if this is the thunderbolt then what has happened to the mini display port?

Apple has been moving to keeping the I/O on one side for smaller laptops, USB on Air excluded, so I cant see them putting the display on the other side.

although I would love if this is true!!

Light Peak would be capable of handling i/o and display.

It makes sense. Apple and Intel have been pushing Light Peak forever, and USB 3.0 is starting to make inroads, so Apple and Intel's time to act is now.

I know these images have now been "confirmed" But why is that mag safe port two different colors? Looks like 2 different images have been shopped together.

that's due to the plastic wrapping that looks like it's been partially slid off...

No its not. You are wrong.
yes, there wil lbe games which will run slower with the hd3000. but there also will be gamew which run fast. only a litte, but they exist. on 3DMark 05 the hd 300 is 10% faster than the 320m,...

so as i wrote.. with the faster cpu i don't think that anybody can see the difference. and if you don't want it, you can buy the old macbook. the big advantage of the hd3000 is the much better batteriepower.

and don't forget, there is no alternative: there are no nvidia chipsets for the sandybridge cpus. so the only possibility for apple is an dedicated gpu and this is too much for the lowest macbook pro.

At least thunderbolt is a more saleable name than light peak.

You're kidding right?
Lightpeak as a name is pretty meh, but Thunderbolt!? But I guess it goes hand in hand with laughable, cheasy names like "Launch pad" and "Mission control"

perhaps - wildcard here ...

the 13" retains the current design, replaces the white macbook and is downgraded once more to a 'non pro' device and the 15" and 17" devices get a minor design update with standard high res / anti glare displays? at least then defines pro units as visually different?

like I said, wildcard.

Yep, some Jr VP has got his way. These names are poor to say the least.

This looks photoshopped… the vertical cut is very noticeable on that usb port

I've always wondered why apple doesn't design there own chipset for the 13" mpb and get Nvidia or ATI to help them use one of there superior integrated graphics chip, i'm sure intel would licence apple to create their own chipsets.
an sandy bridge it makes no sense to put the gpu into the chipset.

100 posts in this thread, and no one has brought up the patent that was the headline just a few days ago.

If Apple was to name the port something other than "Light Peak", why would it look like what is pictured in the first post? A USB-like connecter is something Apple would have considered no later than 2005. It's 2011. Apple's next connector will be magnetic based.

I think that patent is a replacement for this:

OMG it's a big day today.. starting from iPad 2 event on March 2, OS X Lion, and now this.... this Thunderbolt thing!

My take is that I won't believe it until I see it. But can someone explain this:

Update: We've confirmed these images are legitimate.

How did they do that?

1280x800 is still fine and GMA (which usually sucks) HD 3000 seems quite equivalent to 320M so not a big loss.

1280x800 is NOT fine, unless we're talking about a cell phone or a 10" netbook. I'm finally able to replace our old laptops at work, all of which have 1280x800 screens. We got them that way because my boss, who got the first one, didn't want to wait an extra week to get a decent display, so it became the standard. Over the past 3 years, the single biggest complaint I get from everybody is the low resolution of the screen, and the fact that you can't get much work done with that few pixels. When I started rolling out the replacements with 1920x1080 displays, 3 people literally broke into tears.
