I have some graphic bug from time to time. Looks like that:
2588095738_817ea81412.jpg

Hey my old Commodore 64 used to look like that.... Except it was the full screen.

Another reason why I don't buy any displays from Apple, they make the worst in the industry.. Walmart sell better displays than Apple...

Thanks Apple for your high quality product....
Of all the responses to this I'm surprised no one pointed out that Apple doesnt sell the MacBook Pro display separate from the MacBook Pro. I say this since I'm only reading this as a MacBook Pro issue.

Hasn't ever happened to mine
I was wondering where this useless post would be. There's always at least one in threads like this.

I'm also using 15"MBP, no flicker problem because my display is stuck in blue screen, just blue screen and nothing at all. The problem started after I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger. Never had a problem with Tiger. I think both issues (blue screen and display bugs) are software related with Leopard.

I'm posting this with my iPhone as my MBP IS STILL in Blue Screen for the last 2 weeks and no solutions in sight.

So for the people who have this issue occur 3 times would consider it a lemon according to :apple:. Good thing I bought that :apple:Care.

The SR MBP 17" keeps going to sleep and pressing the keyboard does not wake it instantly, plus having this issue with the screen with horizontal bands, until I put the screen brightness all the way up, it resolves the issue.

:apple: seems to have issues with notebook screen in general.

this has little to do with Apple product being manufactured in China...

if you don't buy chinese goods, there would be little for choice left... and the remaining products won't be of higher quality anyway.

Obviously most parts in any Mac are manufactured in various countries, but didn't most Apple computers actually say on the back label at one time...

"Assembled in California" ?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I really DON'T want to have to dig out the Apple ][GS or the Mac LC! :D

Does anyone actually KNOW the very LAST MAC ASSEMBLED IN CALIFORNIA?

I'm only asking because I was cleaning my attic again and found a really old SOFTALK mag with all kinds of pics of Apple's then BRAND NEW high-tech Macintosh production facility in California for the very first Mac!

That means replacing the logic board or the display or the backlight will not fix it, really.

And it means that ALL of these models can have this issue. The fact that some people keep getting new machines and it happens again, and other people never see this implies strongly that some action taken by certain users and not by others triggers the problem. That's not to say that the user is to blame, but rather than Apple is to blame for not QC'ing their hardware with their software well enough. I thought the entire argument for paying more for a Mac was that the integrated hardware/software package keeps things like this from happening, and when they happen they can be quickly (as in days or weeks, not 6 months or a year) tracked down and nixed. Apple controls the entire user experience from start to finish. This is their problem and they need to fix it. They also need to fix Leopard so that it will work with InDesign and Acrobat Pro, but that's a separate issue. Same problem, though. iPhone=Destruction of Apple.

The iPod was just a warning in the night. A harmless little toy with a limited function and a limited (but high, none-the-less) profit potential.

the iPhone with its app store and potentially gigantic user base is the future of Apple, Inc, and it will be, in the end, the death of the Mac as the best computer system in history. I hope you liked 10.4 and the original Mac Pro, because that may be the last truly great OS/Hardware pairing from Apple that you can attach a keyboard to. It also happened to be one of the last machines to be released by Apple Computer, Inc.

Ironic. Sad.
I, for one, am afraid you're right. I had the same feeling when the iPhone first came out and they (seemingly, at least) pushed everything else to the back burner. I thought then that I was just being pessimistic. Maybe I still am, but sheesh. Thing is, they need the Mac to be the hub of this iGadget world they seem to be focused on, don't they? Or is it going to move to this cloud setup and it'll all be a big social networking thing through the Me Inc. (formerly known as Apple, Inc., formerly known as Apple Computer, Inc.) corporate servers? (All your Me are belonging to us...)

:( just when I got my macbook and finally switched from Windows and all my friends are switching you all pipe up about the death of Apple. I love my macbook and I love apple software

Well I see someone posted on this thread that Dell has issues too... Well, Dell is an issue in itself - but I will save the for another rant.

Who makes the LCD screen. I know the Dell that my friend just blew the LCD on, the LCD was made by samsung (I know I took the machine apart to *try* to get another one ordered).

Just happened to me, now that it's mentioned

First time it's happened to me, 5 minutes ago. Went away, though it makes me worry

As an individual who makes both sizable enterprise and personal purchases from Apple, the lack of quality from Apple is sadly becoming commonplace.

Between the heat issues on the portables, display issues across the board, software bugs, Leopard client being shipped way too early, Leopard Server being so buggy it was not commercial grade, general fit and finish issues, etc., the "opening the box" experience is becoming stressful because you care less about the "Apple Experience" and beautiful packaging and more about what you are going to find defective with your purchase.

I hope someone at Apple has the insight to look beyond the "defect numbers" to the real story. Quality is slipping, and the rate of fall is rapid.

Apple needs to understand that innovation without quality makes for a niche product in a niche company. Nothing more.

As an individual who loves the intersection of design, technology, and life, I am a huge champion of Apple. But they really need to get their collective act together on the quality front. It's getting pretty disgraceful.

I believe he meant spin it off into its own entity, like Palm does with hardware and software.

I think there's already some division between the Mac, iPod and iPhone, but not this severe...

Yes, that's what I meant. I think we would have a larger selection of computers that would be updated more frequently with more component choices. Matte screen iMac, for example ? A mini and ACD line that get updated more than every 5 years. A sub $1K tower. A tablet. Video cards that aren't two generation old selling for $400.

I bought a new 2.5ghz 15" MBP at the end of Feb when they came out and didn't have the vertical striping problems until about a month later. Now it happens maybe once every week or two, but unfortunately i'm unable to replicate it using the photobooth method mentioned on the Apple discussion forums.

It's not terrible, and it hopefully it won't get worse, but the fact that I paid $2500 for this machine makes me sick and resent Apple. I love my Cupertino products, but this problem definitely leaves a bad mark in my book for Apple.

I had this problem in my second replacement MBP. They replaced the whole screen/lid, which seemed to do the trick... But, they shortly replaced that laptop with the one I currently have. Six months, and no issues that I'm aware of.

I have to agree with the person who said the 15" MBP may be the most problematic Mac ever. Too bad it's been my first Mac experience. I'm hoping this MBP will last me a few more year, and by then they will hopefully have some of these issues resolved - or they'll have an entirely new model with different problems for me to deal with.

It's easy to search the internet and surmise that Apple has major problems with their laptops or any product in general, as generally it's those people affected that complain on forum message boards. Rarely do people start threads espousing my screen works great; my mac doesn't randomly shut down etc.

Whilst I'm in no way denying it doesn't suck for those affected- I think people need to see it in a balanced light. My first Mac arrived D.O.A and Apple sent an engineer out and it was replaced. Had no problems with it ever since in 8yrs

I'm glad to finally see this posted. I took this issue up with Apple about 3 weeks ago. I have called Apple and e-mailed them every time these vertical lines have popped up (5 times) to no avail. I have also cataloged the issue with photos as they have happened. In my case, every time it has happened I have been using battery power. No rhyme or reason as to what I was doing. One time surfing the web, another using Microsoft Word, etc.

The only other thing I have noticed is that the second time I had the vertical illumination issue I noticed the backlight in the top right of my keyboard near the eject button, delete button and the F12 volume key has either burnt out or is malfunctioning, leading me to think that the two might be related. It has never re-illuminated again. I too have the 2008 15" MBP Penryn release.

wow thats kinda sad...
i am going to buy a mbp 15" the next week...
and hoped i would get a bug free product...
everyone who said that apple shouldnt be blamed for it rather than the lcd panels constructor doesnt get the point.
sure the problem is caused by them still apple has to take responsibilty for it and what happened? nothing so u can blame apple... that they just doesnt care about this issue...
btw i never heard that sony would have led panels probs. so much to ur mega qualitiy panels.
if apple doesnt change his policy i paint a dark future for them... not in the next 5 years but maybe in 6-7 years apple maybe gone...
because apple tries to build less quality products for the same price. c iphone... c - remote controller
they try to save every penny they can and that is the last thing i wish for a premium brand. its kinda a reverted logic of a premium brand...
