I love my classic macbook pro too. That's not a question. But it is clear that you've had a bad experience with one product and are generalizing on the entire brand.

Regarding your example of putting them side by side - you are again generalizing with one bad product you've owned (likely an inspiron, which is a mid level consumer line) and comparing to apple's flagship prosumer macbook pro. That isn't even a fair comparison - not to mention that you're paying a huge premium over what you'd pay for a dell (even some of the flagship models).

You bring up some correct issues with the MBP. And yes, some of my criticisms relating to design were subjective - not nescessairily invalid, but definately important from my point of view. I guess one can debate whether heat dissipation or case flex is more important and that will differ depending on point of view. Also, just because a product is lower in price, doesen't mean it's OK that it has sub par QC or design. Even Apple's low end products won't have the issues that I experienced.

I guess In the end, I've decided that the slight premium (not huge) on price per spec. is worth the experience. And in all fairness to Dell, when you're under warranty, they do take care of you. I remember shipping my computer out on a tuesday and getting it back on a friday. The problem is, they only temporarily fixed the display. in the end, it was just quicker for me to learn to fix the display myself and do it every other week.

Okey guys I decided!
I will not get a Dell neither a MBP! I want to get a Core i7 Desktop in the end of november and buy and a MacBook so I can travel with this and make the power intesive parts at home. This way I will have windows and OSX so I can test applikations and websites on either systems.
I guess thats the best way to go, since I don't really want to carry a 4kg heavy thing with me.

costs too much...

I can get an 8-Core Mac Pro a lot cheaper than what Dell wants for their Quad Laptop. will Vista be able to take advantage of Nehalem? Nehalem should be a good companion for Apple's Snow Leopard with Grand Central. especially with Cinema 4d's number crunching processes to manage. if MacBook Pro's ever come out with a quad-nehalem processor I believe Apple would be in a very enviable position in the PC market.

Yes, you propably can. But unless I miss something, you don't want to put your keyboard, mouse, Mac Pro, and external screen in a bag and carry it around.

I might be mistaken, though, but if not you're comparing apples to oranges …

Does it matter if you are to purchase a LAPTOP in the near future? No, the conjecture is meaningless, unless one chooses to ignore the present offerings from your favourite company.
