I'm not saying the optical drive is irrelevant, but most people simply do not burn many discs. They e-mail, or use USB thumb drives, and so on. Video rental stores all over are closing up shop, so even at home, a lot of people are preferring piracy, or Netflix, and so on (iTunes, etc.).
Apple wouldn't put out a computers with ports that would wear down over time for a known reason.

Sony Vaio Z can manage 1920x1080 on their 13inch model.
Not trying to to flame, just thought screen tech was one of Apples prides.
And don't those Vaio's cost more than twice as much? I'm enjoying the 1440 res on my 13" Air. Any higher though and that's some serious squinting.
Much like you said, no current browser uses GPU/hardware accelerated JavaScript. Unless he was using streetview on a completely new JavaScript interpreter that's different than any current in-browser implementation, its a safe assumption that, because its JavaScript and not flash or Java, its not using the gpu. Flash and Java both support some level of hardware acceleration, but at the present moment, JavaScript in safari or any other browser does not.
While not completely and totally factually correct, I explained that it wasn't using the GPU without being pedantic, but instead tersely.

Yeah you're right...I'm just a worry wort about that since I've been saving forever.
So my last 3 questions for you (sorry if I'm bugging ya.)
1) With everything I listed that I do on my Laptop you're pretty confident I'll be fine with the 15inch i5? (I'll get the 500gb too)
2) These updates display options? I want a nice screen...Is there a huge difference with the Stock vs. HD vs. HD w/anti-glare? (Is the anti-glare not glossy?)
3) Should I buy Thursday or wait for the OS upgrade in Summer to save 100 and see if there are any initial bugs to fix?
There are a bunch of sites/forums making these claims.
It's easy to get lost in the thousand rumors.
So the 13" retains the superdrive. LAME! Please don't be true.
For some reason I really doubt this report. Some random French site all of sudden finding out such details is suspect. Just my thoughts.
No more white MacBook?
Does that mean entry level Aluminum MacBook will now be $1099?![]()
Maybe they'll denounce the 13" MacBook Pro back to being just a MacBook?
Wake me up when Apple gets on board with the future and integrates Blu-Ray.
An HD screen with crappy worthless streaming media. Sweet!!!
No, it says 2 lines of 13"....
Maybe a basic 13" Aluminum Macbook with no FW (Light Peak instead), no SSD, and no optical drive.
$999?
Hmm, you'd think that would be the other way round (given that the 15" is larger therefore would have a larger battery)![]()
Uh, the white macbook is the ugly duckling in the entire mac line, they should kill it asap. It's the only non-metal product they sell. Individuality? Are they selling white plastic imacs along with the aluminum ones? No, cause they're outdated. Apple stands to gain from killing the white macbook, as its the least sleek product they sell and looks out of place. The iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, iMac, mac mini, etc don't seem to have trouble selling bc of their lack of 'individuality' and neither will their notebook line.
I'm not following the point of the 3rd USB port on the 13" MBP - anybody who's seen the logic board of one knows there's not any room to add one without either sticking it someplace weird (other side?) or dropping one of the other ports. Given the slow uptake of USB3 by Intel, it seems unlikely that Apple would drop the FW800 port for a *slower* USB2 port...
The other alternative is that the source couldn't tell the difference between USB and Light Peak (some of the prototype connectors did look similar).
If there's still an option for the Superdrive that means that the dimensions won't be very different from the old MBP's. Too bad. I wonder, where are all these people who use their Superdrives regularly when they're away from home or work (where they could easily attach an external Superdrive)?
I personally don't know a single person who falls into that category. So I wonder why Apple can't create a niche product to cater to this small population, calling it perhaps "Macbook Dinosaur".
Instead they give an option for either Superdrive or internal SSD within the same unibody volume. Everybody knows that the dimensions of SSD are much less than a Superdrive, so there will be wasted space inside, which doesn't strike me as particularly elegant design.
Oh well...
you mean demote... denounce is not correct... not at all...
Am I the only one who is not for eliminating super drives...I mean I don't use them too often but it would suck to need them and not have the option. What if I want to watch a DVD that's not on itunes or netflix. CD's/Dvd's are nowhere near obsolete and they are a great way to store back ups of music or pictures...I'm not at all in for this idea of eliminating superdrive.
I pray to god they haven't removed firewire, and all will be well in the universe.
They have two unibody shells for the Mac Mini, one with a drive slot and one without. Doing the same for a MBP doesn't seem that out of line.
Guys. It's on like Donkey Kong.

You're obviously not on the same wavelength as Apple. I love my Macbook Air more than my previous 13" MBP and haven't looked back. I think the reason Apple continues to sell the 17" MBP is to obviously satisfy those users who require more power, but I personally am intrigued and excited to see things keep going thinner and lighter in the evolution of Apple's mobile computing business.
damn u apple. I've clicked refresh more in the past week than in my life twice over....
I have latest and greatest syndrome lol. I know I have a great laptop and I dont need to replace it anytime soon, but because of my unfortunate condition i'm compelled to drool over new MBP's lol.
I hope that doesn't mean they are nuking the FireWire port again...![]()
