For all the I wish I wish I doubt we will see a 15" Air. The MBA needs to be updated to how the MBP 13" is for the M2. I think the slightly larger battery, M2, 500 nit screen seem a good fit IMHO. When we get closer to the 2 year anniversary guess we are in for a nice treat. But anything along this is certainly not March 8. ;):D
I agree on the March 8th bit as it’s too early considering the MacPro has not made the transition yet and Apple still offers intel versions as an option. I suspect The rest of the line will be updated mid-year and keep Tim Cook’s promise and around the 24 month mark we will see an M2 MB/A.

You seem fairly certain. I'd like to know what your source is. ;D
Common sense, most rumours from analysts is just that. Apple does have to stay competitive with the industry relating to features and capabilities and if an entry level intel/AMD ultraportable can output to 2-3 displays and Apple is still sporting 1-2, their will be called out on it. Very few need the performance of the Pro/Max but may require multi-monitor support or MagSafe. Better FaceTime camera, the basics. Do entry level users require HDMI or SD Card slots; maybe. Is that the core purpose of the device considering there is AirPlay2, Dongles, UC, SC. It all depends if the form factor can accommodate it and if it’s a constant used item.

No.

So for iPad and iPad Air, its good and better, but you want MacBook Air and MacBook to be the opposite as Better and Good?!?

Ridiculous. This machine is named and positioned 100% correctly. It is better than the MacBook Air and several hundred dollars cheaper than the cheapest M1 Pro machine. Big market for professional users who don’t have demanding CPU needs.
iPad should be iPad or iPad Air and pro. There’s no reason for 3 models to exist. How can you call this pro if it’s not ummm… using the pro level processors? MacBook makes more sense.

Because with the new processors you can approach Pro level performance without using the beefed up Pro and Max level versions of the chips. This is what people found out when the original M1 MBP hit the market.

Apple’s product line up is pretty clear right now— iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pros. So the laptop lineup should be— MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pros. There’s no reason a thinner, lighter MBP can’t be squeezed into the product segmentation. In fact, they need it because the $2k cost of the base model 14” is prohibitively high for some…

I'm not so sure. There's a difference for sure between a lower priced access to Pro features, and a 'fully-loaded' model that the no-expense-spared crowd buy (sometimes from a company's pocket).
Agree with @contacos on the naming but still believe there is a good market for the simpler, lighter, more streamlined M1 MBP. I have that version and was tempted to upgrade to MBP14 but after doing the research, decided not to. Although I have a fairly robust photography workflow which requires batched rendering, the performance advantages of the M1 Pro and even Max chips. Meanwhile, battery life of the M1 Pro base model is several hours shorter, I don't really need all the extra i/o ports, and size/weight is as important to me for travel and remote work, as my 5G external monitor is when I'm at home. So yeah I'm pretty happy with my current setup. But i would be very interested in an M2 MBP13, especially if they get rid of the Touch Bar. Place one of those TB3 ports on the right side, and I'll be first in line for an upgrade. Or just slide sideways to that new M2 MBA...

To that argument just call everything pro..?‍♂️
Well, no— things sell well when they’re called “Air,” too ? This is why — although it makes way more sense to rebrand the upcoming, multicolored Airs as simply “MacBooks,” — Apple will probably call them Airs (but I don’t think they should).

Why would you buy this pro instead of the air? Same chips, heavier weight, still lacking extra ports (type C only) it has no reason to exist, only difference would be a fan

You answered your own question— heavier weight = better battery (in M1’s case) and fan, which maintains and elevates performance in hotter environments. Any other questions? ?

It's bizarre that someone as clever as you think you are, believes that Apple intend to call a product "Pro", just because they read it in a rumour.

Is your contention here that obviously Apple won’t call it the Pro (despite having done so for five years), or why the personal attack?
