MacBook Pro to Receive 'Major Upgrade' by Early Next Year

If this ends up being called Ultra, then we have 4 laptop lines, two (or more) of which come in two different sizes. I like choice, but this seems overly confusing.

No it’s not relative to the entire laptop manufacturing industry.

Prosumer market needs more than one option especially with how distinctly advanced and versatile computer use is able to be with modern tech unavoidably more expensive that shouldn’t be expected to be immediately available or forced unto modest computer users.

Na... Still no esim support, you have to carry your mobile phone with laptop , like a generator, not only that a power bank. I think not yet . I'll upgrade dell precision this time, next...

I like this take— introducing a MacBook Ultra allows Apple to bring more advanced tech to those who want it without increasing cost for everyone else.

I decided to live like there's no tomorrow and bought a 16-inch M5 Pro MBP. I figure I'm not waiting to get that sweet performance now. If Apple surprises and touchscreen is optional, eSIM is available, weight is reduced, and thermal throttling is nil, then I'll just sell the 16-inch M5 Pro, as there are always folks looking for deals, and apply the proceeds to an M6 if compelling enough. I've been burned a few times in the past holding out hope for Apple to do what I wanted (I held out for the 2016 MBP to finally upgrade from an Intel Haswell chip only to be saddled with an ultrathin redesign with a ***** camera, Touchbar, butterfly keyboard, removal of all useful ports, and a CPU/GPU combo that continually overheated - Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice, well... I won't get fooled again!). 😉

MacOS is bound to be further ensh*tified to accomodate touch elements, unfortunately.

So even if there is a non-touch option, it will still run the same OS lol.

MacOS has had touch elements before, wouldn’t be surprised if the bottom edge of the screen was a touch bar. 🙂

I hope to be wrong, but I can't imagine a touch-based UI still being efficient to use with a mouse and keyboard.
Lowkey just want them to use the Windows approach by simply allowing touch control on the existing UI.

It’s efficient now. For example, I tapped the Reply button to reply to this message then, because the insertion point doesn’t automatically go to the text box, I tapped the text box and started typing. Moving my finger directly to a point of interest will always be faster than moving to a pointing device, then using that pointing device to move a cursor to the point of interest.

Thinner = more fragile, so not a plus.

Would love touch screen and a built-in cell modem. But, not sure that I trust Apple’s cell modem chips to be anywhere near as good as those from Qualcomm. And not sure that I want to wait till next year, when I can buy non-Apple products with these features today.

I assume you're describing your phone or ipad. I'm talking about macOS. Inevitably there will be changes made to accomodate touch controls that may make the pointer experience worse. I remain open minded but looking like Lenovo/ Linux for my next device.
