i really dont see the macbook pro getting super drastic changes at all. i think apple knows that if minor tweeks here and there fixing problems people have been complaining about will satisfy most people. i myself would love a crazy design for the new mbp since i know that means apple is challenging themselves to be on top of the game.

Me too - I'm hoping that common sense and goodwill will prevail, and they'll swap my MBP for a new one when they come out.

Design wise, I hope they don't go with the black MBA keyboard - it just looks like an old design.

I do not expect Apple to launch the MacBook and MacBook Pro together.

More likely the MacBook will come first, followed 30-60 days later by the MacBook Pro.

Huh? Aren't they always released together except for the Penryn update? And wasn't the MBP released first that time? Are you saying this because the Macbook has more leaked cases out?

Seconded.

Agree with you both, this is something of a burning sisue right now for some of us; however, I love the keyboard as it is. Yes, I know that slimmer is all the rage and is considered vastly more attractive and stylish, but, as with super-models, just how far can one go? Obviously, further than one ever thought. Cheers

With as hot as the current stock of macbook Pro's run, you all must be dreaming if you think it would be thinner. My macbook pro (listed in signature), when surfing, idles at 60C. And that is with the screen down to 70% brightness.

I'm not saying apple isn't capable of engineering miracles, but this is getting dangerously absurd.

Oh, and if they do go ahead and use the "chiclit" black keyboard, it would allow them to make the vents on either side the laptop bigger, hopefully letting them provide bigger fans, and thus a cooler overall machine.
If Apple uses the 25 W CPUs (instead of the current 35 W ones), that'll be less heat—but then there'll be a downgrade from the current top 2.6 GHz CPU (2.53 GHz).

Calm down, and apply common sense before you say a word. This is year 2008, everyone one wants theirs electronics smaller, thinner, lighter.
That would be great, but smaller, thinner, and lighter comes at the expense of performance (relatively and/or absolutely) and/or price, which some people are not going to give up. (See MacBook vs. MacBook Air.) That's why the Mac Pro is still as powerful as ever, and the iMac is actually moving up as well as maintaining its low-end.

They were never released together except for the Penryn update (and the small November update). And the MacBook Pro was always the first to get new technology.

People are speculating a simultaneous release this time around because of the possibility of an Apple Event that introduces new notebooks.

Hopefully they will redesign, so I can sell my computer as the last of the classic MacBook [Pro] design!

I agree about in NOT wanting them to pursue this 'thin' idea.

these are supposed to be pro models and not "form over function" models.

It's always a trade off.

Leave the 'thin' to the Air (or add something else to the line-up) :)

I hope that it will have the black keyboard but have the rest look the same. I doubt they would release a Macbook first without releasing a MBP because that would make the MB too close to the base model MBP. the highest end MB is already pretty damn close to base model MBP.

Anyone else surprised that the leaked image states that the new MB is COMING ?

When has Apple -ever- annouced a product like that ?
.... never. The just release the new products.

As for the date being a stock availability date, Steve/apple.com always uses more ambiguous statements, say "Available in January" or whatever.

I'm calling BS on these pictures.

I legitimately would rather not have a redesign, the case looks great as is and I like how its squared off edges dont replicate the air or most notebooks which try to look sleek but instead look similar to thinkpads and other professional notebooks.

If anything I really don't want the chicklet keyboard, or an option not to have it, I personally don't think it looks as professional and refined as the current keyboard.

If anything I would be satisfied with FW3200, 1 more usb (not linked to keyboard trackpad etc like the macbooks and 17" rear ports are http://www.computeraudiophile.com/node/417) and maybe expresscard 54 which gives a slight bit more functionality to the slot (if they could somehow make two independent doors so only 34mm opens when you have a 34mm card that would be cool too.

I'm one of the many waiting for a redesign, and I have to say I personally like the black border around the screen (like the iMac) that we have seen in some mock ups. Also, some of the renderings on www.macpredictions.com in black do look pretty sharp. I have to agree with the idea of not getting a major redesign until MWSF 2009. I don't know much about the details of computer processors, but it seams like Nehalem will a major advance, and they will require different architecture, so why redesign with montevia? Upgrade in September, redesign in January...

My mockup. I feel the nicest looking images in this thread thus far are the third fourth and fifth images. I think using the MacBook Air styled display case (top part) with a slightly more curved bottom case with straight sides looks very classy.

lo wait, is this your mockup, (You made it)

Nehalem isn't coming until Q3 2009.

All the rumors point to a redesign soon (not next year).

A different architecture doesn't mean a redesign. Case in point: The Intel transition.

Optional keyboard would be awesome for the MBP, but it's not really Apple's style.

I'm hoping for:

1. Another USB port
2. SD Card/media slot
3. bigger mouse trackpad
4. bump in speeds, etc.
5. black bordered screen like the iMac
6. chicklet keyboard (black keys)

Well ye know...I would really rather NOT have a mixture of silver (aluminum) and black. Why? Cause it's fugly. Apple's are designed to be gentle and soft. Those sharp contrasts make it look cheep, in my opinion. Sony, Toshiba, Acer, Dell: name any company and they have been doing it for years. If the MB or MBP would also start using the mixture of black and silver, it would be such a downfall.

For sure, the silver keyboard makes the MBP stand apart from the rest. Almost ANY silver pc-laptop has a black keyboard and I find it disgusting.
