I'd dearly love to know what people here do with their Macs that makes them demand all these new processors immediately.

I can quite happily edit HD video from XDCAM EX for example on my 13" MPB. An upgrade to i5 or i7 isn't going to mean diddly squat difference in day to day use. The only thing that would give me a meaningful boost is more cores, but that isn't going to happen in such a small computer.

I think too many people here are obsessed with benchmark figures rather than real world operating.

You must work for the music/film industry!!! :D

A question, what should I do with my existing DVD, Blu-ray discs ?

How can i access the cloud (and use my computer) when I have no access to the net ( e.g at a no connected relative, on holiday, sitting on the beach, etc) ?

To me the "Could computing" idea is the daftest thing since trying to fly by flapping your arms. :p

YMMV.

There isn't a place on planet earth that doesn't have access to high-speed internet. You need to upgrade your technology. ;)

Solve this problem, I'm a University Student, I'm old enough to be GST registered and to old a credit card. Yet I'm not so old i'm dead. How old am I?

Not old enough to know the correct usage of the words "metaphorical" and "rhetorical"?

For people (i.e. Me) who only upgrade every 3-5 years, this new batch of Macbooks will be a HUGE upgrade.
Same here, my Late 2006 whitebook is great and I'm not going to buy a new one until the new MBP exterior changes comes. That's like 2-3 years of waiting

Hyper-V, multiple VMs, while compiling.

I reckon there must be something special in them if this update happens, just a shortage of chips I don't think would have held apple back this much maybe nvidia optimus will be on the update I hope so anyway ^_^

Yeah, since their releases are based around your plans.

A handful of these comments are ridiculous. Some of you people need to realize that this is 1) a rumor website and 2) it's your fault if you built your hopes off of a rumor.

I personally believe the 13" will be updated, but we'll see.

I'm very excited for this update. Bring on the 17.

Isn't he entitled to be disappointed?

All he is saying is he won't buy one IF the MBP don't suit him. Maybe it's my fault, but I fail to see why that particular comment is ridiculous.

Of course, I think it's better to wait and see, and then make a decision.

So return it now and have the self dicipline to wait a bit longer? You've already waited 8 months, a few more weeks at most isn't going to hurt.

Can someone please explain why the MBPs are much more expensive in the Australian store compared to the US. The Australian dollar is almost the same and when I do the conversions the Australian store is always a few hundred dollars more expensive :S It really annoys me.

Thanks for the reply :)

I think May be i am SUPER UNLUCKY!!!:(

It is because shipping them over here just costs so much money per unit.

Prices look high, again

I have found that when I speak with people at work about my Mac they always seem interested, but the high price puts them off. When I finally got one, I bout a MBP 15" refurb (1st C2D for that size) and got discount but still had to pay $1600.

I've never regretted it but totally buy in to the "price + effort" concept.

For non-Mac users, the additional cost plus the effort to learn a new way of doing things is a put off. Now you can buy a blazingly fast i-series Windows 7 laptop and Apple continues on the same path.

We Mac users are seen as a clique - a step above every day Windows users, kind of like BMW drivers. (I own one of those too.)

So I learned to stop apologizing and stop evangelizing for both items. I just enjoy.

A higher price for superior products. Fine. But they better continue to live up to expectations. Or a lot of people will vote with their dollars elsewhere.

Apart from the shipping costs, they also need to consider the fact that the Aussie dollar could depreciate at any time, and they need to make sure they'd still be making a good profit if the dollar fell to 80 or 70 US cents.

Let's explain it in the simplest way possible to all the 'old is good enough' brigade

I'd dearly love to know what people here do with their Macs that makes them demand all these new processors immediately.

I think too many people here are obsessed with benchmark figures rather than real world operating.

A new Mac is a significant investment that we hope will last us 3 years. People want their investment to at least manage to run the newer versions of software that come out during that 3 year window.

Buying a Mac with processors that are already 10 months old shortens our expectations of that investment.
Paying a premium for 'older' or 'slower' technology doesn't (Shouldn't!) make financial sense to anybody.

People always like to feel that they're getting good value.

Blah Blah but OSX is worth £XXX on its own etc. all gonna start now ;-)
