MacBook Pro Upgrade At Photokina?

Hey guys,

I must admit that I am a bit exhausted because of long anticipation of the MBP release. I've read over the awful rumors that our Macbook Pro's may not be released until November, and let me say that would be hell waiting that long, I think most of you guys can agree with me on that...

But if we think realistically about the idea of a November release...WHY in the world would Apple release C2D MBP's that late? Almost all of the competition has already relased their Core 2 Duo notebooks, and Apple would be sent into humiliation and would be criticized for releasing their C2D counterpart so late. I think that Apple has to put forth the new MBP's soon, or we're out of luck. And we all know here that our Macbook Pro's are going to receive the gift of C2D, so Photokina has to be the time.

Here's to this upcoming Monday, gentleman. We're going to have to have some kind of reunion after this ordeal is over, and maybe some counseling...

Could it be just they've signed up as devs and gotten the discount on hardware that goes with it?

Not aware of "shipping out "developer" MBP's as of right now". The new ones are released when they are released to market - at least that is my impression.

Macbooks Shipping in 7 days ?

I was looking at ordering another macbook today but notice shipping has changed from 24 hours to 7 days. Which would put them back till after the 25th. Do we detect Macbooks will also be upgraded ?

chris07 - your statement makes sense - but so did a hundred other guesses we have made on this topic - all of which were WRONG (mine included).

i'm still standing behind macosxrumors sources who are "very firm" on their claims regarding apple releasing the new c2d mbp's at photokina.

if the c2d mbp's are NOT released, i give you all permission to shun me.

but seriously, macosxrumors usually doesn't post BS if it's from their own sources. if they really think it's going to happen, they will post it.

:p

I sure hope so. If there is that small gazillionth of a chance that they will be updated too, then i'll get a macbook cause it's cheaper. But if they release the mbp first, then i'll fork out the extra money. going w/o a computer during school is so hard...

All I know is that's what I heard while wakling to class today. So I'm thinking that the MBP's will have it in them for sure. From what I heard they were talking about C2D's in an MBP they had coming. All I know for sure is that my MBP is coming on Monday, so fingers crossed!!! Although I'm starting to think more and more it's next week for the MBP's!!!

Ever stop to think hes ones of the guys here saying his shipping date has changed and hes sure its because of C2D lol. Its possible...
I've heard rumors of these "developer" computers before. I once talked to a guy who came in to where I work (camera shop) and i got talking about macs and using them for editing as he had a macbook pro out to burn a cd to print some photos. Anyway he was telling me that he was apple sponsored or something? anyone heard of that? And quite often got new hardware on the day of release, and a few times before to try them out. Maybe he was playing on my mac geekiness I don't know. Just my few cents worth.

I thought there was this post made by a MR member who said his GF got a 2.16Ghz model instead of a 2Ghz model that she ordered? I am staying hopeful, remember something like that happened prior to the Mini update too!

I was assuming it just referred ot the shipping of current model MBPs as bought with an ADC discount.

As you say, the new models will be available to everyone when they're available.

I've heard of the odd case in the past where people got a better model shipped than they ordered. I've figured it's an error or perhaps stock problems with the cheaper models -- esp when they're changing over...

So you are happy your NON-Returnable BTO Yonah 17" is shipping?

Please forgive me if I can't comprehend the source of your glee.

I suppose some sort of congratulations are in order. Way to go Taylor. Your impatience is impeccable. A wonderful example of restraint gone south. I think I'm gonna cry now. :(

I see everyone else here is speechless or fingerless. I'm starting to think your post made everyone leave. They had to go throw up in the bathroom. lol.

BTW Taylor is also my name. Man or woman?

I can finally recieve my MAC!!!!
I've saved up all summer for it and originally waited untill WWDC and for some reason started to visit THIS SITE. We're all hooked!!!!

64-bit would be nice, it would be able to handle more ram, ~%15 faster, maybe some new case designs but honestly this notebook is (besides the PC merom books) at the bleeding edge of technology. I teach and play music for a living. I think everyone here could say that this is too much computer for someone who just writes, records, and plays music. I'm just happy I'm less than a week away from becoming (as we say in NC) 'part-uh yalls family.'

The blog I kept while saving up. When school started I just quit posting... and started posting here :)

Oh btw Taylor, I'm a dude

5-7 Day MacBook Shipping Time Is Nothing New • Been That Way For Weeks

MacBooks have had that 5-7 days shipping time on the Store for weeks now. Nothing new there. Notice MacBook Pros still ship in 24 hours?

If they have them in stock, they will ship them. But I doubt that any more of the old models are being made. IF I were being optimistic, I would suggest that the supply of the MacBooks has always been constrained, so they are essentially out of stock, and they will not ship until the new model has been announced. I'm just not sure if I am optimistic about new MacBooks right now. Well, only 5 more days to find out!

CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!

I just got an email from Apple on my MB. It was suppose to ship on the 27th but it went out today from China instead!!!! WTF? I was so hoping for the upgrade. Usually when they update and upgrade you, they send an email rigth? Damn...

If they only allowed the new iMac to get up to 3 GB RAM I doubt very much that they're going to increase the RAM to 4 GB in a notebook computer. Possibly they might get up to 3 GB, but even that is "iffy."

I don't think they'll upgrade the MB yet, but I can see where they might upgrade the MBP to Core Duo 2 with the option of removeable hard drive and also 3 GB RAM. Guess we will find out in a few days!

the 5-7 days it due to SHORTAGES, not a revision

Something I'm curious about is the new Xserve which is supposed to be available in October. If there isn't a MBP announcement for Photokina, could it be combined with the announcement that the new Xserves are shipping?

Just a thought.

I am glad that I'm not in the situation of needing one "yesterday", and can physically wait a bit longer.

However, the suspense is killing me just to see what's coming. :D

It just seems to me the difference between the iMac and the Macbook Pro is the "Pro" part of Macbook Pro, so if they were to take the "pro" portion of that title seriously, the MBP would be allowed to incorporate up to 4GB of ram.

Not that the "pro" actually means it's a professional grade computer though, whatever that implies.

Hm..... The difference between the Mac Book and the Macbook Pro notebooks is the "pro" part. The iMac is in a different category, so that one would say that there the differences lie in the iMac vs the Mac Pro, both being desktops. The iMac is definitely a consumer machine, but actually, yes, is running on the same kind of hardware that is in the notebooks. I guess it remains to be seen what Apple will be doing with the MBP's....

for those of you who think the shipping dates are reflecting when a merom upgrade will be i wouldn't rely on that. Because how long have you guys been posting their shipping dates? ie: Macbooks. It hasn't come true yet has it. Macbook pros still say 24 hour shipping. You guys are just insenuating that the macbook will come out first with merom because they take longer to ship. Take this into consideration. How many of you see a macbook pro weekly. I see macbooks daily at school, still haven't seen a pro except for at the apple retail stores. Think twice about macbook shipping, It's called supply and demand. You who think that an upgrade for the macbook is coming soon because of shipping dates, please take an economics class to clarify your understanding on this issue. And we may all need psychological help by the time macbook pros and macbooks come out with merom. Everyday is the same, no merom. Maybe next tuesday, but that line never seems to come true for me.

The 3Gig of the iMac will be to leave a gig free for memory mapped I/O (graphics card, USB, hd controller, etc.).

I doubt they'll move the notebooks up to 2gig since it means routing more pins to memory, and that's a pain on a laptop -- and the number of people it matters to is tiny right now due to the cost of 2Gig DDR 667 SO-DIMMs.

I'd love it if they changed the GPU for, say, a Go 7700.

However, I think you're right, they won't change the motherboard now. They'll await Santa Rosa's launch, since that requires a redesign anyway.

the imac is in the desktop category with the mac pro. that means it is the entry level. The mac pro can have 16gb of ram. the imac has 3gb of ram. i really don't see why not on the 4gb on macbook pro. but we'll just have to see. I don't see a change in the motherboard either. but maybe that's whats taking so long

Need to stay away from MR - for my sanity

I don't post much, but watch often. Lately, it's been way too often. I literally haven't been able to get much done this week due to all of the speculation of the new MBP. I get up and use my PDA to check the site, use Forum Spy all day long, and then come home to watch before I go to bed. This can't be healthy.

Now, here's to being able to look back and laugh at this next week when we all are using our new MBP to watch a different thread.

I did get to order a new MP with 23" ACD today(for our business)! At least I know that will be coming next week if nothing else.

Hang in there everyone - I have a good feeling it's going to be here on Monday!!!

I can't stand the suspense!

APPLE -- puhLEEZ update the MBP this Monday? Pretty please? Sugar on top?

I probably don't need the horsepower of a MBP with C2D, considering that I'm only going to use my computer for multi-track audio recording and occasional video editing.

But still. It would be nice to get a bleeding-edge MBP to take advantage of future OS & software improvements.

<<< Sending psychic message to APPLE: >>>
You WANT to update the MBP this Monday.
You REALLY FEEL GOOD pressing the "go" button on the update.
You don't want to be UPSTAGED by a mid-ranged. plasticky DELL, do you APPLE? :)
