MBP issues

Hi. Just got my MacBook Pro two weeks ago. For the record :

- 1.83 GHz MacBook Pro, 2x512MB RAM, 80GB HD 5400 RPM, ordered via Apple Online Store in march

- LCD Buzz/tone: NO
- CPU whine: YES

I also have two issues that occur randomly, one with the speakers and one with Airport reception.

1) First, sometimes at boot I can hear distortion in the "Apple sound", TV-snow like sound in the left speaker. Once logged in, the same speaker doesn't always work when I press F3/F4 to adjust the volume.

2) I also have Airport connection problems with my MBP. I have a Linksys router and all my devices (Sony PSP, Nintendo DS, PowerBook 12") work flawlessly. The problem I have with the MBP is that sometimes on power on, the Wi-Fi connection isn't detected and I have to manually "rediscover/reconfigure" the wireless connection. I've tried to change my router configuration to see if it solved the problem but I haven't found a working setup yet. I've bypassed the problem by enabling "SSID broadcast" on my router, so that when the network isn't detected at boot, I only have to select it by left-clicking on the Airport icon. Once I'm connected, the reception is excellent, everything's fine, 'till I reboot my computer.. :)

There seems to be a lot of threads with people having problems with their MBP. If anybody could post URLs to related topics that give solutions/workarounds to any of these problems, that would be awesome.

Thanks for your help!

Heya- did some digging and found the following:

Petition to Apple as of today is 301 people:

Daniel Jalkut has contributed more than his share:

Here's an analysis of the battery life drain on the MBP for the workarounds:

Apple remains mum on the subject. (CPU noise, not LCD-related)

QuietMBP

I just downloaded QuietMBP and true to the stories- it isolates the sound with perfection.

It displays a slider from 0 to 1000 that controls the amount of rest the program takes in microseconds between uses of the CPU.

At full rest (1000) my MBP whine is noticable at 10 feet. Once I lowered the rest time to 160, it's quiet. And Yes, I keep it plugged in and don't experience the 10-15 minutes of lost battery time because of it.

sigh.

Logic Board Swapped

Bad news, I just got my MBP back- after an exchange (no way to verify) a logic board (motherboard) ... lo and behold.. no difference in CPU whine.

I'll give up right about now.

At least I have the quietMBP app to silence it when I'm someplace quiet (like work).

Signing off.

I also have the buzzing problem.. For my case it getting louder as i increase the LCD brigtness. It start buzzing at +-50% and go louder as it go to 100%. +-50% and below, no problem so i just set it to like 50%.Disable the LCD, its gone. The problem doesnt happen instantly, only happened after few minutes of usage from the moment i turn on the mac / from the moment the LCD displaying something.. Resetting SMC and PRAM as being told by Apple Phone Support also wont work.

Wierd: Only happen on my Leopard not on winXP trough bootcamp.Software problem or something???

Now i just wait for my semester break to return the mac cuz i need computer during study.

You realize this thread is nearly 3 years old?

The original MBP had a whine caused by the CPU. Yours is due to the LCD backlight.
