Hi guys,

Just thought that I would share what Apple's customer relations department have just told me. I Was one of the many unlucy people who bought a 27" iMac and had problems with the yellow screen issue. To resolve the problem after 3 replacements and numerous LCD panel replacment (plus some appalling customer service) customer relations contacted me today and offered me as a replacement :- a new mac book pro (yay) they went on to say that because new ones were due they were happy to give me one of those if I was prepared to wait a little while, when I asked how long they told me that the new ones were due out in 4 weeks time, ie late April in the UK.

Hope that's a usefull bit of info for all those people looking to buy one.

**sighhh...you just added in more fuel to my waiting engine!! lol. great info, whether it's true or false, still great news :)

Threw in the towel....

This is going to be our first Mac product and I could not take it any longer, purchased a 13"MBP at the refurb store for $999 plus tax. I am going to add another 2GB of Memory for about $60 once I receive it.
Refurb store mentions it ships in 3-5 business days, I ordered last night at 10:30 EDT and I shipped this morning via Fedex. I can't wait to get it.

Has anyone bought one the new Imacs on the Refurb store?

Good luck on next Tuesday...

Maybe I should have made this clearer in my last post. I am being upgraded from a 27" i7 iMac to a top end new MacBook pro not because of the yellow screen issue with the iMac ( allthough it maybe was a factor), but because I have had so many problems with Apple's customer support.

As one advisor said to me ( the first and only time I spoke to him) " sir, I have no idea how you have found and fallen into this black hole within our customer service and support. But I will be taking over your case now and will do my utmost to resolve the issues you have been having"

after some shocking customer service that has gone on for months, when I explained that I wanted a refund and would be waiting to purchase a new MacBook pro and a 3rd party screen they initially offered me an upgrade to an existing MacBook pro as a good will gesture. When I declined because I knew they were soon to be releasing a new range the person I was speaking to asked me to be patient for a few days whilst she took my case details to her managers. The end result being a call back where she then said she had been autherised to offer me one of the new MacBook pros on release which when I asked she stated would be in 4 weeks time.

Hope that clarifies my previous post which was regarded as being a bit " fishy"

It clarifies it alright, as even more bollocks.

AppleCare do not know when new machines are coming out. The only advance they get is when a new OS is being released when they are given a week or so of extra training.

Apple doesn't inform it's stores or it's resellers until a few days before when all the advertising starts to be sent. So for you to say an AppleCare rep is telling you to wait for over a month is nothing more than a crock.

Sigh, you will note that I said I had been transfered to customer relations who are a seperate dept from AppleCare who deal solely with customer complaints.....

Yeah gd for you, then why are you still lurking around... some of us may not be as fortunate as you since you have so proudly put up whatever u own....

Maybe some of us just dont wanna blow more than $2K on an outdated product be it Apple, Sony , Toshiba or whatever company company that is taking us for a ride....

I don't care what you did , sold , bought , upgraded blah blah sounds like my dog barking cause i cant hear him anymore its just noise...

maybe some of us like to wait in anticipation , all of us have a life maybe its you who doesnt....

anyway drifting from the topic plus wasted 3 minutes OF MY LIFE typing to this quote....

PS: i have more than enough cash to blow on a couple of MBP but i refuse to buy an outdated product....

Power to the consumer...:)

Sounds like you're angry... I am happy and glad I purchased the new MacBook Pro... as far as being proud and posting what I bought? Everyone on this board used to post in signature what products you were currently using... Oh I see you just joined this forum... excuse me for not knowing you may be ignorant or that?

Steve Job's quote

Steve Job's was just quoted in the Apple Times as saying:

"As of today, I am going to take a more responsible role with my customers and begin reducing prices on older technology and stop labeling it as 'New' on the Apple website. I will also start letting customers know what technology and upgrades to expect in our products and an approximate time frame of when to expect them. For their loyalty is appreciated and I realize they have companies to run, jobs to perform and would appreciate a more transparent relationship with us."

-Steve Jobs

Sorry, April Fools. Steve Jobs would never say that.

Sorry, but nobody will believe you. The timeframe makes a little sense but only a little and NO RESELLER would be told in advance. NONE, NADA, ZILCH!

If the delay is really because of the iPad launch then it would make no sens to update the MBP on april 12th because the iPad will be introduced in most other countries at the end of april.

After this there will be the launch of the iPad 3G, so the next possible update would be in june/july...

But as I think that the delay is NOT because of the iPad, but because of problems with the new MBP itself, April 12th could be THE DATE... But every other tuesday from now on could also be THE DATE ;)

Well said. I'm from the camp that the MBP had issues (most likely from heat and battery life) so anytime from now through summer.

THX! :)

Highly possible! But I would like to repeat a theory I posted in another threat:

What about the not-yet-fixed turbo boost problem?
A higly renowned german it-mag writes about some problems with bios and the turbo boost of the i5 and i7... They report that Acer - for example - can not provide the full range of turbo boost and Dell even disabled the power-saving function (and with that also the turbo boost). To-date there seems to be NO bios fix for that!!!

So what if apple is having the same problems (with EFI controlling the turbo boost) and for that reason holding back the update (because they want to fix problems before selling, and don't want the customers to be the guinea pigs)!?

Here the link to the article: http://www.heise.de/ct/editorial/ (sorry that it's only available in german)

so anytime from now through summer.
Well said.:)

My customer solutions persons let me know they tracked down a new MacBook Pro to send me. He was not aware of any new sku's that were co
ing. He wouldn't be privy to that anyway. He chalked up the delay to human error in shipping. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I am just happy they replaced it at this point. Something I didn't realize, my incidental damage coverage from Best Buy would have been meaningless if I got a new model altogether. I guess I can just throw mine down the stairs when it is time to upgrade.

I went down to a local store and tried to walk out with an Arrandale MacBook Pro, only to find no excitement other than iPad stuff. I haven't been following the rumors here, so I assumed that this waiting game would be over by now. How disappointing. We've been waiting for Tuesday-next-week since well into last year!

Apple Silicon

My bet is that Apple wants to use their own chips and that they are not releasing the MBP until they get their new chip to work in it

i feel like apple is betting a lot on the ipad, so wouldn't it make sense that they release the new macbook only once the "frenzy" dies down a bit seeing how mbp and the ipad customer base overlap to a certain degeree

This is an April fool's joke right?

Apple has used Motorala (PPC), IBM (G5) and now Intel. That really leaves AMD, or the lowly Cyrix. Or, making their own chips. Do you know how much that would seriously cost? R&D. Fabrication plants. Chips would be at least 5 times the cost of current Intel chips, and probably poorer performing.

Apple would have to re write OSX, and ALL of its Applications. So would third party developers. It would be like the PowerPC to Intel transition. I highly doubt Apple want to do the same thing all over again. Plus, there would be hardware and software issues for early adopters, and that would ruin Apple's image even more. They have enough problems on their hands. Like the iMacs, and iPhone.

It would be a crime if they only update their best laptop once a year. The current specs are just too outdated for me to even think about buying one today.

If you refer to the new iPad-Chip: No way! It's just not powerful enough... It could go into the next iPhone but that's it...
And the costs to develop a new mbp-chip are just way too high!

I'm sure that Apple did extensive market research... So they know about the overlap... I don't see any overlap between mbp and iPad, because mbp is for real-work and the iPad is only for 'super-light' tasks

Right! The delay has to be because of some problems implenenting new technology (heat, battery-life, turbo boost, etc.). It will be released as soon as these problems are solved without waiting for the iPad, the new iPhone or any other product...

Gah. Why won't this rumor die? It's been brought up over and over, and there's is absolutely no chance of this happening. Apple is not going to go into competition with Intel in the cpu business. The only possible way that could happen would be for Apple to buy AMD. But Apple doesn't want that headache, and anyway any such deal would be way too far out to affect new MBPs.

If Jobs thinks Blu-Ray is a bag of hurt, he certainly isn't going to jump into competition with Intel.

+1, I am pretty sure APPLE would love to update their MBPs ASAP but sometimes engineering obstacles do exist in ANY company.

at least they will still release their MBPs before starcraft II(talk about vaporware) comes out.
