I'm also keen to know how people know that the 15" models are LED?

Because it says so.

if its at all possible to do i will consider swapping the hard disks yes.

It's possible, but if it's the same as the previous model, it's a mess to take apart, and voids the warranty.

I can't buy one unless they've fixed that design, as I'm not willing to buy a laptop without a warranty.

Bummer

:( Severely out of luck. I ordered what I thought was a top of the range 15 with 2.33 GHz etc two weeks ago.

It hasn't arrived from S'pore where they were adding a 160Gig HD but it SHIPPED on June 1. Looking at the 'upgrade protection policy' I would've been OK and got the newer version if they hadn't posted it when the upgrade announcement was made.

I've paid a $700 deposit, too, but I have no intention of paying $3700 (education) for a machine that's already out of date before it's been delivered.

Can see some wrangling with my reseller coming. A lot of money to lose though.

im so psyched right now. i have been hanging on untill the very last moments with my current rig.

im not sure how much longer it'll actually last...it took 3 boots this morning to get working, then when it did it locked up and then i had to go to work.

the PSU in that thing is going to detonate any day now.... pah, cheapo PSU's 400watts for like 20quid eh, my mate was a cheap skate (i didnt build or even pay for this rig and he ran it pretty hard with some more power heavy components than it has now)

just been biding my time, impatiently for a good machine to pop up. i thought ASUS had it with the G1S, but simply cannot agree on the styling and design, i thought samsung had it on with the up coming X65 but thats not coming till july so screw them.

then theres the fact that ive even got the peddling b*****ds at places like PC world and curry's who would willing sell you any story to get you to buy something telling me simply not to bother with vista.... i guess they are getting sick of customers coming back and moaning that its "all completely broken"

so i think getting a mac gives me the oppertunity to try something new, and gives me the best of both worlds. secure, reliable, intuitive OS X + familiar, compatible with everything windows XP pro.

dont worry about it mate,

i know that does actually suck, but at the end of the day santa rosa honestly isnt "all that and a bag of chips". its a small incremental type upgrade to an already stellar platform.

unless you were overly bothered about gaming, i dont think you have much to worry about, the X1600 is a decent chip and from what i have heard ATi did a good job with the power usage and heat output for that chip as well

i gues the LED screen would be worth having, but a few minutes more battery life is probably going to be the only significant difference for that piece of technology

the CPU, well...... honestly unless you are gaming, you wouldnt barely know the difference between a 1.8Ghz and 2.4Ghz C2D when doing normal work. i use a 1.86Ghz C2D here at work at its buttery smooth for everything, so your hardly going to miss 70Mhz.

so i just checked my education apple website and they arnt discounting the new mbp so does that mean they havnt updated yet, or its too new to discount?

Are you positive you're looking at the Education Store? As far as I can tell they have the same discounts as the old models ($1799 and $2299 for the 15" models).

Got mine already !

Just been and got mine from the Apple store in the Trafford centre, Manchester, spec is just as it says on the website. RRP -5% business discount. 1st customer I believe. Staff say they only found out themselves this morning about the new products, apple must run an amazing cover up to hide 100,000 new laptops.

Nearly bought an old spec one last week for my business but held off after noticing upgrade rumours.

First impressions WOW :) :) :) :) :) :)

Previous machine was a G4 titanium which just cant keep up with the RAW images I had recently introduced to it.

Anyway loading Aperture at the moment, so its going to get some serious sums to do.

Anyone any questions feel free to ask.

Glenn

I was in Manchester Arndales store today and I kept catching the staff giving each other glances like "it's coming" :D We all knew. They knew some of us knew. They were expecting questions.

so if i went to my apple store on lets say thursday, you think theyd have the standard 2500 dollar mbp, and can you still get school discount at the actual stores and do they have the same free ipod deal

On the edge of the new release...

Just wanted to relay my experience - I didn't know about the pending "new release", so I ordered a new MacBook Pro last week 5/29 through the local college website - It arrived 6/4, but by that time I had heard about the new release. Today, 6/5, the official word came out. I then checked my invoice, and sure enough, I was shipped the new model. Whew! I then saw the offer for the "free" ipod, and decided to check into all the steps I might need to do to get that, since I had not opened my purchase yet. All the policies they have in place regarding returns - especially for customized configurations led me to believe a return would not be possible. I the called the 800 number on my order confirmation, and spoke with Jennifer. She was very helpful. They were able to give a credit - not a rebate - for $199, and handle it on the same "order" I had puchased the Powerbook on. This was much simpler than the rebate - I was a little confused, it was so easy. A little while later, I checked my order, and my 4GB Nano was $0.00, and had already shipped! I was truely amazed! Thanks again to Jennifer at Apple.

My dilemma is whether to buy a MacBook Pro now (like tomorrow), or wait till the end of next week to see if an announcement will be made on the Mini or Imac...

Just did a custom order, they said it should arrive at 11 June... 11 June!!! I could possibly get the new MBP and begin watching WWDC on Quicktime!!

and what abot MacPros???

However, piecing together various reports, here are the possible specs for (some) of the new MacBook Pros.

- 2.2GHz, 4mb shared L2 cache, 2GB of 667mhz ram, 120gb, GeForce 8600M GT 128mb
- 2.4GHz, 4mb shared L2 cache, 2GB of 667mhz ram, 160gb, GeForce 8600M GT 256mb
---

How nice ... So we could play around with better graphics on the MacBook Pros - if there really was any use for this  . But what about some graphic cards for the MacPros? It's a crying SHAME to bear a performance on a high end Mac that is easily outclassed by any Mickey Mouse PC

Feels like driving a Formula-car on Volkswagen-tyres. At least the Windws guys have some fun watching us...
