Gruber has some info up his sleeve. His post Two and Two Together ended with "Half wrong is the “top tier”?".. he's been very quiet on speculation, I'm guessing he's going to show us what 'top tier' predictions he has.

Just guessing.

It looks like someone printed some symbols and photographed them with a cheap digital camera. And btw, there are no semiconductors on the world market which implement light peak.

So, if this is the upgrade for the unibody white MacBook (Plastic -> Aluminium), it would also make sense for the rest of the line of Pros to be upgraded, so perhaps Aluminium -> Liquid Metal? Then we would still have 2 price options and two different materials that the MacBooks are made out of, with the cheaper MacBook being Alu and the more expensive Pros being Liquid Metal.

Just a thought

Then it's bad. It means the port will be unusable for peripherals while a monitor is connected, which is just sad. Why buy all lightpeak peripherals when you can get USB peripherals and use them while connector to your monitor ?

Especially for peripherals that do warrant lightpeak bandwidth, does are not things you carry around all the time...

I guess it's a good thing that FW and USB are still there.

The return of FW to the MacBook line ? Now that is big news.

My guess would be they are doing a slow roll-out until the peripheral makers start supporting the new interface. Then Apple, will gradually reduce the USB ports and add light peak ports. They should be able to sell you a $29 LP to USB adapter. That is the Apple way.

bummer

I really hoped for better resolution, looks like is not gonna happen...Just sold my 2010 MBP 13" cos I couldn't stand the terrible display anymore. I'll have to look at the 15" then...or the 13" Air...but I love the form factor of the MBP 13" and the extra processing power punch...

Honestly, I've never really believed in the "OS on a stick" rumor, just sounded too much like coming from a wishlist...Plus, this kind of solution would require some relatively important OS tweak..and 10.6.7 is not ready yet (and so it couldn't have been preinstalled on the new machines in time).

Same goes for the redesign...think how long they stuck with the original MB or the pre unibody MBP (which was pretty much the same design as the last G4 Powerbook). My educated guess is that we won't see any until late 2011 (in line with next "due" refresh) or next year with the new Intel offerings. Anyway, what's wrong with the unibody design? I think it's by many respects extremely actual (much more than the pre unibody at their end of life)

light peak? at this point, with no widespread industry standard, is only good for marketing. I hope my MDP to HDMI and VGA adaptors still work though...but then again it would be so Apple-like to screw us up...

Then there's all the new icons plastered next to the ports. Why would Apple suddenly add all of those? They seem happy with the clean look now.

Those icons next to the ports have always been there.

You're right... I looked at my MBP in a slightly dark room and didn't see them until I turned another light on.

it isn't only hyperthreating. the core i5 has turbo boost and much more addons (like aes encryption, ...) with turbo boost 2.6ghz ist possible with the core i5 2410M (this is the one with 2,3ghz) or 2,9ghz with one core.

you are right but i dont believe that they will put the i5 in the 13".
i think they put in the i3 - which has 2.1ghz, HT but no turbo boost.

nevermind.

I'm going to crawl under my desk, rock back and forth and suck my thumb, until someone says "liquid metal" again.

Finally, the "Thunderbolt" lightning-arrow icon looks suspiciously like a lot of high voltage symbols. Why use it for anything not *primarily* intended to carry power?

I call "fake" on the image, at least.
First off all, the MBP does have icons next to each port currently, not seeing why that would change. Secondly, who says LP doesn't carry power? If it's based on copper for now, it can.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the white macbook replacement, it's the base macbook pro.

Screen resolution stays the same due to the lackluster graphics performance - with low resolution it might still be usable, anything higher and it would be the laughing stock for 3d performance.

I'm a bit sh@t off though, all I wanted was a bit more resolution and I don't game :(

Thunderbolt will be very useful though...

So just to clarify. This is the low-end 13" MacBook Pro. So the other models will have better specs.

Reading through the benchmarks and tests does show it to be slower than the 320M. No MUCH LESS, but definately not up to par with the 320M.

Don't just look at the bars, look at what is tested and remember the 320M is running with a Core 2 Duo processor which is slower than the Sandy Bridge processor used in combination with the Intel 3000 HD graphics.

The only time the Intel graphics were on par or higher than the 320M is when you had a CPU bound scenario and what was being benchmarked was the ability of the processor to feed the video hardware essentially. All GPU bound tests showed the 320M on top.

Going from the 320M to the Intel 3000 HD is a GPU downgrade. The CPU upgrade that comes with it manages to equalize things in certain scenarios which are not graphics intensive.

That's the gist of it.

Then you need to read more tests. THe intel 3000 HD is slighty worse then the 310m, the intel 3000hd, is just a tiny bit better then the 9400m.

I've always wondered why apple doesn't design there own chipset for the 13" mpb and get Nvidia or ATI to help them use one of there superior integrated graphics chip, i'm sure intel would licence apple to create their own chipsets.

Hey do you think that they only releasing a 13 inch and no 15 or 17 inch?
