I don't buy a combined MDP / "Thunderbolt" port. Seems to me that those most interested in a new high-speed port would be the most likely to use an external display.

Then there's all the new icons plastered next to the ports. Why would Apple suddenly add all of those? They seem happy with the clean look now.

Finally, the "Thunderbolt" lightning-arrow icon looks suspiciously like a lot of high voltage symbols. Why use it for anything not *primarily* intended to carry power?

I call "fake" on the image, at least.

untrue. hyperthreating will give you about 30% if equal in gigaherz (2.4Ghz without HT can be up to 30% slower compared to a cpu with 2.4ghz and HT)
...
blabla
..

it isn't only hyperthreating. the core i5 has turbo boost and much more addons (like aes encryption, ...) with turbo boost 2.6ghz ist possible with the core i5 2410M (this is the one with 2,3ghz) or 2,9ghz with one core.

So the real question...

Is AC/DC going to be the musical guest when they announce it! :D

"You've been... THUNDERBOLT'ED!"

er, not...

Then im hoping for higher screen res to be offered as an option. :)
Exactly. That's the only thing that could redeem this line of updates. If Apple only offers 1280x800 in a 13" professional level laptop in this day and age, I'd be blown away.

Edit: Sounds like this might be a Macbook, not a Macbook Pro though. Still not awesome, but more understandable.

Dang, that sucks. I was seriously hoping for a higher-resolution display. The 11" MBA has more pixels than the brand new 13" Macbook Pro...

Again, it's probably not the Macbook Pro, but rather the new Macbook. Otherwise, these specs would be ridiculous.

Just because they're confirmed legit doesn't make these Pro photos. They could be legit photos of the new Macbook non-Pro.

What a disappointment! Still having to carry the superdrive and external UMTS dongle and a VGA adapter cable and the power adapter.

My college has a 15" Lenovo. It's at least as small as my 15" MBP. It has two batteries, no optical drive, built in VGA, built-in UMTS modem. He just carries his laptop. I need to carry an entire bag with stuff.

+1
Logic.

lol.

You're in denial.

:( I know.

Fingers crossed.

Those icons next to the ports have always been there.

Again, the 13" has never had anything else -- there just isn't room for dedicated graphics.

True, i was just pointing out how bad the intel igp is. And its more then enough room for a gpu inside the 13"

The Intel Graphics 3000 accomplishes an average of 18.79 pictures per second at high graphics details (1024x768, high) and is, so, slightly slower than the Geforce 310M (20 fps).

even slower then the 310m, so ye

If Arn says its legit, thats good enough for me

The Upper 13" model may have that.

I am glad in a way for this, because this means I am sticking with my Macbook Air. I have been swapping out laptops since the Air came out (Powerbook G5 -> Air gen1 -> Air gen 2 -> Macbook Pro Unibody 15" -> Macbook Pro 13" -> Air gen 4). Despite being able to sell them, there is still a cost to switch. I still haven't found the perfect notebook for me, but the current air is close (the originals had WAY too many problems), if only it had an IR Sensor and Backlit Keyboard.

They really should have ditched the Optical and put in an SSD, Bigger Battery, and dedicated graphics.

As for the 15" and 17", they may still get a bigger trackpad since they have room for it (the 13" inch is at max already) and also get the dual hard drive system we have been hearing about.

I didn't do the calculations myself, I just grabbed the data from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort) which is using CVT with vertical blanking methods.

Then it's bad. It means the port will be unusable for peripherals while a monitor is connected, which is just sad. Why buy all lightpeak peripherals when you can get USB peripherals and use them while connector to your monitor ?

Especially for peripherals that do warrant lightpeak bandwidth, does are not things you carry around all the time...

I guess it's a good thing that FW and USB are still there.

Idk...I'm convinced this is either the most basic model of macbook pro you can possibly get, or it is not a MBP at all, but a normal macbook.

The return of FW to the MacBook line ? Now that is big news.

This computer will be priced at $1099 and be the replacement for the white MacBook. My guess is, it will simply be called a MacBook. They will sell millions. Their $999 computer will be the 11 inch Air.

As long as the ODD remains...

If there is a tiered implementation of light peak, the first one being copper interconnects and the second one using actual fiber optic, maybe they are calling this one thunderbolt and the other one lightning bolt when it rolls out? rather than firewire 400 and 800?

Just a possibility for the lame name

Sounds plausible.

This is not true. The current model has the GeForce 320M.

The 320M is integrated. The 330M is a dedicated card.

Fake image?

The last image is fake I believe. It is too easy to make a smooth photshop of the old MBP side and put a mac-a-like thunderbolt in place. If apple is going thunderbolt all the way it will remove its USB. Apple will not just make one thunderbolt port and still use USB or firewire. It is all thunderbolt or the old interface.

*colleague -- but point well taken. ;)

intel graphics hd 30000..........................
really?
REALLY?

Talk about getting screwed in the @$$ by Apple... Please let the GMA HD 3000 be wrong or a crap Photoshop job....

If it comes out with that crap graphics card it looks like either a Falcon, Alienware or XPS with a decent dedicated card and putting Ubuntu on it.

I know these images have now been "confirmed" But why is that mag safe port two different colors? Looks like 2 different images have been shopped together.
