Im getting a mac laptop end of story it will be a used pro due to the bigger screen, and slightly better HD and graphics card. But my main questions is because its becomming the end of the cycle should i wait for the new ones, or should i just wait for the new ones, get an old one before the new ones come out, or get an old one after the new ones come out... im looking for something around theses specs..

I would like too keep the price around 1800 if possible?

probaly the second becuase the only better thing really is the cards VRAM and i wont use past 256 becuase mine now with 128 can handle warcraft 3 (except in super graphic intence parts) and world of warcraft ( I just tried it once, stupidest game ever i dont know how someone can play that)

If you need it, say it's required to help you make money. Then buy it now, it make s alot more sense in the long run. However, if it's not urgent, perhaps waiting a couple more months for the updated version?
I think 256Mb of VRAM is plenty for most users, having the extra 512Mb of VRAM won't be much of a benefit, not on the 8600GTM.

MBPs area a concern because of students...
Huh?

Yea its not urgent and it is going to be the laptop that i go to college with, so by wait a while do you mean until they have another update or till the Exbo in January because i would really like it for school now, even thou it is not totaly needed, yet.

Hmm yea but i think they want them out for christmas at least. january will be way over their average update times, im thinking a case redesign soon with some minor hardware changes then a full hardware overhaul in january. Witch would make me want to wait but you could always just keep waiting and it most likely wont be that bad that i cant sell my soon to been one for a good chunk of cash...
Common apple your killing me here.

Myself, I would have put them out BEFORE the back-to-school rush and did iPods before the Xmas rush.
But hey, thats just me.

Most back to school people don't care about an update, but seeing ads out for brand new MBs would have helped their sales. But Apple was probably pulling the get rid of as much stock as possible and finish off the B2S rebate before updates scheme.

when the back to school promotion ends apple will release first new mbps an shortly after that new macbook. just my 2 cent

Wishful thinking? ...or why do you think the Pro will come first?
Quite often the MB is released first and then the Pro. Not always, but I have no idea what determines which comes first. Paper, scissors, rock?!?

My philosophy is, and always has been: buy it when you need it. There will always be something newer released in the future regardless of what you do, and it's not like a revision is going to make your computer suddenly self combust and become an expensive paperweight.

What do you think they are doing to the MBP? I really need a laptop but I want to wait to see the updates? How long is the return policy at bestbuy? If I bought one this week could I return it for all my money back?

well unless they cant get their act together they should come out like within a week of each other or on the same day

Yea, thats what keeps me going, lol. Wait, the old graphics card was having some problems at least in PC's or windows enviroments, is that what this is about? making sure the video card is all good. Common man spill the beans.

Why don't you read about it for a second: https://buyersguide.macrumors.com//#MacBook

Last time they both came out at the same time, the release before that (2007) had the MB out a MONTH (May) before the Pro (June).

Wrong. The release before that which was the update to Santa Rosa, the MBP was updated in June, and the MB had to wait until November.

Now that Montevina is out, there is no way that will go in the MB first.

Actually you're wrong & save your strawman argument. We're talking new revisions/updates not chipsets. Look again, the MB was updated twice that year, the MBP only once. The first MB update came out a month before the Pro.

You're most likely bang on about who will get the Montevina first, doesn't mean they won't update the MB in other ways. Who knows what this nVidia issue has done to update schedules for the MBP.

Apple inventory warning?

It seems strange that end of July(!) Apple urged resellers to place orders of at least 3 weeks worth of stock for certain notebooks as they anticipate dwindling supplies.

Now 6 weeks later we're told to expect a further 5 weeks delay for a total of 11 weeks (as seen from end of July). So what good does 3 weeks worth of stock do here?!? Apple should have advised them to get 6-8 weeks worth of stock.

Something must have gone awfully wrong between July and today to delay things so drastically.

I've just gone and bought a MBP 15" 2.4 GHZ, I couldn't wait and seeing as my college has Imac's and we've already started photo editing I treated myself to one. It's on the prepared to ship stage atm how long does it usually take them to ship it?:D

You should wait! The price of the notebook now is the same as the price when they launched it, while the price of hardware already dropped tremendously, the notebook's price the same. So what I'm saying is you'll be ripped off if you buy the notebook now, because the hardware only half worth of what you're paying...

Well if they do a minor speedbump in the coming weeks you can probably look to the MacWorld Expo in Jan for a redesign. I'd love nothing more than to be wrong...

Keep in mind iMacs are due for an upgarde as well and they're probably more of a Christmas concern than MBPs.

We've already had "guarantees" from posters saying July....August...
Ever hear of the saying "Fool me once, shame on you..."

iMacs more of a Christmas concern?? You're wrong.. Christmas is for iPod's etc.. MAYBE some MB or MBP, but there is not a growing iMac market around the holidays. And de iPods already have an upgrade, so the notebooks will be first in line right now.

Again, I think you're wrong. Apple is all about the performance/watt nowadays. The Montevina will be in the new MB and MBP's (what else?).. If they build in a faster model of the resent cpu, they'e performance/watt goes down (you do the math). So that wouldn't be much of an update. So I think we can be sure both MB and MBP will get Montiva, but both at different core speeds ofcourse. And they have always been protective about the distance between the MBP's en MB's, so they can't update the MB first. If they get the 2,0Ghz Montevina, they will be better/faster than the processor in MBP's now! So that's crazy.. I don't know why you think Apple will do something like that. It's more likely they introduce the MB and the MBP at the same time, or MBP first and MB later...

P.s. my University advices me to buy a MacBookPro (because MB can't run the heavy DNA simulating programms etc..) so I really hope they update the MBP soon!! I'm not paying 2k for a 2,6 Ghz with an old 8600GT card!
