And so the absolute disgraceful launch tactics of Apple continue. Produce minimum stock, announce, delay delivery by 2 weeks on the first day and build up demand.
Happens with every single product they have launched since Angela started.
It apparently seems to work, except to completely piss off all the customers who didn't manage to order within the first hour..... Well done Apple.
Just another fine reason to lose more customers. it is amazing.
All depends on how many units they planned to have available?
Its not uncommon for companies to restrict supply to create demand - make it look as though its popular.. so others get on the bandwagon.
Why do you assume the same people buying them are the same people complaining about everything wrong with them? That is such a generalization that it's baffling.
I get where you're coming from. Just feels like Apple aren't connected with their fan base anymore.Stating the obvious, production has not started yet. We don't know why, though. My idea, they want to see users' reaction and initial demand. They feared they would get burned with this new line of products, so they went conservative. Creating artificial demand could also be an explanation, which was definitely the reason for the long shipping times of iPhones.
I'm not sure it would be a good approach here, though. If someone wants to buy a MBP, they buy it. If not, they don't. You can't try and "seduce" a Mac user who is tossed, making him believe that the new computers are in high demand and therefore cool and necessary. A computer is a production tool, not a fashion gizmo.
Having said that, and going a bit off-topic.
1) On Wednesday, members were laughing at Surface Book's prices. Now that this abomination of MBP is out with the same price tag, I hear them saying "well, it is not that expensive at all, for what it offers". I will probably buy a Surface Book or a Razer Blade Stealth with the Razer Core dock, which, maxed out, costs the same as a 13" MBP with the toolbar.
2) The toolbar is a major mistake, IMHO. I would have rather gone for a "magic pad", with an integrated digitiser to use with the Apple Pencil. That would be a great way of implementing touch-screen functionalities without making the whole screen touchable. Ideal to take notes, sign documents, do minor adjustments, and do the same things that the touchbar is doing (previews, scroll...). I would have paid a premium for that.
3) The irrational choice of ports on is a major problems. As someone has already pointed out, there is not even compatibility between Apple products... TB3 is great, but at this point in time quite useless.
Possibly. Time will tell. Basically, it's just a separate, touch sensitive screen that's not integrated with the main screen. It presence pretty much invalidates any previous argument from Apple (and, by extension, their apologists/fanboys) that touch screens on laptops are a Bad Thing.2) The toolbar is a major mistake, IMHO.
There will be a dongle for that? Only $9!So, you can't connect Apple own new iPhone headphones to the new MacBook Pro? What they were thinking?
Wait, so they are creating demand or losing customers?!?

Do you have examples of companies that have done so?
Whilst I was a little surprised (and disappointed) at the price point for the top end, specced up MBP (in my case £3,149.00), given that the £ is weak, it was still not going to put me off making a purchase. That said, the previous model at a similar level, minus the Radeon Pro 460 was £1,999.00 a few hours earlier...
Available 24 November.
They clearly do but these latest models are for people with more money to spend but I guess that's their market with these new products.Did you ever think that maybe Apple is making products that many many people want?
Agreed.
Because of all the hate, I almost feel embarrassed to admit that I ordered a TOTR i7, 16GB, 1TB New 13” MBP, last night. £2759 + Apple Care brings it to just under £3K.
However, I had a pick-up date of the 24th November and a delivers between the 17th - 24th November. So I went for deliver, as I usually get delivery in London at the early end of schedules, most likely because of the higher volume of delivery infrastructure here.
Did you get that option?
It is sort of strange that a new high end laptop, Apple would go with such old memory since Apple said this is the fastest MacBook Pro. I think Apple did it to save $$ since LPDDR4 is still pricey and knowing Apple practices on memory, they either limit it like on the iPhone or go with the cheapest type like they have done on the MacBook. Maybe in the next refresh it will be LPDDR4!hahaha DDR3!!! my 2009 MBP C2D is laughing
So, you've ordered yours? And so the absolute disgraceful launch tactics of Apple continue. Produce minimum stock, announce, delay delivery by 2 weeks on the first day and build up demand.

One day I might order something similar. But until my workhorse 17" machine dies, I'm not aware of anything that can be done with the new machines that I can't already do on this one.I almost feel embarrassed to admit that I ordered a <some kind of laptop>...
