These are the posts I mentioned earlier in my worries about qualitiy. My four year old Samsung notebook is working fine (and I get 6 hours of workload with the extended battery, 10 hours if using both batteries), my 12 years old discounter notebook is working fine (except the battery which died some time ago), even my I-do-not-remember-how-old Olivetti notebook with Windows 3.1 is working if I switch it on for nostalgic reasons. Here I am continously reading about MBPs falling apart after only 2 or 3 years of use  Not giving much confidence in the quality. Or what are you doing to your notebooks to break them that fast!?

I think it all depends on how you use your notebook...
I saw some youTube videos with computers that were so dirty that they "scared me to death" (oh well, maybe just disgusted ;-))...
Anyway **** happens: even though I try to pay the more attention I can when using my notebook, sometimes hardware just fails...
A capacitor on the power supply circuit broke a few weeks after my warranty ended... Fortunately I was already planning to upgrade to a new machine!

Just my 2 cents!

Every week for the past four months this site has been posting a "MBP update imminent" article. Kinda funny... :p

I guess I'm the only one in the world who still wants to see the MAC PRO updated. With NAB coming, one would think MAC PRO, which is used by video professionals would certainly also get an update. Here's hoping.

I'm still hoping for a Mac Pro update as well! :) What you are saying is totally spot on, and we are heading into the second day of NAB. I think we might just see a Mac Pro update. People may say differently, but the Mac Pro is THE Apple computer for video production workstations. Honestly, Apple would be foolish to not take advantage of the timing right now...

Bump + Wednesday + Update.

New Hardware/Software at NAB2010

This points to Wednesday though? Needless to say, against Apple's tradition of releasing products on Tuesdays.

We should know in around 11 hours from now, if Apple (<3) will truly release the updated line on Tuesday or not.
Allowing me to get my first Macbook Pro. :-D

I'm also worried about Sandy Bridge released next year.
Don't want to spend a premium price on something that will get v. outdated in a couple of months (5-6).

Note: Sorry if this has already been posted, if it has, and been ignored...
> ...Could someone please tell me what disproves this? :)

P.S. "Thanks Hickman, for your v. useful posts. :)"

Updated twitter posts of Apple's site:

WE SHOULD KNOW WITHIN 4 HOURS FROM NOW! :-D

i'm just wondering.. Are we gonna see this happen soon??

Most people who buy macbook pros are...pros, they do stuff in the field (wherever that may be). Frankly, wear and tear on any brand is inevitable but those people who are toughest on their gear most likely have extended warranty, so the point is moot. The macbook is a tool that is supposed to be used, not kept in an airtight glass case and treated like a work of art (though you can always do that if it pleases you. :D

Well, that is the way I have used my notebooks most of the time (otherwise I wouldn't have needed a notebook, I always had more powerful desktops for work in my office and at home). Of course mobile use will not let the devices unimpressed. Scratches may happen and they will not look as nice as new after some time. But they should be working nevertheless (and in my case they are... where I have to admit that the Samsung with its (partial) magnesium case has almost no signs of its age) and I expected the MBPs to be even tougher. Of course I am handling my devices with care and do not throw them to the ground etc. Maybe that is the difference :p
Anyway, if I stay with my decision to try a MBP when the upgrade has arrived I will surely think about the extended warranty after all of the reports about broken MBPs...

It's 5:20 AM and I've been up all night working on a research paper for university. I'm taking a break to browse a bit.

Here's to hoping the machines come out today yall.

Since its so early in the morning, when I saw that I was like "Oh wow!!" and raced to apple.com...yeah...thank you tiredness! Great job on that anyways! :p

Thank you and sorry for that..:) Like everybody, I'm tired of waiting the new mbp.. so I decided to burn some time by editing this picture.. :p

You are definitely not alone. I'm hoping for Mac Pro updates and hope the rumor about a new 27" display is also true.

sweating it out!

i just received an insurance payout to my local mac store for a damaged 15" mbp - i'm due to pick up a top spec 13"mbp with upgraded memory etc.
i was holding out to see if this new generation of mbp is for real and applicable to 13".......
the suspense is sucking me into the genius of Apple marketing hype and mystery haha!
think my lust for a new laptop may overwhelm me today though!

I know the feeling! My PC laptop cant handle what I want to do now on my computer, plus its almost 6 years old, so just a little outdated.;) I've been waiting since like november when they first started talking about it!

Well, I'm up at almost 6am EST...I'm still slightly hopeful for today, but I think I'll sleep easy tonight even if I don't have one today! :)

the 2006/7 macbooks had really low-quality casing, and discoloration/overheating problems plagued the whole line. There was also the issue with the cracking around the edges of the keyboard. I still have my entry-macbook (white, 2006) running beautiful. I had to get a new top casing recently, but apple did it FREE OF CHARGE, even after 3 years out of warranty. I'm waiting to upgrade just because i feel it's time. My parents are going to use my (still good 06) macbook whilst i get either the 13" or 15" pro.

here's to hoping the new line comes out today! :D

I'm on the other side of Earth, Tuesday is almost over here......what time does the update happen usually? If it does.
