I'm not using streetview or google maps within a browser, just the application Google Earth current beta version which actually says OpenGL in the 'about' which was why I asked the question originally:

In that case, there is some graphics card involved, although I don't know how powerful the card has to be, I've always used streetview in browser only.

Am I the only one who is not for eliminating super drives...I mean I don't use them too often but it would suck to need them and not have the option. What if I want to watch a DVD that's not on itunes or netflix. CD's/Dvd's are nowhere near obsolete and they are a great way to store back ups of music or pictures...I'm not at all in for this idea of eliminating superdrive.

No, i think a laptop isn't complete without a optical drive, and Apple is not smart not to implement one. (blu-ray)

sorry whats OP?

where is this source of yours?

can you post a link? even if its not in english?

Are you quoting the right post? I didn't mention anything about OP. OP is the original post, the first post in this thread.

There is no source for this, if the rumors are true, this is the main reason for 16GB SSD being used for the OS only.

is the i5 way faster than the i3? i really want the 13' but sounds like it isnt a good deal? thoughts?

eh, unless you are a video guy or a programmer you probably wont notice it. Get the low end model and put an SSD in it with the extra 300. That would be better use of the extra $300

Last off topic comment (and that's an iPromise :D)

It's really good, you just can scroll around the streets using the arrow keys once in streetview mode. If you go too fast it sometimes cannot keep up with rendering the next streetview fully so I am wondering if this is more to do with download speed/CPU/GPU.

1. i'm positive the i5 would suit your needs. The i7 is not that much faster.'

2. I think there is a huge difference. I love the 1680x 1050. There is also a huge difference between glossy vs antiglare. Mroogle it in my signiture.

3. Buy Thursday. It's silly to wait until the summer because of an OS upgrade. Buy now and enjoy!

So upgrade the stock screen and grab the regular HD screen option (no anti-glare)?

It's like you're buying a MBP for you and me haha :D

some of those specs don't seem likely. but if they really are correct, way to spoil it. seriously, it's great to hear all this exciting news, but I'd rather have Apple introduce it.

lol. Glossy Vs. Antiglare is a personal choice. Theres nothing wrong with either. Watch a few youtube videos comparing the two. I have a high res glossy. The antiglare has the silver bezel as well.

If there's still an option for the Superdrive that means that the dimensions won't be very different from the old MBP's. Too bad. I wonder, where are all these people who use their Superdrives regularly when they're away from home or work (where they could easily attach an external Superdrive)?

I personally don't know a single person who falls into that category. So I wonder why Apple can't create a niche product to cater to this small population, calling it perhaps "Macbook Dinosaur".

Instead they give an option for either Superdrive or internal SSD within the same unibody volume. Everybody knows that the dimensions of SSD are much less than a Superdrive, so there will be wasted space inside, which doesn't strike me as particularly elegant design.

Oh well...
The macbook is already very expensive to a lot of people, you mean its smart that people should pay extra to get them what they want (The ODD drive)? How does that make any sense what-so-ever? Not to mention bringing out an external drive isn't exactly convenient.

I think you have it the other way around, Apple created a niche product called the Macbook air to cater to the small population that prefers download than optical drive that can store a lot of info and can be easily accessed anytime.

You mean you would give up a pratical function (ODD) just to make your laptop look better? Are you serious?

SaWEEET!
Yeah I fixed my typo...I have a glossy now and love it.
Well even though you're getting one MBP, know that you just helped me tons and made my day. Thanks man.

I'm just wondering because I DJ for a living and finally making the switch over to Apple. I just the program Serato and was just curious if the processor would have any affect on the program. I just want a 13' model to run smoothly thats all.

Anyway, there will not be a smallish SSD onboard unless we see 10.6.7 released on thursday as well that addresses the following:

10.6.6 and pretty much every version before it DOES NOT easily allow the home directory library et al to be moved off the internal system drive. It's always been about 1 and only 1 drive that can be called the system drive. Applications such as Adobe's Creative Suite, Maybe even office and a slew of others require that they be installed to the system drive.
YES
you can trick the OS using symbolic links and a whole slew of other stuff, but the average joe will not A) want to -or- B) know how to set up such a solution. A what if the secondary disk fails? The system won't boot!

iTunes and iLife applications still store files in the home directory. Is this going to be moved off of the "system" drive by default? How so? How will we control this? What about those of us with older systems that don't have an onboard SSD.

Again, if Apple addresses the current inadequacies for a seamless dual drive setup then I can believe such a rumor. Until then...no.

THANK YOU!! photoshop and office is NOT in the mac app store!! and frankly i would die without either of them!

And what if you cannot access some of your data because they did not fit on your internal disk and thus reside on an external disk and you did not take that external disk with you?
And what if you cannot use your computer because the battery is empty and you do not have a spare battery or external power supply with you?
How dare Apple to offer a version of their notebooks with an ODD instead of second HD? And how dare they offer a version with an ODD instead of second battery or a built-in power supply?

Seriously, Apple is giving us the option to choose (in a limited way) which component we would like to have built in and which we would like as an external component. And naturally whatever we need the most often, we would like to have built in. For some people that might be a second storage volume and for others an ODD.
