

I had the option of delivery or pick up too. I went for a pick up at Apple Westfield Stratford. I'd rather go collect it in my own time and have it in my hands, rather than not be home for a missed delivery.

hahaha DDR3!!! my 2009 MBP C2D is laughing
It is sort of strange that a new high end laptop, Apple would go with such old memory since Apple said this is the fastest MacBook Pro. I think Apple did it to save $$ since LPDDR4 is still pricey and knowing Apple practices on memory, they either limit it like on the iPhone or go with the cheapest type like they have done on the MacBook. Maybe in the next refresh it will be LPDDR4!

Are you guys really that naive? This is exactly what Apple wants. They create the image that there's a huge rush on their products, despite the fact that their sale numbers of literally any product in their pipeline are shrinking rapidly. They want you to have the feeling to miss out on something if you don't order one NOW. This also has a lot to do with the image they want to show to their shareholders. They also want to distract from their completely unreasonable price policy by generating the image that they cannot meet their delivery demands.
20$ that we'll read about news that "new macbook pro delivers earlier than estimated" in a few weeks.

So, you've ordered yours? :D

I almost feel embarrassed to admit that I ordered a <some kind of laptop>...
One day I might order something similar. But until my workhorse 17" machine dies, I'm not aware of anything that can be done with the new machines that I can't already do on this one.

People are buying it, so that should make Timmy and crew happy, though I think not as many people are pulling the trigger. Maybe its just me, but I know I'm going to be counted in the not buying category.

Kudos to those that are happy with what Apple provided and are willing to pay

I am upgrading from unibody 2008, I will be buying this laptop, but if I was you PRO guys using this for a living I would definitely start a campaign against Apple recent tactics, thinner+lighter over price+power.

Tim Cook should be very glad Jobs gave them the gift of OS X, otherwise everyone would be jumping ship.
