Is it going to have magsafe or an SD card slot? If it's just the current model, except with an M2 and no touchbar then...uh...wow.

Don’t bet on it. The design similarity of a 13” Air and 13” MBP could see that Air using a fan for cooling a M2, and there ceases to be a 13” MBP model. Still this rumor is a bad one.
What’s the point of a 13” Pro model when the following is present 13”,14” and 16”. The present 14” Pro fits in approximately the same case dimensions as the old 13” Pro.

It logical to have a MB 13” and 15” and a MBP 14” and 16”. Since there is a wide enough gap between screen sizes. At present there is only one screen size MBA. Previously there was the 11” and 13”.

I think they should return to the origins and this model should be called "Macbook", "Macbook" for all the 13" versions (including Air) and "Macbook Pro" for 14" and 16"
Or how about abandoning the whole “pro laptop” one piece form factor, and moving to a two piece form factor, separating the computer from the screen and keyboard? I think Universal Control means a thin and silent laptop can be the front end for a super powerful chip up to 10 meters away.

No different than the (not) NEW iPhone SE 2022 -- just add a faster chip and call it new.

That’s obviously what I meant in talking about MacBook Pros, but good job
You have a very Strange way of thinking something is obvious, when you dont even mention it. So good job in assuming people are mind readers. Also, you can get MBPs with M1s, so good job not knowing that.

Really? You can get get an M1 that is over a year old?

Clearly I was talking about the M1’s that they have issues with getting out to people (M1 Pro and Max). You seem triggered over this but I guess congrats on making me be super clear on it.

For all the I wish I wish I doubt we will see a 15" Air. The MBA needs to be updated to how the MBP 13" is for the M2. I think the slightly larger battery, M2, 500 nit screen seem a good fit IMHO. When we get closer to the 2 year anniversary guess we are in for a nice treat. But anything along this is certainly not March 8. ;):D

I believe the MacBook Pro entry model with the M2 processor should be released in the next month. The development cycle of the M2 processor build would take about 18 months, since it take about this time span for design, development and production for a new processor. This writer has no real design, development or production experience so he expects annual updates. I also believe that the high-end MacBook Pros will be released at the spring event in 2023 with the M2 Pro and Max chips (about an 18 month design/development/production span). One final observation, most people do not update their Macs and iPads as often, so spacing them out makes sense.

This year will Apple will focus on the final Mac conversions; the 27" iMac Pro and the high-end mac mini which should come with the M1 Pro or M1 Max chips (there maybe a speed bump). Apple will update to the iPhone 14's & Apple watch in the fall. Throughout the year, Apple will update its lower end line with M2 chips (consisting of Macs and iPads).

Since the new chips require more time to develop; they require smaller wire widths (5nm to 4nm to 3nm) and typically consisting of more transistors, better power efficiency and/or increased speed. Since the width of the wires are constantly getting smaller, it requires a different factory, so also takes time.

Most of Apples efforts are focused on the iPhone (and Apple watch) updates because they rely on regular iphone/watch sales. They have long-term iphone/watch plans that consist of delta updates mostly. As a result, iPhone and watches must keep annual updates to bolster sales. Customer are more likely to trade there phones in annually or bi-annually to purchase the latest technology (not so with Macs and iPads, replacement cycle more like 3-5 years).

Maybe Apple is starting to think about offering new older Mac-models at a reduced price?
What if there will be an M2 MacBook Air / entry level Pro, and reduce the price of the M1 versions by about 25%?

If M2 is same speed increase relatve to M1 as A15 is relatve A14, the M1 Pro and Max will be the far superior Macs anyway.

At least for entry MacBook Air? Help Edu sales?
Apple Spring even has been Edu focused in the past.

Kinda like keeping older models iPhones and Apple Watches for sale as cheaper entry level products.

It should be MacBook (13” and 15”) and MacBook Pro (14” and 16”). Scrap the MacBook Air name and entry Pro model, with the redesign away from the wedge form it may mean that its time Apple is looking to bring back the MacBook name.
They should bring back the MacBook 12” wedge form factor as the new Air but make it a 13”. With the M2, I’m sure this is totally doable with great battery life. I still own mine and it’s fantastic— the lightest, thinnest laptop Apple’s ever made. Let everything else be MacBook or MacBook Pro.

This model will target those looking for a laptop:

1) that has a 'pro' look space grey finish and black bezels
2) that has decent M2 speed (no for need M1 Pro or Max power)
3) that doesn't have pastel coloured aluminum finish and white bezels of the rumoured M2 MacBook Air
4) that is priced similarly to the current 13" MBP

Agree.
While an obvious marketing term to indicate ‘more capable,’ I think ‘pro’ is intended to speak more to the components of the device and less to the human using said device (though it seems common that many assume the label speaks to the person). As is proven on a daily basis, having a ‘pro’ tool does not make one a ‘pro.’
And there is one professional photography studio I go to that still uses an old PowerPC Mac with Adobe Creative Suite 2 on it. Any Mac - even the Macbook Air, will be able to fulfil their needs.

Im not sure why people are so surprised. M1 was announced roughly 2 years ago. I got the M1 Mac mini in 2020. So the processor is going on two years old now if the product ships in the fall this year. Even if it ships next month, the M1 is still getting to that "old" point.

People were worried they couldn't keep up with Intel releasing new updates. Now people are worried they are going to fast?!
